Il X20 è uno dei cubicoli più rilevanti della galleria X. Consiste in una camera funeraria quadrangolare di m 8 (E-O) x 5 (N-S), preceduta da un dromos quadrato di m 1,80 x 1,80 e derivata da un preesistente arcosolio bisomo. La camera accoglie in tutto ventinove sepolture: dodici arcosoli sia per adulti che per bambini, una tomba a nicchia, due tombe a cassa e quattordici formae. I dati archeologici e gli esiti dell’analisi strutturale hanno permesso di accertare che l’attuale aspetto del cubicolo è il risultato di quattro fasi costruttive. The cubicle X10 is a privileged burial space in the south-eastern area of the Early Christian catacomb of Villagrazia di Carini. The archaeological investigations carried out from 2004 to 2007 have completely brought to the light the burial chamber, which hosts thirty-eight burials, some of which, reserved for children, are richly frescoed. In addition to the s.c. “habitat paradisiaco” (the rapresentation of the Heaven like a garden) and to the portraits of the deads, in this cubicle recurs twice the Adoration of the Magi, whose theological implications in the controversy against the Arian heresy have been analyzed by Rosa Maria Bonacasa Carra. Catacomba di Villagrazia di Carini. La galleria XII: indagini archeologiche e problemi della conservazione

The archaeological research in the southeastern area of the Early Christian catacombs of Villagrazia di Carini has been ongoing since 2000 to the present, but in 2014 the structural problems occurred during the excavation of the cubicles X13 and X15 have showed that this sector of the cemetery was cut into a tuff stone bench less compact and durable than the rest of the catacomb. Similarly, the excavation in the corridor XII has provided new informations about the serious effects of the physico-chemical changes that occurred here, over the centuries, by the action of the environmental factors and the continued infiltrations of water from the above ground.
