Cribado de alteraciones visuales (parte 1)

2014

Chemical partitioning and DNA fingerprinting of some pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) varieties of different geographical origin

2019

The genus Pistacia (Anacardiaceae family) is represented by several species, of which only P. vera L. produces edible seeds (pistachio). Despite the different flavor and taste, a correct identification of pistachio varieties based on the sole phenotypic character is sometimes hard to achieve. Here we used a combination of chemical partitioning and molecular fingerprinting for the unequivocal identification of commercial pistachio seed varieties (Bronte, Kern, Kerman, Larnaka, Mateur and Mawardi) of different geographical origin. The total phenolic content was higher in the variety Bronte followed by Larnaka and Mawardi cultivars. The total anthocyanin content was higher in Bronte and Larnak…

Non-cooperative available bandwidth estimation towards ADSL links

2008

Existing tools for the estimation of the end- to-end available bandwidth require control of both end hosts of the path and this significantly limits their usability. In this paper we present ABwProbe, a single-ended tool for available bandwidth estimation against non-cooperative hosts. Although ABwProbe is general enough to be used on any Internet path, we focus our attention on ADSL links exploring the possibility of measuring the downlink available bandwidth of a non-cooperative ADSL host. We study the effect of cross-traffic on the uplink, finding that only large packets may deteriorate ABwProbe's measurements and we present two techniques to detect and filter the effect of uplink cross-…

Capacity Estimation of ADSL links

2008

Most tools designed to estimate the capacity of an Internet path require access on both end hosts of the path, which makes them difficult to deploy and use. In this paper we present a single-sided technique for measuring the capacity without the active cooperation of the destination host, focusing particularly on ADSL links. Compared to current methods used on broadband hosts, our approach generates two orders of magnitude less traffic and is much less intrusive. Our tool, DSLprobe, exploits the typical characteristics of ADSL, namely its bandwidth asymmetry and the relatively low absolute bandwidth, in order to measure both downlink and uplink capacities and to mitigate the impact of cross…

Fast Available Bandwidth sampling for ADSL links: rethinking the estimation for larger-scale measurements

2009

Most existing tools for measuring the end-to-end available bandwidth require access to both end-hosts of the measured path, which severely restricts their usability. Few tools have been developed to overcome this limitation, but all of them focus on achieving high precision and are not suitable for large campaigns. In this paper we develop FAB-Probe , a tool aimed at characterizing the available bandwidth of a large number of paths, adapting it particularly for ADSL settings. FAB-Probe is an evolution of ABwProbe , a tool that estimates the available bandwidth in non-cooperative ADSL environments. Analyzing carefully the needs of such a characterization tool, we optimize and rethink ABwProb…

I risultat…

Authors report on forms and soil carbonate formation models as detected by 13C isotopes. This study was carried out in a clayey hilly area of central Sicily where soils have developed on evaporitic deposits of “Gessoso-Solfifera” Formation. Four pedons were selected both on calcareous and no calcareous lithotypes. Pedons were described in field and sampled according to sequence of genetic horizons. Soil samples were analyzed to investigate the following properties: particle size distribution reaction electrical conductivity gypsum organic and inorganic carbon. Moreover isotopic analyses were performed on organic and inorganic carbon. Results allow us to describe the complex relationships between biotic and abiotic soil components. In addition models of calcic horizon formation and their implication in soil classification were defined.Settore AGR/13 - Chimica Agraria

A new annual species of Bellium (Asteraceae) from the Balearic Islands

2007

A new species, Bellium artrutxensis (Asteraceae: Astereae), is described from the therophytic pastures of southern Minorca (Balearic Islands). The analysis of nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences showed that the new taxon was closely related to Bellium bellidioides , but differed with regard to the annual lifespan, the absence of epigeal stolons, and the presence of a patent eglandular indumentum on the leaves. The new taxon shows morphological features that are well suited for the colonization of dry environments with a marked summer drought, and may be of adaptive significance. The new species is diploid (2 n = 18) and shows up to two accessory chromosomes in root…

Pythium prolatumisolated from soil in the Burgundy region: a new record for Europe

1999

Pythium prolatum Hendrix and Campbell has been isolated from a soil sample taken in the Burgundy region in France. The fungus is easily recognisable by its heavily ornamented oogonia with conical to mammiform spines, elongated sporangia, and its diclinous antheridia forming or originating from a tangled mass of hyphae. Descriptions of the morphological and reproductive aspects of Pythium prolatum, the polymerase chain reaction of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS1) of the ribosomal nuclear DNA as well as the nucleotide sequences of ITS1 coding for 5.8 S rRNA are given.

A double mean field equation related to a curvature prescription problem

2019

We study a double mean field-type PDE related to a prescribed curvature problem on compacts surfaces with boundary. We provide a general blow-up analysis, then a Moser-Trudinger inequality, which gives energy-minimizing solutions for some range of parameters. Finally, we provide existence of min-max solutions for a wider range of parameters, which is dense in the plane if $$ is not simply connected.

Triatomine vectors of Trypanosoma cruzi: a molecular perspective based on nuclear ribosomal DNA markers.

2002

Chagas disease (American trypanosomiasis) is mainly transmitted by blood-sucking bugs of the reduviid subfamily Triatominae (Hemiptera: Prosorrhyncha). Control strategies are directed mainly against these insect vectors, as no vaccine is available and, except in the very early stage of infection, there is no effective chemotherapy. Studies of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) will lead to major advances in our knowledge of Triatominae and their relationships to Chagas disease transmission, epidemiology and control. Analyses of complete sequences of nuclear genes coding for ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA) (rRNA genes) and spacers furnish significant information at the levels of higher taxons, ge…
