El desarrollo humano sostenible: un compromiso educativo
2017
Sustainable Human Development (hereafter SHD) is taking shape as a proposal for progress in the face of a crisis in civilization so complex and far-reaching that it is considered quite difficult to solve. The aim of this article is to offer a reasoned justification of the evolution of the concept of development and of the need for an educational commitment to be able to make progress towards it. Although it is still polemical and the object of criticism, SHD has become consolidated as a strongly ethical proposal to lead the change in the course of development, transversally affecting its multiple dimensions and advocating interdisciplinary and intercultural cooperation and dialogue. The art…
A new marketing mix model to rescue the hospitality industry: Evidence from Egypt after the Arab Spring
2017
After January 25th 2011 Egypt witnessed political, economic and social instability leading to drastic consequences in the hospitality and tourism industry. Thus unstable situation reflected on the deteriorated occupancy percentages that led to declined profit margins, higher employee layoffs and degraded quality of product and services. The objectives of this research is to examine how the Egyptian hospitality properties manage this dilemma through their marketing practices, and to propose a new marketing mix model that adds new layers of depth to the traditional marketing mix model. A methodological framework was designed to help in the assessment process of management practices pertaining…
Biotic recovery after the end-Triassic extinction event: Evidence from marine bivalves of the Neuquén Basin, Argentina
2017
We analyze the Late Triassic extinction and Early Jurassic recovery of bivalve faunas within marine environments in the Atuel River area of the Neuquén Basin, Argentina. Data were collected from a hundred samples with invertebrates in a well-exposed uppermost Triassic to lower Jurassic section in the Neuquén Basin (southern Mendoza Province, Argentina) and allow a high-resolution reconstruction of the local diversity dynamics. The nearly continuous presence of marine stenohaline major taxa such as cnidarians, rhynchonelliform brachiopods, echinoderms and cephalopods indicates normal salinity throughout. All bivalve species were identified, and each occurrence was recorded in meters above th…
The response of Brent crude oil to the European central bank monetary policy
2022
A dynamic analysis of SP 500, FTSE 100 and EURO STOXX 50 indices under different exchange rates.
2018
In this study, we assess the dynamic evolution of short-term correlation, long-term cointe-gration and Error Correction Model (hereafter referred to as ECM)-based long-term Granger causality between each pair of US, UK, and Eurozone stock markets from 1980 to 2015 using the rolling-window technique. A comparative analysis of pairwise dynamic integration and causality of stock markets, measured in common and domestic currency terms, is conducted to evaluate comprehensively how exchange rate fluctuations affect the time-varying integration among the S&P 500, FTSE 100 and EURO STOXX 50 indices. The results obtained show that the dynamic correlation, cointegration and ECM-based long-run Gra…
Risk of scleroderma according to the type of immune checkpoint inhibitors
2020
Abstract Introduction Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are associated with immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Among them, ICIs-induced systemic sclerosis (SSc) is poorly known. Methods To better characterize this irAE, our comprehensive approach combined the description of ICIs-induced scleroderma cases, the systematic review of the literature and the analysis of VigiBase, the WHO pharmacovigilance database. Results We identified two cases with underlying limited cutaneous SSc who presented a dramatic increase in the skin thickening following pembrolizumab, associated with scleroderma renal crisis in one case. In the literature, four cases of scleroderma and four cases of morphea hav…
Lead isotopic fingerprint in human scalp hair: The case study of Iglesias mining district (Sardinia, Italy)
2017
The Sulcis-Iglesiente district (SW Sardinia, Italy) has been, until recently, one of the most important Italian polymetallic mining areas for the extraction of lead. Epidemiological studies conducted over several decades have indicated this site at high risk of environmental crisis with possible adverse effects on the public health. In the present paper we discuss Pb isotope signatures in human scalp hair and road dust collected from the Sulcis-Iglesiente area in order to trace the exposure of populations to potential Pb sources. A total of 23 determinations (20 on hair samples and 3 on road dust samples) of lead isotope ratios (206Pb/207Pb and 208Pb/206Pb) were carried out. The obtained re…
536. Internal and international mobility of Romanian immigrants during the crisis
2016
2012
In early 2012 the Sahel area in sub-Saharan Africa was facing shortage in food and millions of people were in risk of hunger. In my Bachelor´s thesis I´m investigating the coverage of the Sahel crisis of 2012 in two Finnish main media; the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat and the online news of Finnish broadcasting company Yle (http://yle.fi/uutiset/). My data was collected between January and September in 2012 and it consisted fifteen different articles. My research method was critical discourse analysis through which I hoped to bring out the hidden structures of the texts and also to see what kind of so-called sahelian reality the writer was describing. My main research questions were: How is …
