Regulation of the type II oncostatin M receptor expression in lung-derived epithelial cells

1998

AbstractOncostatin M (OSM) is a potent modulator of human lung-derived epithelial cell function. This cytokine binds two distinct receptor complexes: type I OSM receptor which is also a functional receptor for leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), and type II OSM-specific receptor. The role of these two distinct receptors in mediating the response of individual cell types to OSM has not been delineated. In contrast to LIF, OSM induces synthesis of α1-antichymotrypsin and α1-antiproteinase inhibitor in lung-derived epithelial cells. The differential responsiveness to LIF and OSM suggested that the response of lung epithelial cells to OSM may be mediated by the OSM-specific receptor. Therefore, w…

Circostanze del reato e tutela del minore

2020

Abundance and Distribution Patterns of Thunnus albacares in Isla del Coco National Park through Predictive Habitat Suitability Models

2016

Information on the distribution and habitat preferences of ecologically and commercially important species is essential for their management and protection. This is especially important as climate change, pollution, and overfishing change the structure and functioning of pelagic ecosystems. In this study, we used Bayesian hierarchical spatial-temporal models to map the Essential Fish Habitats of the Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) in the waters around Isla del Coco National Park, Pacific Costa Rica, based on independent underwater observations from 1993 to 2013. We assessed if observed changes in the distribution and abundance of this species are related with habitat characteristics, fis…

A short survey on nonlinear models of the classic Costas loop: rigorous derivation and limitations of the classic analysis

2015

Rigorous nonlinear analysis of the physical model of Costas loop --- a classic phase-locked loop (PLL) based circuit for carrier recovery, is a challenging task. Thus for its analysis, simplified mathematical models and numerical simulation are widely used. In this work a short survey on nonlinear models of the BPSK Costas loop, used for pre-design and post-design analysis, is presented. Their rigorous derivation and limitations of classic analysis are discussed. It is shown that the use of simplified mathematical models, and the application of non rigorous methods of analysis (e.g., simulation and linearization) may lead to wrong conclusions concerning the performance of the Costas loop ph…

The finger of Beelzebub. The consecration of judicial review of constitutionality in Portugal in 1911

2022

Without entirely breaking with the political review of constitutionality established in the 19th century, Portugal, which became a republic after the October 1910 revolution, decided to enshrine judicial review of constitutionality in its 1911 Constitution. The choice of the American model of diffuse review was intended to break with the main guarantee offered in the days of 'granted constitutionalism', when the moderating power of the King acted as guarantor of the Constitution alongside the political chambers. This was the aim of the promoter of this legal revolution, the law professor Afonso Costa, a strong man of the First Republic, who was able to convert his initially hostile republic…

Marketing communication for the company`s „Es mīlu kafiju” and „Costa Coffee Latvia” during Covid-19

2021

Bakalaura darba pētījumi norāda uz to, ka v…

2011

Objective: This study assessed the treatment preferences among Latin-American psychiatrists for their bipolar disorder patients and if these preferences reflect the current guidelines. Methods: We designed a survey comprised of fourteen questions. All the questions were aimed at the treatment of bipolar I patients only. We distributed the survey by hand or e-mail to psychiatrists in eight different countries: Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, México, Perú and Venezuela. Between May 2008 and June 2009, we were able to gather 1143 surveys. Results: As the initial choice of treatment for a bipolar patient who debuts with mania, 61.3% choose a combination of an atypical antipsyc…
