Ultra-low contrast coronary angiography and zero-contrast percutaneous coronary intervention for prevention of contrast-induced nephropathy: step-by-…
2019
Contrast-induced nephropathy is a serious complication after intravascular administration of iodinated contrast media and is associated with numerous adverse outcomes. Its prevalence is particularly high in patients with multiple comorbidities who undergo coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Currently, the only effective method to prevent contrast-induced kidney injury is adequate hydration and a reduction of contrast volume during the intervention. Recently, new approaches aiming to minimize contrast usage have been proposed, i.e., ultra-low contrast angiography and zero-contrast PCI. However, neither tutorials for these techniques nor reviews of their outcome…
Effects of Minimalist Footwear and Foot Strike Patterns on Plantar Pressure during a Prolonged Running
2022
The use of minimalist shoes (MS) in running involves changes in running mechanics compared to conventional shoes (CS), but there is still little research analysing the effects of this footwear on plantar pressure, which could help to understand some risk injury factors. Moreover, there are no studies examining the effects of a prolonged running and foot strike patterns on baropodometric variables in MS. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyse the changes produced using MS on plantar pressure during a prolonged running, as well as its interaction with the time and foot strike pattern. Twenty-one experienced minimalist runners (age 38 ± 10 years, MS running experience 2 ± 1 years) ran…
Produzione musicale e pratiche sonore nelle chiese palermitane fra Rinascimento e Barocco
2010
How Music can dominate Space. The Patronage of Music by Religious Orders in 16th- and 17th-century Palermo.
2010
According to the models of the so-called "Urban Musicology", the aim of this paper is to summarize the musical activity promoted by monastic churches between the Renaissance and the Baroque – in particular by the Jesuits – and, by examining data, to reconstruct the musical employees who probably existed in Palermo institutions, financial support for liturgical music and the multiple connections between music, power and social environment.
Musica e devozione nella «città felicissima». Ordini religiosi e pratiche sonore a Palermo tra Cinque e Seicento
2022
Based on a wealth of archival documentation, this work reconstructs the musical landscape of Palermo in the 16th and 17th centuries starting from the role played by religious orders. The t…
Nullité absolue des traités et inapplication de la Convention de Vienne
2019
This contribution investigates the reasons for the inapplication of the rules on the absolute nullity of treaties contained in the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties. The argument put forward is that the codification of absolute nullity in treaty law was both a necessary and fanciful choice at the time. Necessary because there was already a jurisprudential practice that had declared some treaties concluded in violation of rules that would later be qualified as "ius cogens" null and void. And also because, after the end of the Second World War, the idea spread that international law should privilege a "strong" legality over the effectiveness of legal situations. It was unrealistic…
Classroom-based physical activity and teachers’ instructions on students’ movement in conventional classrooms and open learning spaces
2022
AbstractAs a result of educational reforms in many countries, including Finland, new or renovated comprehensive schools have increasingly begun to incorporate open and flexible designs and principles. Multipurpose and adaptable open learning spaces can provide children with amplified opportunities to be physically active during general education. Classroom-based physical activity has been associated with better academic-related outcomes and students’ on-task behaviour, while overall physical activity has been associated with better health. In the present study, we investigated the effects of classroom type, gender and grade level on classroom-based physical activity, and the associations be…
Impact of Platelet Reactivity in ACS Patients on Clinical Outcomes with Triple Antithrombotic Therapy
2021
Optimal antithrombotic therapy after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients on oral anticoagulants (OAC) remains a clinical conundrum. In fact, combining an OAC with dual antiplatelet therapy (triple antithrombotic therapy, TAT) increases the risk of bleeding. Clopidogrel is the only thienopyridine recommended in TAT patients. Whether its response plays a relevant role in this setting remains uncertain. We aimed to evaluate the level of platelet reactivity inhibition (PRI) achieved by oral TAT in Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) patients undergoing PCI and its relationship with outcomes. We performed a multicenter prospective observational study and assessed PRI by vasodilator-st…
Physico-chemical characterisation of a non-conventional food protein source from earthworms and sensory impact in arepas
2009
International audience; This study aimed to characterise a non-conventional protein source: a powder made from earthworms, and to evaluate its potential use as human food. The way it was prepared led to low solubility and wide particle size distribution. Sensory analysis was used to assess the acceptability and the organoleptic properties of maize-based pan-cakes fortified with this novel protein powder. Satisfying products were obtained with a substitution level of 5.5% (w/w) earthworm powder in pan-cakes. GC-MS allowed the identification of more than seventy volatile compounds that may be responsible for the off-odour of the powder. The most abundant chemical groups found in the volatile …
The Case Study in Family Business : An Analysis of Current Research Practices and Recommendations
2016
In this study, we identified and analyzed 75 articles in the family business (FB) literature between 2000 and 2014 as to the case study design they adopted. We found that the positivistic case study approach is the FB disciplinary convention. The two alternative approaches of critical realism and interpretivism are used to a significantly lesser extent. We anticipate that in the future the positivistic approach will continue to be used widely. The other two approaches can be employed to a higher extent since their use is likely to contribute to a scientific pluralism in FB case study research.
