Infections of the Central Nervous System after Unrelated Donor Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation or Human Leukocyte Antigen–Matched Sibling Transp…

2016

We analyzed the incidence, clinical characteristics, prognostic factors, and outcome of central nervous system (CNS) infections in consecutive patients with receiving umbilical cord blood transplantation (UCBT) (n = 343) or HLA-matched sibling donor stem cell transplantation (MST) (n = 366). Thirty-four CNS infections were documented at a median time of 116 days after transplantation (range, 7 to 1161). The cumulative incidence (CI) risk of developing a CNS infection was .6% at day +30, 2.3% at day +90, and 4.9% at 5 years. The 5-year CI of CNS infection was 8.2% after UCBT and 1.7% after MST (P  .001). The causative micro-organisms of CNS infections were fungi (35%), virus (32%), Toxoplasm…

Prospective Randomized Study Comparing Myeloablative Unrelated Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation versus HLA-Haploidentical Related Stem Cell Trans…

2020

In this prospective randomized study, we compared the outcomes of single-unit umbilical cord blood transplantation (UCBT) and unmanipulated haploidentical stem cell transplantation (haplo-SCT) with post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCy) in adults with hematologic malignancies. All patients received a myeloablative conditioning (MAC) regimen consisting of thiotepa, busulfan, and fludarabine, with antithymocyte globulin (ATG) added for UCBT recipients. Nineteen patients were randomized to UCBT and the other 26 to haplo-HSCT. Four patients (15%) allocated to the haplo-HSCT arm lacked a suitable donor and were crossed over to the UCBT arm. Finally, 23 underwent UCBT and 22 underwent haplo…

Renal function and attributable risk of death and cardiovascular hospitalization in participants with diabetes from a registry-based cohort

2021

Abstract Aims To estimate the attributable risk of renal function on all-cause mortality and cardiovascular hospitalization in patients with diabetes. Methods A prospective cohort study in 19,469 adults with diabetes, free of cardiovascular disease, attending primary care in Spain (2008–2011). The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and other variables were collected and patients were followed to the first hospitalization for coronary or stroke event, or death, until the end of 2012. The cumulative incidence of the study endpoints by eGFR categories was graphically displayed and adjusted population attributable risks (PARs) for low eGFR was calculated. Results Mean follow-up was 3.2…

Cytomegalovirus DNA load monitoring in stool specimens for anticipating the occurrence of intestinal acute graft‐versus‐host disease following alloge…

2020

Background Data have been published suggesting a bidirectional interaction between cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and acute graft-versus-host disease (aGvHD) in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (allo-HSCT) recipients. Here, we hypothesized that prospective CMV DNA monitoring in stool specimens may be useful for predicting subsequent occurrence of intestinal aGvHD (IaGvHD). Methods This two-center study enrolled 121 consecutive adult patients undergoing any modality of allo-HSCT. A total of 1,009 stool specimens were collected (a median of 7 specimens/patient; range, 1-18). CMV DNA monitoring in stools and plasma was performed using real-time PCR assays. Results CMV DNA was det…

Social–ecological connections across land, water, and sea demand a reprioritization of environmental management

2022

International audience; Despite many sectors of society striving for sustainability in environmental management, humans often fail to identify and act on the connections and processes responsible for social-ecological tipping points. Part of the problem is the fracturing of environmental management and social-ecological research into ecosystem domains (land, freshwater, and sea), each with different scales and resolution of data acquisition and distinct management approaches. We present a perspective on the social-ecological connections across ecosystem domains that emphasize the need for management reprioritization to effectively connect these domains. We identify critical nexus points rel…

Impact of preoperative risk on metastatic progression and cancer-specific mortality in patients with adverse pathology at radical prostatectomy.

2017

Objective To evaluate the impact of preoperative risk category on metastatic disease and prostate cancer-specific mortality (CSM) in patients with prostate cancer (PCa) with adverse pathology at radical prostatectomy (RP). Patients and Methods The records of 6 943 patients who underwent RP at a European tertiary centre were analysed. Biochemical recurrence (BCR), metastatic disease and CSM were assessed for patients with adverse pathology at RP, and stratified according to preoperative low- vs intermediate-/high-risk PCa groups. Kaplan–Meier, cumulative incidence, Cox regression and competing risk regression analyses were performed. Results In patients with extracapsular extension, the meta…

On the Statistical Properties of Capacity Outage Intervals in OSTBC-MIMO Rayleigh Fading Channels

2016

This paper deals mainly with the study of the asymptotic probability density functions (PDFs) of the outage durations of the instantaneous capacity of orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems over Rayleigh channels. Drawing upon known statistical properties for the asymptotic behavior of chi-squared processes at low levels, we provide approximate solutions for the PDF, the cumulative distribution function (CDF), and the $k$ th-order moments of the outage intervals of the underlying capacity processes. Then, as an application of the derived PDF, the performance assessment of capacity simulators is reported. Following this, we introduce the newly …

Exact Closed-Form Expressions for the Distribution, the Level-Crossing Rate, and the Average Duration of Fades of the Capacity of OSTBC-MIMO Channels

2009

Article from the journal: IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology Official site: http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/TVT.2008.927038 This paper deals with some important statistical properties of the channel capacity of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems with orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) transmission. We assume that all the subchannels are uncorrelated. For OSTBC-MIMO systems, exact closed-form expressions are derived for the probability density function (PDF), the cumulative distribution function (CDF), the level-crossing rate (LCR), and the average duration of fades (ADF) of the channel capacity. Furthermore, it will be shown that these exact closed-form expressions can be …

The Influence of Spatial Correlation and Severity of Fading on the Statistical Properties of the Capacity of OSTBC Nakagami-m MIMO Channels

2009

This paper deals with the analysis of statistical prop- erties of the capacity of spatially uncorrelated orthogonal space- time block coded (OSTBC) Nakagami-m multiple-input multiple- output (MIMO) channels. We have derived exact closed-form expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumula- tive distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the channel capacity. We have also investigated the statistical properties of the approximated capacity of spatially correlated OSTBC Nakagami-m MIMO channels. The results are studied for different values of the fading parameter m, corresponding to different fading conditions. It is observed …
