After the fall of Constantinople (1453), Pero Tafur and Bertrandon de La Broquière make known their works, which are two of the most important travel books written in Europe during the fifteenth century. Both travellers had known, between fifteen and twenty years before, the emperor of Greece, John VIII Palaiologos, Pope Eugene IV and other protagonists of the councils of Basel (1431-1434) and Ferrara-Florence (1438-1439), which decreed the union between the Roman and Greek churches. This paper deals with the biography of the doctor from Valencia Pere Pintor, a member of a family of Valencian Jewish conversos. He was a doctor who, after training at the Estudi General in Lleida, worked for nearly thirty years in the city of Valencia, in the service of the municipal council, numerous noblemen, and the royal household. As a doctor, he became very successful and well known, and he amassed great wealth in parallel to his social advancement. All this was placed in jeopardy with the establishment, in 1481, of the court of the Holy Inquisition in the kingdom of Valencia, which fiercely attacked and repressed Pintor and his family. [Resumen] El Decreto de 27 de enero de 1822 llevó a cabo una nueva división del territorio español que afectó sustancialmente a Galicia. Así, por primera vez, se conformaron cuatro provincias, una de las cuales sería Orense. Del gobierno de esta nueva circunscripción se ocupará la Diputación Provincial. Este trabajo se centra en explicar los inicios de esta institución, particularmente su puesta en marcha, y las competencias más importantes que desarrolló.

Motivations, adoption and impact of voluntary environmental certification in the Italian Forest based industry: The case of the FSC standard

Abstract Over the past few years several private voluntary schemes have been developed worldwide to address the environmental issues in the forest based industry. Using survey data, this study analyse the main factors motivating companies operating in the Italian forest based industry to implement FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standard, as a tool to promote responsible forest management and traceability of derived products, and the impact of this standard on the economic and organisational results.
