Nortriptyline for smoking cessation: Release and human skin diffusion from patches
2009
Abstract The objective of this work was to develop a simple and inexpensive transdermal formulation containing Nortriptyline Hydrochloride (NTH) for smoking cessation support therapy. Hydroxypropyl-methyl-cellulose was chosen as polymer and a mixture of transdermal enhancers (selected from previous research) was incorporated. The formulations were characterised in terms of appearance, thickness, uniformity of NTH content, release and skin permeation. Release studies demonstrated controlled release for four formulations. Diffusion studies were performed through human heat separated epidermis (HHSE) using Franz Diffusion Cells (FDC). Patches provided different fluxes varying from 20.39 ± 7.09…

2020
In the medieval cemetery of the Historic Site of San Juan del Hospital of Valencia is housed a small funeral chapel founded in the late thirteenth century by the knight Arnau de Romaní. Along its cornice there are a series of heads of animals and humans that are one of the few sculptural vestiges inserted into the Romanesque iconographic tradition that are preserved in the city. So far they have not aroused the interest of specialists and no one has dedicated a detailed study to these curious and interesting images located in the marginal spaces of such a beautiful building. This article aims to complete this gap addressing the study of the corbels of the small temple, projecting a thematic…
The increasing level of knowledge of the megalithic phenomenon in Cantabria, has been generating a body of data referring to structures that could not be ascribed to traditional typological groups: tumulus, dolmen, or menhir. In this work, this information is reviewed, in light of the results of the recent excavation in …
Presbyopia and the aging eye: Existing refractive approaches and their potential impact on dry eye signs and symptoms.
2020
Every part of the human body is subject to aging, including the eye. Increased prevalence of dry eye disease with age is widely acknowledged: aging threatens ocular surface homeostasis, altering the normal functioning of the lacrimal functional unit and potentially leading to signs and symptoms of dry eye. Parallelly, two additional degenerative processes take place within the crystalline lens, leading to presbyopia and cataractogenesis. With continuously increasing life expectancies both conditions are expected to impact society further. Correction strategies for presbyopia and cataracts either directly or indirectly challenge ocular surface additionally. On one hand, contact lens presbyop…
Laparoscopic management of rudimentary uterine horns in patients with unicornuate uterus: a systematic review
2022
Introduction: Unicornuate uterus is a rare Müllerian anomaly. Its potential association with a rudimentary uterine horn can cause a diagnostic delay. The most common consequences are pelvic pain, hematometra, and endometriosis. Diagnosis of a unicornuate uterus is usually done by imaging combining ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. The aim of this systematic review is to assess the role of laparoscopic approach in the management of this rare condition. Methods: A comprehensive search was performed in PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, and Web of Science databases prior to 1 May 2022 according to Preferred Reporting Ite…
