Integration Through Participation Introductory Notes to the Study of Administrative Integration

2002

When aiming at studying the interconnectedness of administrative systems - and in particular the integration of domestic governance systems and the institutions of the European Union - at least two variables are important to address: (i) the intensity and frequency of cross-level interaction and participation amongst the members of these systems, and (ii) the principles of organization being uppermost at both levels of governance. This article argues that in order to measure administrative integration, particular emphasis should be attached to the way these variables impact upon the organization members individually. Put more precisely, I argue that studies of administrative integration sho…

Administrative Fusion: Less Than a European ‘Mega‐administration’

2009

Abstract This study explores administrative fusion. It is argued that the differentiated organizational constellation of the European Union contributes to a differentiated fusion of domestic core executive institutions. The European Commission mainly activates the lower echelons of domestic government hierarchies and contributes to a relative weakening of domestic politico‐administrative leadership. On the contrary, the Council of Ministers accompanies primarily a strengthening of domestic government hierarchies — notably the Foreign Office. Based on a rich body of survey data, this article reveals that multi‐level interaction of administrative systems between the European Commission and th…

This article is a close-reading of the essay Gramsci et le pouvoir, published in 1990 by the French thinker and translator Géra…

Planck scale physics and topology change through an exactly solvable model

2014

We consider the collapse of a charged radiation fluid in a Planck-suppressed quadratic extension of General Relativity (GR) formulated à la Palatini. We obtain exact analytical solutions that extend the charged Vaidya-type solution of GR, which allows to explore in detail new physics at the Planck scale. Starting from Minkowski space, we find that the collapsing fluid generates wormholes supported by the electric field. We discuss the relevance of our findings in relation to the quantum foam structure of space–time and the meaning of curvature divergences in this theory.

Obispos españoles en Sicilia: origen judeoconverso y acción pastoral «tridentina» (siglos XVI-XVII)

2021

Dutch litigation before the Great Council of Mechlin : An additional calendar of the 'Appeals from Holland'

2009

AbstractM. Oosterbosch's additional calendar of documents belonging to the series 'Appeals from Holland' (Brussels, General Archives of the Realm, Collection Great Council of Mechlin) refers to hitherto unknown documents which may encourage fresh thematic research and case-studies on conflicts and litigation which originated mostly from Holland and Zeeland (from the 1460s until the 1580s), and to a lesser extent from Utrecht and (also during later periods) from Gelderland.

El bordell dels prohoms. El control municipal de la prostitució al Castelló del segle XV

2005

As in other medieval towns, local authorities of Castelló de la Plana controled legal prostitution. Town council supported public brothel in order to dissuade some passions that, otherwise, could degenerate into adultery and violence, and in the lastanalysis into disorders that threaten marriage as guarantee of material and social reproduction of community and its hierarchies. In this paper we analyze moral and politic arguments, places and protagonists of legal prostitution, and repression of transgressor behaviours.

Com en altres poblacions medievals, les autoritats municipals de Castelló de la Plana regulaven I'exercici legal de la prostitució. A la tutela del operario: los patronos ante la Escuela Industrial de Artesanos de Valencia 1868-1888

2015

This article studies the Industrial School of Artisans of Valencia since its founding to its closure. This initiative promoted by the county council had the collaboration of the teaching staff of the Valencia public school, but had an uneven success depending on the political circumstances. However, the work of the school and its independence as a public institution aroused the suspicions of the patrons of the city of Valencia, who tried to control the access of workers to this type of education in order to strengthen relations of patronage in their companies.; El presente artículo estudia la Escuela Industrial de Artesanos de Valencia desde su fundación hasta su supresión. The European Courts and the Security Council: Between Dédoublement Fonctionnel and Balancing of Values: a Rejoinder to Grainne de Burca, André Nollka…

2009

Email: chiara.vitucci@unipa.it 1 Nollkaemper, ‘ The European Courts and the Security Council: Between Dedoublement Fonctionnel and Balancing of Values: A Reply to De Sena and Vitucci ’ , 20 EJIL (2009) 862. Andre Nollkaemper, Grainne de Burca and Iris Canor have made a number of critical observations which are – in part at least – interesting and useful. A full examination of them would probably demand more time and more space than we have been given here. Nevertheless, we will try to reply to some of their remarks and to clear up…

Alcune riflessioni sull’indipendenza giudiziaria nel contesto europeo

2023

This article aims to provide some reflections on the links between judiciary independence, the rule of law, and the role of judges both national and European. First of all, it focuses on the evolution of the role of the judge in the constitutional and European systems. Then, it shows how the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights have developed criteria to ensure the independence of judges, analysing them. Moreover, it examines the criteria that have been developed by the European courts and by the opinions of the Consultative Council of European Judges about the independence of the Judiciary Councils.
