Prevention of sports injuries : systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

2013

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on tehdä yhteenveto urheiluvammojen ennaltaehkäisyyn tähtäävistä interventioista. Systemaattinen kirjallisuushaku tehtiin käyttämällä seuraavia hakusanoja: sports injuri/es, athletic injuri/es, prevention, preventive, randomized, controlled trial ja randomized controlled trial. Developing the "Choosing Health" Digital Weight Loss and Maintenance Intervention: Intervention Mapping Study

2022

Background Digital health promotion programs tailored to the individual are a potential cost-effective and scalable solution to enable self-management and provide support to people with excess body weight. However, solutions that are widely accessible, personalized, and theory- and evidence-based are still limited. Objective This study aimed to develop a digital behavior change program, Choosing Health, that could identify modifiable predictors of weight loss and maintenance for each individual and use these to provide tailored support. Methods We applied an Intervention Mapping protocol to design the program. This systematic approach to develop theory- and evidence-based health promotion …

Exploiting the Redox Activity of MIL-100(Fe) Carrier Enables Prolonged Carvacrol Antimicrobial Activity

2022

The design of efficient food contact materials that maintain optimal levels of food safety is of paramount relevance to reduce the increasing number of foodborne illnesses. In this work, we develop a smart composite metal-organic framework (MOF)-based material that fosters a unique prolonged antibacterial activity. The composite is obtained by entrapping a natural food preserving molecule, carvacrol, into a mesoporous MIL-100(Fe) material following a direct and biocompatible impregnation method, and obtaining particularly high payloads. By exploiting the intrinsic redox nature of the MIL-100(Fe) material, it is possible to achieve a prolonged activity against Escherichia coli and Listeria i…

The Advances and Challenges of Liposome-Assisted Drug Release in the Presence of Serum Albumin Molecules: The Influence of Surrounding pH

2022

The aim of this study is to prepare a liposomal delivery system for 5-methyl-12 (H)-quino[3,4-b]-1,4-benzothiazine chloride (5-MBT) and study the in vitro release characteristics. The release of 5-MBT from a liposomal complex with human serum albumin (HSA) [LDPPC/5-MBT]:HSA was examined using the spectrophotometric method and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Electronic paramagnetic resonance was used to assess the influence of the pH of the environment on the conformation of phospholipids, the latter determining the degree of release of the encapsulated compound. The applied mathematical models made it possible to determine the necessary analytical parameters to facilitate the proce…

A prospective observational study on oral administration of Ellagic Acid and Annona Muricata in patients affected by non-muscle invasive bladder canc…

2021

Introduction: BCG and MMC shortage and Covid-19 pandemic, more recently, limit accessibility to maintenance regimen in intravesical prophylaxis against recurrence of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Ellagic acid (EA) and Annona muricata (AM) exert antitumor activity against different human tumours. An observational prospective study on the prophylactic effect of oral administration of EA+AM in patients avoiding maintenance regimen is presented. Materials and methods: Patients affected by NMIBC and not undergoing maintenance after a 6-week course of intravesical prophylaxis with MMC or BCG were entered. Tis and very high-risk tumours were excluded. After informed consent, the pati…

Development of new strategies to assess the safety of controlled ovarian stimulation for fertility preservation in breast cancer patients

2023

The EasyTube during general anesthesia for minor surgery

2017

BACKGROUND The EasyTube (EzT) is a supraglottic airway device that is used for emergency airway situations. Ventilation during general anesthesia should also be feasible, but literature on the EzT is scarce. We evaluated the EzT in comparison with the endotracheal tube (ETT) in its use during general anesthesia in a comparative study. METHODS A total of 400 patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I to II scheduled for minor surgery in 4 centers were randomized for ventilation via the ETT or EzT. RESULTS In all patients, the EzT and the ETT could be inserted within 3 attempts. In all EzT patients, the inspiratory and expiratory minute volumes (6.64 ± 0.71 an…

Rapid onset opioids for breakthrough pain: Titrating or not titrating, this is the question!

2011

Abstract Breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) has been defined as a transitory increase in pain intensity that occurs either spontaneously, or in relation to a specific predictable or unpredictable trigger, despite relatively stable and adequately controlled background pain. Traditional dosing recommendations for BTcP have suggested that the effective dose of oral opioids should be a percentage of a patient’s total daily opioid dose. In the last years a number of new formulations that deliver fentanyl directly through mucous membranes have been developed in an effort to provide a more rapid onset of effect (rapid onset opioids, ROOs). Recent recommendations suggest that the dose of ROOs for BTcP…

Oral Dabigatran Etexilate Versus Enoxaparin for Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism After Total Hip or Knee Arthroplasty: A Pooled Analysis of Four …

2011

Abstract Abstract 2312 Introduction: Thromboprophylaxis after major orthopaedic surgery reduces the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Four randomized, double-blind, non-inferiority trials compared oral dabigatran etexilate doses of 220 mg or 150 mg once daily (qd) with subcutaneous enoxaparin for the primary prevention of VTE in patients undergoing elective total hip or knee arthroplasty. In the hip arthroplasty trials (RE-NOVATE® and RE-NOVATE® II) the treatment duration was 28–35 days; in the knee arthroplasty trials it was 6–10 days (RE-MODEL™) and 12–15 days (RE-MOBILIZE®). Three of the trials used a comparator enoxaparin regimen of 40 mg qd started the evening before surgery, while…
