Enhanced porosity in a new 3D Hofmann-like network exhibiting humidity sensitive cooperative spin transitions at room temperature

The porous coordination polymers (PCPs) of general formula {Fe(bpac)[M(CN)4]}·guest (M = Pt, Pd) exhibit larger channels than previously synthesised 3D-Hofmann-like PCP. The channels are partially occupied by uncoordinated guest bpac ligands and labile H2O molecules. These PCPs exhibit very scarce cooperative spin crossover behaviour around room temperature with a large hysteresis loop (up to 49 K) and also display sensitivity to humidity and guest molecules. The inclusion of bpac molecules in the 3D network can be avoided by adding competitive volatile molecules during the crystallization process, affording the guest-free material. Template induced crystallization of biominerals on self-assembled monolayers of alkylthiols

Abstract We have studied the templated crystallization of the three polymorphs of calcium carbonate on self-assembled monolayers of ω -substituted alkylthiols on gold surfaces. Our interest has been to model biomineralization processes by examining the effect of structured organic templates on heterogeneous nucleation at the inorganic–organic interphase. The crystallization of the three polymorphs was carried out from solution at two different temperatures. The crystals that were formed on the surface were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Controlling and understanding the mechanisms that harness crystallization processes is of utmost importance in contemporary materials science and, in particular, in the realm of reticular solids where it still remains a great challenge. In this work, we show that environments mimicking microgravity conditions can harness the size and shape of functional biogenic crystals such as peptide-based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Little is known concerning the pathway of the crystallization of the thermodynamically stable polymorph of theophylline, form IV. Here we study the reasons why the thermodynamically stable theophylline form IV can be obtained only by slow, solvent mediated phase transformation (SMPT) in specific solvents, and whether the presence of prenucleation aggregates affect the polymorphic outcome. Solution concentration, polymorphic composition and morphology were monitored over time during the transformation from form II to form IV in several solvents. Abstract The effect of the addition of alkali ions to commercial amorphous silica, generally used as support for heterogeneous catalysts, has been investigated from the point of view of morphological and structural changes. Samples of alkali-doped silica were prepared by impregnation and subsequent calcination at various temperatures. The structural effect of Li, Na, K, and Cs was determined by use of techniques such as wide-angle (WAXS) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). Metallophilic interactions in stacked dinuclear rhodium 2,2'-biimidazole carbonyl complexes

Non-covalent metallophilic interactions were studied by investigating the stacking of two neutral rhodium complexes [Rh2I(R2bim)Cl2(CO)4] (R = Et, ethyl or Pr, propyl) in the solid state. Both dinuclear complexes formed infinite arrays of square planar d8 rhodium centres with intramolecular Rh⋯Rh distances of 3.1781(5) A (R = Et) and 3.1469(3) A (R = Pr) and the intermolecular Rh⋯Rh distances of 3.4345(6) A (R = Et) and 3.4403(3) A (R = Pr) between the adjacent molecules. Arylazopyrazole derivatives based on four core structures (4pzMe, 3pzH, 4pzH, and 4pzH-F2) and functionalized with a dodecanoate group were demonstrated to store thermal energy in their metastable Z isomer liquid phase and release the energy by optically triggered crystallization at -30 °C for the first time. Three heat storage-release schemes were discovered involving different activation methods (optical, thermal, or combined) for generating liquid-state Z isomers capable of storing thermal energy.
