The effect of introduction of montmorillonite clay (MMT) on the elastic properties of polycarbonate (PC) composition with acrylonitrile-butadiene sty…

2015

Abstract Polycarbonate (PC)/acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene terpolymer (ABS)/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites have been obtained by melt compounding in a twin-screw extruder. Structural and elastic properties have been characterized. The theoretical analysis of the elastic properties of PC/ABS/MMT composite with a widely varied number of elementary layers in clay filler particles has been performed in order to estimate the influence of the degree of exfoliation of particles on the effect of reinforcement of the material. Results of the theoretical analysis have been compared with the experimental data about the effects of unmodified and two types of organically modified montmorillonite …

Dispersions of nanosilica in biocompatible copolymers

2010

Dispersions of nanosilica in matrices of biocompatible copolymers were prepared by melt blending. Copolymers with variable molecular size at fixed hydrophilic/hydrophobic ratio and nanosilicas with different interfacial areas were studied. For comparison, a nanoclay was also investigated. The interfacial area played a relevant role in conferring peculiar properties on the nanohybrids. Amazingly, the macromolecule adsorbed on the nanosilica surface maintains some crystallinity which was quantitatively evaluated. In contrast, all the macromolecule anchored to the nanoclay surface is amorphous. The change of the crystalline state was reflected in the dielectric and the electrical conductivity …

Nanoporous Thin Films Based on Polylactide-Grafted Norbornene Copolymers

2008

Thermally stable vinyl polymerized polynorbornene (PNB) is one of the challenging materials in porous low dielectric films for packaging applications. Nanoporous PNB thin films were obtained with poly(d,l-lactide) (PLA)-grafted norbornene copolymers. Thermally labile PLA chains act as pore generators in PNB films. Thermally stable PNB main chains were synthesized by Pd-catalyzed vinyl polymerization and PLA side chains were grafted onto the PNB main chains by ring opening polymerization. The brittle and poor processible properties of PNB could easily be controlled by the copolymerization with norbornene derivatives. In thin films, the PLA chains were found to thermally decompose at about 25…

Dynamics of paramagnetic nanostructured rods under rotating field

2011

International audience; The dynamical rotational behavior of magnetic nanostructured rods based on the auto-association of maghemite nanoparticles and block-copolymers is probed by optical microscopy under rotating fields i n a s imple l iquid. The reorientation of the rods by a field rotated by 90° is first studied. The measured relaxation is characteristic of param-agnetic objects. Under a stationnary rotating field, a synchronous rotational regime is observed at low field frequency. Above a frequency threshold which scales as H^2 , the dynamics becomes asynchronous with back-and-forth rotations. These behaviors are well predicted by the presented model.

Rational design of ABC triblock terpolymer solution nanostructures with controlled patch morphology

2016

Block copolymers self-assemble into a variety of nanostructures that are relevant for science and technology. While the assembly of diblock copolymers is largely understood, predicting the solution assembly of triblock terpolymers remains challenging due to complex interplay of block/block and block/solvent interactions. Here we provide guidelines for the self-assembly of linear ABC triblock terpolymers into a large variety of multicompartment nanostructures with C corona and A/B cores. The ratio of block lengths NC/NA thereby controls micelle geometry to spheres, cylinders, bilayer sheets and vesicles. The insoluble blocks then microphase separate to core A and surface patch B, where NB co…

Synthesis of 3D dendritic gold nanostructures assisted by a templated growth process: Application at the detection of traces of molecules

2020

International audience; Complex architectures like 3D gold dendritic nanostructures were synthesized by an in situ templated growth method using a thin film of a block copolymer [polystyrene-b-poly(4-vinylpyridine)] deposited onto silicon substrates. The overall study has demonstrated the strong link between the morphology, size, and distribution of the structures and the synthetic physicochemical parameters, such as pH, reaction temperature, concentration, and nature of reactants. A nonequilibirum state of the medium has been required to create a fractal growth of the gold structures onto a prepatterned gold-seeded surface and has led to a better control of the structures' surface coverage…

From dots to doughnuts: Two-dimensionally confined deposition of polyelectrolytes on block copolymer templates

2016

© 2016 Elsevier Ltd The combination of block copolymer templating with electrostatic self-assembly provides a simple and robust method for creating nano-patterned polyelectrolyte multilayers over large areas. The deposition of the first polyelectrolyte layer provides important insights on the initial stages of multilayer buildup. Here, we focus on two-dimensionally confined “dots” patterns afforded by block copolymer films featuring hexagonally-packed cylinders that are oriented normal to the substrate. Rendering the cylinder caps positively charged enables the selective deposition of negatively charged polyelectrolytes on them under salt-free conditions. The initially formed polyelectrolyt…

A block copolymer-templated construction approach for the creation of nano-patterned polyelectrolyte multilayers and nanoscale objects

2016

A block copolymer-based assembly approach for the creation of nano-patterned polyelectrolyte multilayers over cm2-scale areas is presented. Up to 5 bi-layers were selectively assembled on top of specific nano-domains featuring different morphologies. The successful isolation of nanoscale objects corresponding in shape to the template features is also demonstrated. This methodology is applicable to different types of polyelectrolytes, and opens up a new dimension for layer-by-layer construction.

Amphiphilic polyaspartamide copolymer-based micelles for rivastigmine delivery to neuronal cells

2012

A novel polysorbate-80 (PS(80))-attached amphiphilic copolymer comprising a hydrophilic α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-D,L-aspartamide (PHEA) backbone and hydrophobic squalenyl-C(17) (Sq(17)) portions was synthesized and characterized; the formation of polymeric micelles was also evaluated. Rivastigmine free-base (Riv), a hydrophobic drug employed to treat Alzheimer's disease, was chosen as model drug to investigate micelle's ability to incorporate hydrophobic molecules and target them to neuronal cells. Micelle formation was studied through analyses including fluorescence spectroscopy and 2D (1)H-NMR NOESY experiments. Finally, the capacity of Riv-loaded micelles, versus free drug, to penetrat…
