Los programas de cumplimiento penal : Aspectos generales
2021
In Spain, as in many other countries, corporate criminal liability has been a reality for years, as well as criminal compliance programs that allow them to be mitigated or exonerated from liability. In this article we will present some of the main keys to consider for the implementation of these mechanisms. This is a series of general considerations that can serve as a guide to understand the complex system of crime prevention provided by the organization and management models in the corporate environment.
Liquidación de la sociedad de gananciales: el caso de la adjudicación forzosa de participaciones sociales de carácter ganancial a un solo cónyuge. Co…
2021
In a liquidation of community property, the rules for the partition of the inheritance are of suppletive application. Therefore, the sentence opts for a criterion of flexible interpretation of those rules, whose application will be subject to the objective entity of the property in question. Accordingly, when the only property to be shared between the spouses is constituted by set of shares of common nature, taking into account the special circumstances of the case, such shares could be awarded to one of the spouses with the obligation to compensate the other in money, even if it requests the sale of the shares in the public auction. To this end, the request would have to impede the possibi…
Gestación subrogada y dignidad de la mujer
2018
The situation of the surrogate pregnancy in Spain demands action by our legislators and / or our public authorities. The reason is that the current legal system in which there is a ban of the surrogacy contract is not being attended. In this issue an analysis of the situation in Spain and in other countries is made, to conclude from the right to the dignity of women, that possible actions could be taken to adapt the reality to the legal system.
Development of Artificial Intelligence Methods for Clinical Genomics
2022
Deep-Sea Bioluminescence Blooms after Dense Water Formation at the Ocean Surface
2013
The deep ocean is the largest and least known ecosystem on Earth. It hosts numerous pelagic organisms, most of which are able to emit light. Here we present a unique data set consisting of a 2.5-year long record of light emission by deep-sea pelagic organisms, measured from December 2007 to June 2010 at the ANTARES underwater neutrino telescope in the deep NW Mediterranean Sea, jointly with synchronous hydrological records. This is the longest continuous time-series of deep-sea bioluminescence ever recorded. Our record reveals several weeks long, seasonal bioluminescence blooms with light intensity up to two orders of magnitude higher than background values, which correlate to changes in th…
Perspectives for the Treatment of Brucellosis in the 21st Century: The Ioannina Recommendations
2007
Policy Forum. Competing interests: ER has received research grants from Daiichi, Bayer, and Theravance and has served as a consultant to Pfizer, Theravance, Bayer, Wyeth, Rosetta, and BiondVax. Summary Points Brucellosis remains the commonest anthropozoonosis worldwide, and its treatment remains complex, requiring protracted administration of more than one antibiotic. In November 2006, a consensus meeting aimed at reaching a common specialist statement on the treatment of brucellosis was held in Ioannina, Greece under the auspices of the International Society of Chemotherapy and the Institute of Continuing Medical Education of Ioannina. The author panel suggests that the optimal treatment o…
Measurements of underlying-event properties using neutral and charged particles in pp collisions at root s=900 GeV and root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS de…
2011
We present first measurements of charged and neutral particle-flow correlations in pp collisions using the ATLAS calorimeters. Data were collected in 2009 and 2010 at centre-of-mass energies of 900 GeV and 7 TeV. Events were selected using a minimum-bias trigger which required a charged particle in scintillation counters on either side of the interaction point. Particle flows, sensitive to the underlying event, are measured using clusters of energy in the ATLAS calorimeters, taking advantage of their fine granularity. No Monte Carlo generator used in this analysis can accurately describe the measurements. The results are independent of those based on charged particles measured by the ATLAS …

Search for Extraterrestrial Point Sources of Neutrinos with AMANDA-II
2003
We present the results of a search for point sources of high energy neutrinos in the northern hemisphere using AMANDA-II data collected in the year 2000. Included are flux limits on several AGN blazars, microquasars, magnetars and other candidate neutrino sources. A search for excesses above a random background of cosmic-ray-induced atmospheric neutrinos and misreconstructed downgoing cosmic-ray muons reveals no statistically significant neutrino point sources. We show that AMANDA-II has achieved the sensitivity required to probe known TeV gamma-ray sources such as the blazar Markarian 501 in its 1997 flaring state at a level where neutrino and gamma-ray fluxes are equal.
Decisione pubblica e responsabilità dell’amministrazione nella società dell’algoritmo
2019
In the information society, algorithms are increasingly employed to take crucial decisions that affect people’s life. By including, excluding, classifying and ranking, algorithms decide prizes and penalties, benefits and liabilities, both in the private and in the public sector: health, employment, education, finance, housing, and even criminal justice. Despite being often presented as scientific, objective and neutral, made of numbers, rules and data, this is rarely the case: in fact, algorithms adopt predictive models which involve critical judgements based on questionable opinions, beliefs, values, biases and sometimes prejudices. Algorithmic decisions are also highly resistant to legal …
