Effectiveness of a physiotherapy and nutrition program in patients with coronary artery disease: randomized controlled trial
2021
Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Introduction. Dietary and exercise interventions are effective strategies for improving physical and nutritional status of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). However, few studies have applied a combined exercise protocol based on high intensity interval training (HIIT) and dietary education in patients with CAD with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Purpose This study researches the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary program based in HIIT with dietary education (DEHIIT) in comparison with only HIIT, on adherence to Mediterranean diet in CAD patients with PCI. Methods. A prospective, assessor-blinded, parall…
Multidisciplinary program based in physiotherapy and nutrition in coronary artery disease patients: randomized controlled trial
2021
Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Introduction. The interventions on eating habits and exercise in physiotherapy programs are usually recommended in coronary artery disease (CAD), since they are beneficial to improve physical and nutritional status of patient. Despite this, scarce studies are focused on combined protocols based on high intensity interval training (HIIT) and dietary education in CAD patients with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Purpose The main goal of this study was to compare the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary program based in HIIT, with a program based in dietary education and HIIT (DEHIIT), on eating habits in CAD patients w…
Impact of a program based in eating habits and physiotherapy on anthropometric parameters in patients with coronary artery disease: randomized contro…

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Introduction. On the one hand, physical training such as High intensity interval training (HIIT) and on the other, eating habits, it is often prescribed to patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Nevertheless, the combination of HIIT and eating habits in CAD with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) there is no consensus on using a combined protocol of both. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of an HIIT program with eating habits, with a program based in HIIT, on anthropometric parameters in CAD patients with PCI. Methods. A randomized controlled trial was carried out in a hospital. 44 pati…
OVERCOMING SOCIAL ISOLATION WITH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AMONG AGEING POPULATIONS DURING COVID-19
2021
During Covid-19 social isolation has become more common worldwide, however, some groups, especially elderly people, might have experienced dramatically limited communication due to the lack of skills and access to digital technologies. In this paper, we examined if education was associated with the use of digital technologies to maintain contacts with a family, friends, other social networks and services. The survey was conducted in June-August 2020 by doing 1089 computer-assisted telephone interviews. The questions examined how people aged 50 years and older coped with socioeconomic and health-related impact of COVID-19.We used logistic regression analysis to study the association between …
Derivation and Validation of a Chronic Total Coronary Occlusion Intervention Procedural Success Score From the 20,000-Patient EuroCTO Registry : the …
2019
Objectives: The aim was to establish a contemporary scoring system to predict the outcome of chronic total occlusion coronary angioplasty. Background: Interventional treatment of chronic total coronary occlusions (CTOs) is a developing subspecialty. Predictors of technical success or failure have been derived from datasets of modest size. A robust scoring tool could facilitate case selection and inform decision making. Methods: The study analyzed data from the EuroCTO registry. This prospective database was set up in 2008 and includes >20,000 cases submitted by CTO expert operators (>50 cases/year). Derivation (n = 14,882) and validation (n = 5,745) datasets were created to develop a …
Clinical significance of macrophage colony stimulating factor levels in acute coronary syndrome.
2009
Aim. The aim of this paper was to ascertain whether macrophage colony stimulating factor (MCSF) serum levels, measured during the acute phase of coronary syndromes (ACS), are useful to predict short term outcomes. Methods. Seventy-four consecutive patients (mean age: 66±12), admitted to the Intensive Coronary Care Unit of Palermo University Hospital (Italy) affected by ACS were observed; 39 patients showed a non ST elevation (NSTEMI) and 35 showed a ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). During the hospital stay, all patients underwent echocardiography and 84% of patients received coronary angiography. Peripheral venous blood samples were collected for the determination of serum levels…

A Full-Scale Agent-Based Model of Lombardy COVID-19 Dynamics to Explore Social Networks Connectivity and Vaccine Impact on Epidemic
2020
ABSTRACTSeptember 13, 2020COVID-19 outbreak is an awful event. However it gives to the scientists the possibility to test theories about epidemic. The aim of this contribution is to propose a individual-based model of Lombardy COVID-19 outbreak at full-scale, where full-scale means that will be simulated all the 10 millions inhabitant population of Lombardy person by person, in a commercial computer. All this to test the impact of our daily actions in epidemic, investigate social networks connectivity and in the end have an insight on the impact of an hypothetical vaccine.

Diagonal ear lobe crease and atherosclerosis : a review of the medical literature and dental implications
2011
In Spain a significant number of individuals die from atherosclerotic disease of the coronary and carotid arteries without having classic risk factors and prodromal symptoms. The diagonal ear lobe crease (DELC) has been characterized in the medical literature as a surrogate marker which can identify high risk patients having occult atherosclerosis. This topic however has not been examined in either the medical or dental literature emanating from Spain. The majority of clinical, angiography and postmortem reports support the premise that DELC is a valuable extravascular physical sign able to distinguish some patients at risk of succumbing to atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries. A minori…
