How Virtuous is Your Firm? A Checklist

2009

Scholars are noting a change in the way business is being conducted. Many firms --one scholar estimates the number at 15%-- are concerned about values rather than focusing exclusively on maximizing profits. This new kind of capitalism considers factors such as societal needs, quality, needs of employees, and environmental sustainability in business decision making. In addition, a large number of consumers (approximately 70 million Americans), known as values-driven consumers, prefer doing business with companies that have values. This paper provides a checklist that can be used by firms to determine whether or not they are indeed virtuous; if they are not, the authors provide reasons why th…

Osservazioni su Gai 2.14 e le res incorporales

2012

Through a critical review of some issues concerning the content of Gai 2.14 and the systematic and conceptual meaning of the res incorporales in the Gaius’ Institutes, the author defends the integration ‘ea quae iure consistunt’ (§§ 2-3) – which expresses a subjective perspective of ius (§ 3) – with new topics; it is particularly stressed that the two terms of the classification ‘res corporales / res incorporales’ – which is not possible to determine if it has been adopted first by Gaius (§ 4) – are considered by the jurist as elements of the patrimonium, more specifically from the point of view of the ways in which they enter into the patrimonium or come out from it, in accordance with a g…

Nurturing the Interpreneur

2007

Few topics in the family business literature have been studied more than management and ownership succession. In today’s competitive global economy, businesses find that innovation, growth and other entrepreneurial behaviors are necessary to survive and prosper. Ernesto Poza (1988) proposed a model for developing entrepreneurial orientations and actions in family business successors, labeling those successors interpreneurs. This study reports the results of interviews with five second-generation company owners and determines how well their experiences match the precepts of Poza’s model. Analyses find that the CEOs behaved entrepreneurially post-transition, but with few examples of conscious…

Social Entrepreneurship Discourses and Contributions : A Literature Analysis

2017

Differing from traditional type of entrepreneurship (i.e. business/ commercial entrepreneurship), social entrepreneurship embeds social value creation as its main objective. Recently, social entrepreneurship research is gaining popularity; meanwhile, ethics within social enterprises have not been comprehensively analyzed and debated. How to teach and train social entrepreneurs has also become a point of pedagogical significance. With a critical review of extant literature related to social entrepreneurship, a series of concepts emanate. A firm's activity in social media and its relationship with corporate reputation and firm performance

2015

There is growing debate about whether companies’ investments in social media really pay off. This research attempts to contribute to this discussion by investigating the relationship between a firm’s social media activity and two outcomes, namely, company reputation and firm financial performance. Two propositions are developed based on theory and tested with a sample of 59 companies. The findings suggest that a firm’s social media activity is only partially linked with its financial performance and is not linked with corporate reputation. The implications of the research suggest that little is known about the relationships between a firm’s social media activity and corporate reputation and…

We studied the implications of the use of social media by the board members by using structural equation modeling (SEM). The data consisted of a random sample of 100 companies listed on the NASDAQ. The study makes two main contributions. First, it shows interesting differences in the use of social media for the operating revenue. Our results suggest that while Twitt…
