Anthocyanin profile and antioxidant activity of freshly squeezed pomegranate (Punica Granatum L.) Juices of sicilian and Spanish provenances
2016
Pomegranate (Punica granatum L., Punicaceae) fruit is traditionally consumed in several countries, especially in Middle East, and has gained increasing popularity all over the world due to its assumed health benefits. Juices derived from the arils of the seeds were shown to be rich in anthocyanin glucosides, typically composed of cyanidin, delphinidin, and pelargonidin. The aim of the present study was the characterization of diverse Sicilian and Spanish pomegranate accessions regarding their anthocyanin and total polyphenol contents using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent. The anthocyanin profiles were determined by HPLC-DAD and LC-MS, and color parameters were characterized using the CIELAB coo…
Root hydraulic conductivity in three self-rooted and grafted table grape cultivars
2012

Aim: Root hydraulic conductivity is one of the main factors that control water flow in the soil-plant system and ultimately affect crop irrigation requirements. This work sets out to estimate root water conductivity for three self-rooted or grafted table grape cultivars.

Methods and results: We evaluated root water conductivity of the cultivars ‘Black Magic’, ‘Matilde’ and ‘Victoria’ grafted onto 1103 Paulsen rootstock or self-rooted. Measurements were performed on two-year-old table grapes grown in pots filled with pumice. Root water conductivity wa…
Development of herbicide-resistant varieties of foxtail millet
2012
International audience; Developing herbicide resistance in forsaken small crops could be a way to maintain food and cultivation system diversity, otherwise they would disappear due to the impossibility or cost to control the weeds. It is the case with foxtail millet, Setaria italica, a small grain, preferentially autogamous, C4 cereal. Three different herbicide-resistant materials were developed using wild germplasm resources. They allowed: 1) to better characterize the resistance mechanisms and inheritance; 2) provide plant materials to test the efficiency of the crop resistance at field level; and 3) experiment on the possible flow back of the resistance gene to the wild relative and amon…
