University Governance and Finance: The Impact of Changes in Resource Allocation on Decision Making Structures

2002

When trying to account for changes that take place over time in the structure of any organisation, social scientists often use a conceptual framework known as resource dependency theory. This theory assumes that organisations survive only if they are able to react to changes that occur in the world around them in order to obtain the resources they need to stay in operation. Since they have the capacity for independent action, organisations are not passively shaped by their environment; they sometimes are also able to influence it.

Déni du travail et tyrannie des normes

2012

Based on the example of two quality processes deployed at the SNCF in the field of the service encounter, the aim of this article is to explore, from a clinical point of view, organizational mechanisms which encourage the denial of work. The norms of services previously defined contributed to the front office agents' denial of work, essentially because the respect of these norms became an ultimate finality. This situation has induced an "annoyed activity" (CLOT, 2009) among the front office agents, owing to the fact that the norms have been perceived as a hindrance to the accomplishment of a high-grade work. In the two previous practical examples, the reality (of work), the real work (in op…

Tax incentives to encourage corporate investment in Latvia

2020

During 2006‐2017, Latvia has applied a rather generous accelerated depreciation (AD) policy to stimulate firm investment. The AD policy included: (1) the general AD scheme, (2) incentives to acquire new technological equipment, and (3) Investment incentives in the specially assisted areas. This paper analyses the effect of accelerated depreciation policy on firm investment using administrative firm‐level data for 2007–14. Lacking data for a natural experiment (AD began before our sample period), we use difference‐in-differences methodology with identification based on variation either across time (the crisis period serving as quasi‐counterfactual) or by firm size (with large firms unlikely …
