Sialodochoplasty in the treatment of salivary-duct stricture in chronic sialoadenitis: technique and results

PURPOSE: This study was undertaken to investigate peroral balloon angioplasty of salivary-duct strictures (sialodochoplasty) in chronic sialadenitis, analysing the technique, results and limitations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nine patients underwent sialodochoplasty: seven for Stensen''s-duct strictures and two for Wharton''s-duct strictures. One patient had a double stricture of Stensen''s duct and another a salivary stone associated with a Wharton''s-duct stricture. All patients were subjected to preliminary sialography to evaluate stricture site, length and grade. Effects of Constant and Doublet Frequency Electrical Stimulation Patterns on Force Production of Knee Extensor Muscles

International audience; This study compared knee extensors' neuromuscular fatigue in response to two 30-minute stimulation patterns: constant frequency train (CFT) and doublet frequency train (DFT). Fifteen men underwent two separate sessions corresponding to each pattern. Measurements included torque evoked by each contraction and maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) measured before and immediately after the stimulation sessions. In addition, activation level and torque evoked during doublets (Pd) and tetanic contractions at 80-Hz (P80) and 20-Hz (P20) were determined in six subjects. Abstract Background & Aims: Proximal colon from dystrophic mice develops spontaneous tone increment, but the mechanisms involved in its development have not been investigated. This study examined whether alterations in the properties of cell membrane calcium channels and/or sarcoplasmic reticular (SR) Ca 2+ -adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) contribute to tone development. Chest surgery can greatly facilitate the experience of living in a gender role. For transfeminine chest surgery, most surgeons recommend a 12-month period of feminizing hormone therapy prior to breast augmentation. For those who already have some breast volume due to hormone treatment, lipofilling can be a good option. Transmasculine chest surgery includes mastectomy and creation of a male chest. Preoperative parameters to be evaluated include breast volume, degree of excess skin, nipple-areola complex size and position, and skin elasticity. The algorithm the authors developed and modified can help choose from 5 techniques, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing male chest.

The aims of this study were to describe the variability in protein binding of teicoplanin in critically ill patients as well as the number of patients achieving therapeutic target concentrations. This report is part of the multinational pharmacokinetic DALI Study. Patients were sampled on a single day, with blood samples taken both at the midpoint and the end of the dosing interval. Total and unbound teicoplanin concentrations were assayed using validated chromatographic methods. The lower therapeutic range of teicoplanin was defined as total trough concentrations from 10 to 20 mg/L and the higher range as 10-30 mg/L. Elastic-Viscoplastic Solids Subjected to Thermal and Loading Cycles

— A class of elastic-viscoplastic materials with dual internal variables, thermodynamic potential and temperature-dependent plastic and creep data is considered. For solids (or structures) of such materials, subjected to cyclic loads and temperature variations, the existence of a steady-state response is ascertained and its periodicity characteristics established. Particular steady-state responses, like, elastic and inelastic shakedown, are addressed. By means of a sensitivity analysis of the steady cycle with respect to the load parameter changes, a number of basic features of inelastic shakedown (the viscoplastic counterpart of plastic shakedown) are also addressed.
