A Study of the Influence of Shadowing on the Statistical Properties of the Capacity of Mobile Radio Channels
2008
Article from the journal: Wireless Personal Communications The original publication is available at www.springerlink.com : http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11277-008-9545-7 This paper studies the influence of shadowing on the statistical properties of the channel capacity. The problem is addressed by using a Suzuki process as an appropriate statistical channel model for land mobile terrestrial channels. Using this model, exact solutions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the channel capacity are derived. The results are studied for different levels of shadowing, corresponding to diff…
Capacity studies of spatially correlated MIMO Rice channels
2010
In this paper, we have studied the statistical properties of the capacity of spatially correlated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Rice channels. We have derived an exact closed-form expression for the probability density function (PDF) and an exact expression for the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the channel capacity for single-input multiple-output (SIMO) and multiple-input single-output (MISO) systems. Furthermore, an accurate closed-form expression has been derived for the level-crossing rate (LCR) and an accurate expression has been obtained for the average duration of fades (ADF) of the SIMO and MISO channel capacities. For the MIMO case, we have investigated the PDF,…
Statistical properties of the capacity of Rice channels with MRC and EGC
2009
In this paper, we have studied the statistical properties of the capacity of Rice channels for both maximal ratio combining (MRC) and equal gain combining (EGC) schemes. We have analyzed the effect of the number of diversity branches and the amplitude of the line-of-sight (LOS) components in the diversity branches on the statistics of the channel capacity. Specifically, we have derived analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the capacity of Rice channels when using MRC and EGC. It is observed that if the number of diversity branches or the amplitude of the LOS…
Dynamic Shakedown Sensitivity Analysis by Means of a Probabilistic Approach
2017
The shakedown limit load multiplier problem for elastic plastic structures subjected to a combination of fixed and seismic loads is treated. In particular, reference is firstly made to the unrestricted dynamic shakedown theory. The relevant seismic load history is modeled as a repeated one and, with reference to classically damped structures, appropriate modal analyses are utilized. With the aim of evaluating the reliability of the results arising from the application of the cited theory, a recent probabilistic approach is also utilized. This approach adopts the Monte Carlo method in order to define the necessary seismic acceleration histories and finally compute the related shakedown limit…
The elasticity of a random variable as a tool for measuring and assessing risks
2022
Elasticity is a very popular concept in economics and physics, recently exported and reinterpreted in the statistical field, where it has given form to the so-called elasticity function. This function has proved to be a very useful tool for quantifying and evaluating risks, with applications in disciplines as varied as public health and financial risk management. In this study, we consider the elasticity function in random terms, defining its probability distribution, which allows us to measure for each stochastic process the probability of finding elastic or inelastic situations (i.e., with elasticities greater or less than 1). This new tool, together with new results on the most notable p…
A Power Law Behavior in the Incentivized Italian Photovoltaic Market
2018
The Italian photovoltaic (PV) marketis analyzed by using the data contained in the database that describes all PV Plants installed in Italy under the incentive program called “2nd Conto Energia”. It is shown that the cumulative probability distribution of the size of the installed PV plants has a broken power tail. An approach to partially quantify the effect of the economic, juridical and technical rules is introduced in order to show how the regulatory body influences the power tail of the cumulative probability curve.
On probabilistic interpretations of predicates
2016
In classical logic, any m-ary predicate is interpreted as an m-argument two-valued relation defined on a non-empty universe. In probability theory, m-ary predicates are interpreted as probability measures on the mth power of a probability space. m-ary probabilistic predicates are equivalently semantically characterized as m-dimensional cumulative distribution functions defined on Rm. The paper is mainly concerned with probabilistic interpretations of unary predicates in the algebra of cumulative distribution functions defined on R. This algebra, enriched with two constants, forms a bounded De Morgan algebra. Two logical systems based on the algebra of cumulative distributions are defined an…
Stationary and Nontationary Response Probability Density Function of a Beam under Poisson White Noise
2011
In this paper an approximate explicit probability density function for the analysis of external oscillations of a linear and geometric nonlinear simply supported beam driven by random pulses is proposed. The adopted impulsive loading model is the Poisson White Noise , that is a process having Dirac’s delta occurrences with random intensity distributed in time according to Poisson’s law. The response probability density function can be obtained solving the related Kolmogorov-Feller (KF) integro-differential equation. An approximated solution, using path integral method, is derived transforming the KF equation to a first order partial differential equation. The method of characteristic is the…
