Proximal Tibiofibular Joint Reconstruction With Autogenous Semitendinosus Tendon Graft

2013

Isolated and chronic anterolateral instability of the proximal tibiofibular joint (TFJ) is an uncommon condition, generally linked to an unrecognized or unhealed dislocation of the TFJ. Clinically, abnormal anterior movement of the head of the fibula is detected. In acute injuries conservative management should be preferred, whereas surgical treatment have been advocated in patients with chronic TFJ instability. Authors describe a new surgical reconstruction technique for chronic instability of the proximal TFJ using an autogenous semitendinosus tendon. The graft is passed through fibular and tibia tunnels and fixed with 2 interference screws. The tibial tunnel is reamed from the posterolat…

Diagnostic Localizing Value of the Electrically Elicited Blink Reflex

1993

The blink reflex (BlinkR) following electrical stimulation of the supraorbital nerve consists of an early ipsilateral reflex component (R1) and bilateral late reflex components ipsilaterally (R2) and contralateral (R2c). An additional, and even later component, also bilateral, R3, R3c was first described by Penders and Delwaide [34] and so far has not been studied systematically.

8-HYDROXY-2'DEOXYGUANOSINE LEVELS AND ANTIOXIDANT STATUS IN RAT LIVER FED WITH OLIVE AND CORN OIL DIETS: EFFECT OF ASCORBIC ACID SUPPLEMENATION

2001

DNA damage and antioxidants status were determined in liver of rat fed with olive and corn oil diets with and without ascorbic acid supplementation. In order to elucidate the role of fat intake, the study included a control and hyperlipidic diet. Liver antioxidant activities were significantly influenced by dietary fat and intake levels. In general, control groups fed with corn oil diets exhibited reduced liver antioxidant (SOD, catalase, and GSH-PX) and GSH levels compared with rats fed on olive oil diets. These activities were lower in rats consuming hyperlipidic diets relative to the control groups. Ascorbic acid supplementation resulted in a slight decrease of antioxidant activities bot…

Determination of unsaturation grade and trans isomers generated during thermal oxidation of edible oils and fats by FTIR

1999

Abstract The oxidative deterioration of culinary oils and fats during episodes of heating associated with normal usage (80°C–300°C, 20–40 min) was monitored by FTIR spectroscopy. The thermal oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids during heating was studied by the determination of unsaturation percentage and trans isomers at various temperatures and heating times. Oils frequently used in food frying such as olive oil, sunflower oil, corn oil and seeds oil (sunflower, safflower and canola seed), and lard were studied. The Absorbance Correction Method is proposed to correct the spectral interference and allows the analytic use of signal which would not be initially valid for quantitative ana…

Analytical evaluation of polyunsaturated fatty acids degradation during thermal oxidation of edible oils by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy

1998

The oxidative deterioration of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in culinary oils and fats during episodes of heating associated with normal usage (80-300 degrees C, 20-40 min) has been monitored by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The thermal oxidation of PUFAs is a free radical chain reaction, in which hydroperoxides are generally recognized as the primary major products. Hydroperoxides of PUFAs are easily decomposed into a very complex mixture of secondary products with the decrease in unsaturation. The oxidative advance of PUFAs during heating was studied by the determination of unsaturation percentage at different temperatures and heating times. Oils frequently used in…

Multiple Short Term Effects of UV-B Radiation on the Diatom Phaeodactylum Tricornutum

1998

Increases in UV-B irradiance lead to many specific damaging effects upon the plants including damage of the thylakoid membrane, partial inhibition of PS II, decrease of chloroplast ATPase activity, loss of enzyme activities in the calvin cycle and alterations in pigment synthesis (1). Under natural conditions enhanced UV-B light is always accompanied by high intensities of photosynthetic active radiation (PAR). Damaging effects due to photoinhibitory PAR and UV-B light which lead to several oxygen radical species (2) could be reduced by photoprotection mechanisms. One of these protection mechanisms is the xanthophyll cycle. In higher plants and green algae violaxanthin is converted to zeaxa…

Flogosi post-trapianto di cornea

2013

Effect of the color of the intraocular lens on optical and visual quality

2014

Purpose: To analyze the optical quality of intraocular lenses (IOL) with an orange (PC440Y) and a yellow (SN60AT) filter, and correlate these results with the visual quality of patients with these implants. Setting: Fisabio Oftalmología Médica, Valencia, Spain. Design: Randomized prospective study. Materials and Methods: The IOL optical quality was determined using the modulation transfer function (MTF) and the spectral transmission. The visual quality of 87 eyes with cataract (51 with orange filter and 36 with yellow filter) was determined by best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and contrast sensitivity function (CSF) under photopic and mesopic conditions. To analyze the results, we use a S…
