Magnetic dipole moment of theΔ+(1232)from theγp→γπ0preaction

2001

The $\ensuremath{\gamma}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{p}\ensuremath{\gamma}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}p$ reaction in the $\ensuremath{\Delta}(1232)$-resonance region is investigated as a method to access the ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{+}(1232)$ magnetic dipole moment. The calculations are performed within the context of an effective Lagrangian model containing both the $\ensuremath{\Delta}$-resonant mechanism and a background of nonresonant contributions to the $\ensuremath{\gamma}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{p}\ensuremath{\gamma}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}p$ reaction. Results are shown both for existing and forthcoming $\ensuremath{\gamma}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{p}\ensuremath{\…

Golden channel at a neutrino factory revisited: Improved sensitivities from a magnetized iron neutrino detector

2012

This paper describes the performance and sensitivity to neutrino mixing parameters of a Magnetised Iron Neutrino Detector at a Neutrino Factory with a neutrino beam created from the decay of 10 GeV muons. Specifically, it is concerned with the ability of such a detector to detect muons of the opposite sign to those stored (wrong-sign muons) while suppressing contamination of the signal from the interactions of other neutrino species in the beam. A new, more realistic simulation and analysis, which improves the efficiency of this detector at low energies, has been developed using the GENIE neutrino event generator and the GEANT4 simulation toolkit. Low-energy neutrino events down to 1 GeV we…

LAB observables for the muon polarization in K+->pi(+)mu(+)mu(-)

1999

We analyse the muon longitudinal polarization asymmetry \Delta_long in the decay K^+ --> \pi^+ \mu^+ mu^-. It is stressed that, since the muon helicities are not Lorentz-invariant quantities, the magnitude of \Delta_long depends in general on the reference frame. We consider the muon helicities in the LAB system, and study the sensitivity of the longitudinal polarization asymmetry to the flavour-mixing parameters in the Standard Model for stopped and in-flight decaying K^+. A similar analysis is carried out for the decay K_L --> \mu^+ \mu^-. We find that in both cases the asymmetry is diluted when increasing the energy of the decaying kaons.

Neutrino electron scattering and left-right symmetry: future tests

1998

Low-energy high-resolution neutrino-electron scattering experiments may play an important role in testing the gauge structure of the electroweak interaction. We propose the use of radioactive neutrino sources (e.g. $^{51}$Cr) in underground experiments such as BOREXINO and HELLAZ as a probe of the weak neutral current structure. As an illustration, we display the sensitivity of these detectors in testing the possible existence of right-handed weak neutral currents.

EPS09 - a New Generation of NLO and LO Nuclear Parton Distribution Functions

2009

We present a next-to-leading order (NLO) global DGLAP analysis of nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) and their uncertainties. Carrying out an NLO nPDF analysis for the first time with three different types of experimental input -- deep inelastic $\ell$+A scattering, Drell-Yan dilepton production in p+$A$ collisions, and inclusive pion production in d+Au and p+p collisions at RHIC -- we find that these data can well be described in a conventional collinear factorization framework. Although the pion production has not been traditionally included in the global analyses, we find that the shape of the nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm dAu}$ of the pion $p_T$-spectrum at midrapidity …

Neutral current coherent pion production

2007

We investigate the neutrino induced coherent pion production reaction at low and intermediate energies. The model includes pion, nucleon and Delta(1232) resonance as the relevant hadronic degrees of freedom. Nuclear medium effects on the production mechanisms and pion distortion are taken into account. We obtain that the dominance of the Delta excitation holds due to large cancellations among the background contributions. We consider two sets of vector and axial-vector N-Delta transition form-factors, evidencing the strong sensitivity of the results to the axial coupling C5A(0). The differences between neutrino and antineutrino cross sections, emerging from interference terms, are also disc…

On the measurement of leptonic CP violation

2001

We show that the simultaneous determination of the leptonic CP-odd phase $\delta$ and the angle $\theta_{13}$ from the subleading transitions $\nu_e\to\nu_\mu$ and ${\bar\nu}_e\to{\bar\nu}_\mu$ results generically, at fixed neutrino energy and baseline, in two degenerate solutions. In light of this, we refine a previous analysis of the sensitivity to leptonic CP violation at a neutrino factory, in the LMA-MSW scenario, by exploring the full range of $\delta$ and $\theta_{13}$. Furthermore, we take into account the expected uncertainties on the solar and atmospheric oscillation parameters and in the average Earth matter density along the neutrino path. An intermediate baseline of O(3000) km …

Updated Results from the $\nu_{\tau}$ Appearance Search in NOMAD

2000

Updated results from the appearance searches for $\numunutau$ and $\nuenutau$ oscillations in the full NOMAD data sample are reported. The increased data and the use of more refined kinematic schemes for the $\nutau$ CC selection allow a significant improvement of the overall sensitivity. The ``blind analysis" of both the deep-inelastic and the low multiplicity samples yields no evidence for an oscillation signal. In the two-family oscillation scenario, this sets a 90\% C.L. region in the $\sin^22\theta_{\mu\tau} - \Delta m^2$ plane which includes $\sin^22\theta_{\mu\tau}\ <\ 4.4\times10^{-4}$ at large $\Delta m^2$ and $\Delta m^2 < 0.8$ eV$^2$/$c^4$ at $\sin^22\theta_{\mu \tau}=1$. The cor…

Confusing non-standard neutrino interactions with oscillations at a neutrino factory

2002

Most neutrino mass theories contain non-standard interactions (NSI) of neutrinos which can be either non-universal (NU) or flavor-changing (FC). We study the impact of such interactions on the determination of neutrino mixing parameters at a neutrino factory using the so-called ``golden channels'' \pnu{e}\to\pnu{\mu} for the measurement of \theta_{13}. We show that a certain combination of FC interactions in neutrino source and earth matter can give exactly the same signal as oscillations arising due to \theta_{13}. This implies that information about \theta_{13} can only be obtained if bounds on NSI are available. Taking into account the existing bounds on FC interactions, this leads to a …
