The sensitivity of buckwheat plants to pathogens under conditions of mixed viral and mycoplasmal infection
2016
It was investigated, that mixed infection of buckwheat distributed in various ecological regions of Ukraine, the pathogens that belong to different taxonomic groups have different and peculiar morphological and structural properties. First was shown that buckwheat is affected by buckwheat burn virus (BBV) together with Mycoplasma. Mixed infection leads to proliferation of sepals, clarification of the flowers petals, reduction and greening of petals, hypoplasia or hypodevelopment of stamens and pistils: all of this can lead to partial or complete sterility.

A continuum based fem model for friction stir welding—model development
2006
Although friction stir welding (FSW) has been successfully used to join materials that are difficult-to-weld or unweldeable by fusion welding methods, it is still in its early development stage and, therefore, a scientific knowledge based predictive model is of significant help for thorough understanding of FSW process. In this paper, a continuum based FEM model for friction stir welding process is proposed, that is 3D Lagrangian implicit, coupled, rigid-viscoplastic. This model is calibrated by comparing with experimental results of force and temperature distribution, then is used to investigate the distribution of temperature and strain in heat affect zone and the weld nugget. The model c…
Design of the friction stir welding tool using the continuum based FEM model
2006
In friction stir welding (FSW), the welding tool geometry plays a fundamental role in obtaining desirable microstructures in the weld and the heat-affected zones, and consequently improving strength and fatigue resistance of the joint. In this paper, a FSW process with varying pin geometries (cylindrical and conical) and advancing speeds is numerically modeled, and a thermo-mechanically coupled, rigid-viscoplastic, fully 3D FEM analysis able to predict the process variables as well as the material flow pattern and the grain size in the welded joints is performed. The obtained results allow finding optimal tool geometry and advancing speed for improving nugget integrity of aluminum alloys.
Impact of infectious burden on extent and long-term prognosis of atherosclerosis.
2002
Background — Recent findings suggest a causative role of infections in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. In hypothesizing an association between infectious agents and the development of atherosclerosis, we would expect a correlation to the extent of atherosclerosis. Moreover, this effect could be multiplied by the number of pathogens to which an individual had been exposed. Methods and Results — In 572 patients, IgG or IgA antibodies to herpes simplex virus 1 and 2, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, Hemophilus influenzae , Chlamydia pneumoniae , Mycoplasma pneumoniae , and Helicobacter pylori were measured. The extent of atherosclerosis was determined by coronary angiography, carotid…
Expression Profile of Stress Proteins, Intermediate Filaments, and Adhesion Molecules in Experimentally Denervated and Reinnervated Rat Facial Muscle
1997
The immunohistochemical profiles of ubiquitin, heat shock protein 70, alpha-B-crystallin, desmin, vimentin, neural cell adhesion molecule (N-CAM), and tenascin in rat facial muscle were studied after permanent denervation by transection of the facial plexus on one side and compared with findings after immediate reinnervation by hypoglossal-facial nerve anastomosis subsequent to transection on the contralateral side. Levator labii muscle samples were collected sequentially at 2, 6, 7, 10, 20, and 24 weeks after surgery. Normal levator labii muscle fibers showed physiological expression of desmin and alpha-B-crystallin. Denervated rat facial muscle displayed distinct up-regulation of ubiquiti…
Impaired Binding to Junctophilin-2 and Nanostructural Alteration in CPVT Mutation
2021
Rationale: Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) is a rare disease, manifested by syncope or sudden death in children or young adults under stress conditions. Mutations in the Ca 2+ release channel/RyR2 (type 2 ryanodine receptor) gene account for about 60% of the identified mutations. Recently, we found and described a mutation in RyR2 N-terminal domain, RyR2 R420Q . Objective: To determine the arrhythmogenic mechanisms of this mutation. Methods and Results: Ventricular tachycardias under stress conditions were observed in both patients with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia and knock-in mice. During action potential recording (by patch-clamp in …

Renal malakoplakia as a pseudotumoral lesion in a renal transplant patient: A case report
2007
Malakoplakia is a rare chronic inflammatory disease associated with gram-negative bacterial infections frequently caused by Escherichia coli. Malakoplakia usually affects the lower urinary tract (bladder) but there are cases described in the kidney as well as in the respiratory and digestive organs. We report on a case with renal parenchymal malakoplakia in a renal transplant patient and describe the pathological lesions of malakoplakia: histiocytic proliferation with scarce inflammatory infiltrate, histiocytes with acidophilic cytoplasm and the presence of characteristic Michaelis-Gutmann bodies. The authors in this study review the updated reports related to the entity in this uncommon lo…
