The calculation of shadow prices for industrial wastes using distance functions: An analysis for Spanish ceramic pavements firms

2001

Abstract This paper deals with the calculation of shadow prices for two industrial wastes generated on their production processes by 18 firms belonging to the Spanish ceramic pavements industry. These prices are then used to calculate an extended productivity index which takes into consideration wastes going with the production of marketable goods. We follow the methodological approach first proposed by Fare et al. (The Review of Economics and Statistics 75 (1993)). A negative correlation is found between absolute shadow prices and wastes production intensity, reflecting a greater marginal cost of eliminating wastes for those firms using less contaminant production processes. Differences be…

Collective Behavior of Price Changes of ERC-20 Tokens

2020

We analyze a network constructed from tokens developed on Ethereum platform. We collect a large data set of ERC-20 token prices; the total market capitalization of the token set is 50.2 billion (109) US dollars. The token set includes 541 tokens; each one of them has a market capitalization of 1 million US dollars or more. We construct and analyze the networks based on cross-correlation of tokens’ returns. We find that the degree distributions of the resulting graphs do not follow the power law degree distribution. We cannot find any hierarchical structures nor groupings of ERC-20 tokens in our analysis. peerReviewed

The effectiveness of several market integration measures when facing a market turmoil

2003

Many market integration measures are operationalized to compute their numerical values during a period characterized by the lack of stability and market turmoil. The results of the tests give their degree of effectiveness, and reveal that the measures based on the principles of asset valuation, versus statistical measures, more clearly yield the level of integration of financial markets. Besides, cross market arbitrage-linked measures and equilibrium models-linked measures provide complementary information and reflect different properties, and consequently, both types of measures may be useful in practice.

MARKET CORRELATION, MARKET RETURNS AND PORTFOLIO IMPLICATION

2012

In this paper we examine the market correlation and market returns from Romanian perspective. Market returns are higher in emerging markets than developed market returns, but form portfolio perspective it`s also important to evaluate how much correlations are changing in emerging markets. Our results are important in allocation of financial instruments in institutional portfolio management.

Model reduction techniques for the computation of extended Markov parameterizations for generalized Langevin equations

2021

Abstract The generalized Langevin equation is a model for the motion of coarse-grained particles where dissipative forces are represented by a memory term. The numerical realization of such a model requires the implementation of a stochastic delay-differential equation and the estimation of a corresponding memory kernel. Here we develop a new approach for computing a data-driven Markov model for the motion of the particles, given equidistant samples of their velocity autocorrelation function. Our method bypasses the determination of the underlying memory kernel by representing it via up to about twenty auxiliary variables. The algorithm is based on a sophisticated variant of the Prony metho…

A New Iterative Estimation Procedure for the Localization of Passive Stationary Objects from Received RF Signals in Indoor Environments

2019

This paper deals with the localization of passive stationary objects from the received radio- frequency (RF) signals in 3-dimensional (3D) indoor environments. Each object located in the 3D indoor environment is modelled by a single point scatterer. The propagation space is equipped with a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication system. The employed channel model is flexible and allows to have a line-of-sight (LOS) component as well as single- and double- bounce scattering components. Here, we present a new accurate iterative estimation technique for computing the optimal coordinates as well as the number of the main stationary objects (scatterers) in indoor areas. The …

Flexural strength and microhardness of anterior composites after accelerated aging

2016

Background This study aimed to evaluate the flexural strength and microhardness of three different anterior composites after 10 000 thermocycles. Material and Methods The mechanical properties of a nano-fill composite (Filtek Ultimate Universal Restorative (FUR) (Enamel)), a nano-hybrid composite (Clearfil Majesty ES2 (ES2) (Enamel)), and a micro-hybrid composite (G Aenial Anterior (GAA)) were investigated in this study. For the microhardness test, 8-mm diameter and 2-mm thickness composite discs were used (n = 10), and for the flexural strength test, 25x2x2 mm bar-shaped specimens were prepared (n = 13). The specimens were tested at 24 h and after 10 000 thermocycles. Data were analyzed us…

First-principles calculations of perovskite thin films

2002

Abstract The results of the electronic structure calculations for different surface terminations of SrTiO3 (1 0 0) perovskite thin films are discussed. These calculations are based on ab initio Hartree–Fock method with a posteriori electron correlation corrections and density functional theory with a number of different exchange-correlation functionals, including hybrid (B3PW, B3LYP) exchange techniques. Results are compared with previous ab initio plane-wave local density approximation and classical shell model calculations. Calculated considerable increase of the Ti–O chemical bond covalency nearby the surface is confirmed by experimental data. We predict also the band-gap reduction, espe…

2 H-NMR-Stimulated Echo Study of Ultraslow Reorientational Motion in Viscous Glycerol near Its Glass Transition Temperature

1990

2H-NMR stimulated echo experiments have been performed in order to study the molecular basis of the ?-process in viscous glycerol near its glass transition temperature. Decay functions following modified Jeener-Broekaert pulse sequences were compared with predictions from different models for molecular reorientation. Rotational diffusion, rotational random jumps, rotational fixed-angle jumps and combinations of diffusive and jump motions have been tested. All data are fitted with a log-Gaussian distribution of correlation times. Thereby, small-but finite-angle reorientation processes turn out to dominate in the 10-3 s.. 100 s regime. Pure large-angle rotational jumps can be ruled out with h…

Estimation of solar-induced vegetation fluorescence from space measurements

2007

[1] A characteristic spectral emission is observed in vegetation chlorophyll under excitation by solar radiation. This emission, known as solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence, occurs in the red and near infra-red spectral regions. In this paper a new methodology for the estimation of solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence from spaceborne and airborne sensors is presented. The fluorescence signal is included in an atmospheric radiative transfer scheme so that chlorophyll fluorescence and surface reflectance are retrieved consistently from the measured at-sensor radiance. This methodology is tested on images acquired by the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) on board the ENVIron…
