Supplementary data for: Improved camouflage through ontogenetic colour change confers reduced detection risk in shore crabs

2019

Many animals change appearance with age but the reasons why are rarely tested. Common shore crabs (Carcinus maenas), for example, are known for their ability to change colour over time. Young crabs show remarkable variation in coloration and it has been suggested that their variable appearance may help them to hide from predators in the habitats they use. However, as crabs grow they become more mobile and adult crabs, in contrast, are known to possess a more uniform coloration. This creates a problem: how to remain hidden in habitats that are variable and very different in appearance? To answer this, we first reared young shore crabs of two shades, pale or dark, on two background types rese…

Crab spiders of the families Thomisidae and Philodromidae (Arachnida: Araneae) from Iran

2004

Spiders of the families Thomisidae and Philodromidae (Arachnida, Araneae) mainly collected in the mountainous areas of Iran in 1978 are taxonomically studied and classified into 21 species of 10 genera. Most species are illustrated and described on the basis of the present specimens. Except for only two species, Xysticus kulczynskii Wierzbicki 1902 and Synaema globosum (Fabricius 1775), already known from this country, 19 species are new records to the Iranian fauna. Of these, 14 species, Tmarus stellio Simon 1875, Xysticus ninnii Thorell 1872 (subsp. fusciventris Crome 1965), X. cristatus (Clerck 1758), X. kochi Thorell 1872, X. gallicus Simon 1875, Oxyptila nigrita Thorell 1875, Heriaeus …

"Scrabble" spēles vides implementācija

2019

Šis dokuments ir Latvijas Universitātes Datorikas fakultātes pirmā līmeņa profesionālās augstākās izglītības studiju programmas “Programmēšana un datortīklu administrēšana” kvalifikācijas darba ietvaros izstrādātās ““Scrabble” spēles vides implementācija” tehniskā dokumentācija, kas ietver programmatūras prasību specifikāciju un programmatūras projektējuma aprakstu. ““Scrabble” spēles vides implementācijas” mērķis ir nodrošināt lietotājam iespēju spēlēt tradicionālo galda spēli “Scrabble” datora vidē un vienam pašam, lai praktizētu savas “Scrabble” prasmes.

SPI/INTEGRAL in-flight performance

2003

The SPI instrument has been launched on-board the INTEGRAL observatory on October 17, 2002. SPI is a spectrometer devoted to the sky observation in the 20 keV-8 MeV energy range using 19 germanium detectors. The performance of the cryogenic system is nominal and allows to cool the 19 kg of germanium down to 85 K with a comfortable margin. The energy resolution of the whole camera is 2.5 keV at 1.1 MeV. This resolution degrades with time due to particle irradiation in space. We show that the annealing process allows the recovery of the initial performance. The anticoincidence shield works as expected, with a low threshold at 75 keV, reducing the GeD background by a factor of 20. The digital …
