The transparency of the cornea is maintained by the stem cells of the corneal epithelium in the limbal region; damage to the limbus may cause partial or total limbal stem cell deficiency that, may lead to blindness. The transplantation of cells is crucial to regenerate the damaged areas. The techniques currently employed consist in cadaveric corneal transplantation or in the use of amniotic membrane as a carrier for delivering cultured limbal stem cells to the cornea. This study describes a corner selection strategy based on the Harris approach. Corners are usually defined as interest points for which intensity variation in the principal directions is locally maximised, as response from a filter given by the linear combination of the determinant and the trace of the autocorrelation matrix. The Harris corner detector, in its original definition, is only rotationally invariant, but scale-invariant and affine-covariant extensions have been developed. Super-resolution-based magnification of endothelium cells from biomicroscope videos of the cornea

We present a practical, robust, and effective pipeline to compute a high-resolution (HR) image of the corneal endothelium starting from a low-resolution (LR) video sequence obtained with a general purpose slit lamp biomicroscope. An image quality typical of dedicated and more expensive confocal microscopes is achieved via software magnification by exploiting information redundancy in the video sequence. In particular, the HR image is generated from the best LR frames, obtained by identifying the most suitable endothelium video subsequence using a support vector machine-based learning approach, followed by a robust graph-based frame registration.
