Identity and future concerns among adolescents from Italy, Turkey and Germany: intra and between-cultural comparisons
2010
The present study investigated stress perception and coping styles in 3259 Turkish, Italian, and German adolescents with a mean age of 14.97 years (SD = 1.74). The adolescents filled in self-report measures assessing stress perception and coping styles in two problem domains: future and identity. In order to allow for analyses of intra-country and inter-country variation, two subsamples were assessed per country. Results revealed that adolescents from all countries experienced future concerns as most stressful. Identity-related stressors showed a greater inter-country variation. However, intra-country variation in stress perception was much lower than variation in stress perception between …
Gendered pathways to young adult symptomatology
2016
The transition to adulthood is a critical juncture in the course of psychopathology. This study examined the ways in which earlier capacity to deal with relationship stress during adolescence contributed to an adaptive outcome in emerging adulthood. In a prospective study of 145 individuals, relationship stress, individual coping capacities, and perceived support from fathers, mothers, and peers were analyzed, when the participants were 13 and 17 years old. The effects of these earlier capacities to deal with relationship stress on health outcomes were examined in young adulthood (age 23). Gendered pathways to young adults’ symptomatology emerged. Females experiencing earlier relationship …
Managing Trust and Risk in New Biotechnologies: The Case of Population Genome Project and Organ Transplantation in Latvia
2011
The paper analyses the application of the two biotechnologies – organ transplantation and population genome project in Latvian society. The case is based on 16 interviews with doctors, scientists, patients and donors and media texts discourse analysis. The notions of trust and risk emerge as a counterpart of coping with the challenges the technologies pose to the “traditional” relations between actors and concepts involved – organs, genes, illness, patients, doctors, hospital units and science. New biotechnologies erode previously stable categories and relationships between the notions and experiences of illness/ health, individual/collective, science/society, nature/culture, gift/market an…
Le discours coranique : énonciation et énonciateurs
2018
The Qur'an, an omnipresent discourse via different media, has been a constant source of attention since the beginning of writing in the Arab sphere; writing as a composition of works because culture was, before the Koran, oral. From then until today, he remains an inexhaustible object of study and speculation. The language sciences are not sufficiently exploited to explore its mysteries as a unique religious discourse. Linguistic studies were limited to the linguistic domains of Arabic such as syntax and rhetoric which attempted to resurrect what makes the Koran an inimitable discourse as it presents itself and as presented by Islamic Tradition. This work aims at an analysis that draws mode…

2020
Available online 22 July 2020. Other co-authors: ANTONUCCI, T. C., DYKSTRA, P. A., HECKHAUSEN, J., KUH, D., MAYER, K. U., MOEN, P., MORTIMER, J. T., MULDER, C. H., SMEEDING, T. M., VAN DER LIPPE, T., HAGESTAD, G. O., KOHLI, Martin, LEVY, R., SCHOON, I., & THOMSON, E. The Covid-19 pandemic is shaking fundamental assumptions about the human life course in societies around the world. In this essay, we draw on our collective expertise to illustrate how a life course perspective can make critical contributions to understanding the pandemic’s effects on individuals, families, and populations. We explore the pandemic’s implications for the organization and experience of life transitions and trajec…
Talis pater, talis filius: the role of discursive strategies, thematic narratives and ideology in Cosa Nostra
2018
The discursive analysis of criminal organizations’ family dynamics and ideological devices may provide important insights into the inner functioning of these groups. In this article, we describe and analyze a specific set of discursive strategies and the thematic narratives emerging from a TV interview with Giuseppe Riina, a member of Cosa Nostra and the son of one of the most important mafia bosses. Our analyses demonstrate the existence of recurring ideological devices such as reductionism, amoralism, familism, verticalism, normalism, victimism and religious relativism. The results are discussed in light of previous research that examines how discursive strategies and narratives may repre…

A research program combining the analysis of situated activity and the development of training tools: an example from elite sport This article presents an original program that combines research and This article presents an original program that combines research and training development. Between 1997 and 2002, several studies of the activity of expert table tennis players during matches were carried out within the framework of course-of-action theory (Theureau, 1992, 2004). These studies had been formally agreed on by coaches, athletes and researchers and responded to both sports needs and scientific interests. Matches were videotaped during international meetings and followed by self-conf…
Etude de la construction de compétences sociales par une analyse de l’activité en situation de formation : transformation du rapport à soi et aux aut…
2019
In the field of adult education, the question of social skills emerges from current societal issues. The development of service professions, globalization and the virtualization of organizations involve social skills, combining intrapersonal provisions linked to self-relationship (self-confidence, stress management, etc.) and interpersonal provisions linked to relationships with others (teamwork and networking, empathy, etc.) sought by employers. However, social skills are rarely addressed in adult education because they are considered aspart of “on-the-job” learning (Durand, 2008).This study therefore has a dual epistemic and transformative objective: to know how participation in training …
