Effects of the axial isoscalar neutral current for solar neutrino detection
1992
Abstract An essential assumption in the analysis of all the large solar neutrino experiments sensitive to neutral currents has been that the axial transitions are purely isovector. The recent results on the spin structure of the proton suggest the presence of an axial isoscalar neutral-current interaction. This would modify the assumed transition strengths for the neutral-current detection of solar neutrinos. We demonstrate that in the long wavelength limit a deuterium target is insensitive to such a mechanism. Our results for the situation of the planned BOREX experiment show that the suggested isoscalar strength would increase the observed rate by 30–40%, depending on the transition.
Effects of Strong and Electromagnetic Correlations on Neutrino Interactions in Dense Matter
1998
An extensive study of the effects of correlations on both charged and neutral current weak interaction rates in dense matter is performed. Both strong and electromagnetic correlations are considered. The propagation of particle-hole interactions in the medium plays an important role in determining the neutrino mean free paths. The effects due to Pauli-Blocking and density, spin, and isospin correlations in the medium significantly reduce the neutrino cross sections. Due to the lack of experimental information at high density, these correlations are necessarily model dependent. For example, spin correlations in nonrelativistic models are found to lead to larger suppressions of neutrino cross …
Effects of non-standard neutrino-electron interactions on relic neutrino decoupling
2006
We consider the decoupling of neutrinos in the early Universe in presence of non-standard neutral current neutrino-electron interactions (NSI). We first discuss a semi-analytical approach to solve the relevant kinetic equations and then present the results of fully numerical and momentum-dependent calculations, including flavor neutrino oscillations. We present our results in terms of both the effective number of neutrino species (N_eff) and the impact on the abundance of He-4 produced during Big Bang Nucleosynthesis. We find that, for NSI parameters within the ranges allowed by present laboratory data, non-standard neutrino-electron interactions do not essentially modify the density of rel…
Problems with the Breitenlohner-Maison γ5-scheme in flavour changing neutral currents
1991
Abstract We calculate the flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) decay Z → Q q at one-loop order using two different γ 5 -prescriptions, namely the Breitenlohner-Maison-'t Hooft-Veltman (BM) γ 5 -scheme and a naively anticommuting γ 5 . The results obtained in the two schemes differ from one another. The BM γ 5 -scheme calculation violates the conventional Ward identity relating the Z → Q q and the unphysical scalar φ z → Q q proper vertices which the naive γ 5 -calculation satisfies. Hence, we conclude that it is incorrect to naively apply the BM γ 5 -scheme if the standard model is renormalized on-shell.
Neutrino electron scattering and left-right symmetry: future tests
1998
Low-energy high-resolution neutrino-electron scattering experiments may play an important role in testing the gauge structure of the electroweak interaction. We propose the use of radioactive neutrino sources (e.g. $^{51}$Cr) in underground experiments such as BOREXINO and HELLAZ as a probe of the weak neutral current structure. As an illustration, we display the sensitivity of these detectors in testing the possible existence of right-handed weak neutral currents.
Inclusive and exclusive neutrino-nucleus cross sections and the reconstruction of the interaction kinematics
2021
Abstract We present a full kinematic analysis of neutrino-nucleus charged current quasielastic interactions based on the Local Fermi Gas model and the Random Phase Approximation. The model was implemented in the NEUT Monte Carlo framework, which allows us to investigate potentially measurable observables, including hadron distributions. We compare the predictions simultaneously to the most recent T2K and MINERvA charged current (CC) inclusive, CC0π and transverse kinematic-imbalance variable results. We pursuit a microscopic interpretation of the relevant reaction mechanisms, with the aim to achieving in neutrino oscillation experiments a correct reconstruction of the incoming neutrino kine…
Charged current neutrino-induced coherent pion production
2007
We analyze the neutrino induced charged current coherent pion production at the energies of interest for recent experiments like K2K and MiniBooNE. Medium effects in the production mechanism and the distortion of the pion wave function, obtained solving the Klein Gordon equation with a microscopic optical potential, are included in the calculation. We find a strong reduction of the cross section due to these effects and also substantial modifications of the energy distributions of the final lepton and pion.
Neutral current coherent pion production
2007
We investigate the neutrino induced coherent pion production reaction at low and intermediate energies. The model includes pion, nucleon and Delta(1232) resonance as the relevant hadronic degrees of freedom. Nuclear medium effects on the production mechanisms and pion distortion are taken into account. We obtain that the dominance of the Delta excitation holds due to large cancellations among the background contributions. We consider two sets of vector and axial-vector N-Delta transition form-factors, evidencing the strong sensitivity of the results to the axial coupling C5A(0). The differences between neutrino and antineutrino cross sections, emerging from interference terms, are also disc…
Neutrino Induced Charged Current 1$\pi^+$ Production At Intermediate Energies
2006
The charged current one pion production induced by $\nu_\mu$ from nucleons and nuclei like $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O nuclei has been studied. The calculations have been done for the incoherent and the coherent processes from nuclear targets assuming the $\Delta$ dominance model and take into account the effect of Pauli blocking, Fermi motion of the nucleon and renormalization of $\Delta$ properties in a nuclear medium. The effect of final state interactions of pions has been taken into account. The theoretical uncertainty in the total cross sections due to various parameterizations of the weak transition form factors used in literature has been studied. The numerical results for the total cross…
Nuclear effects on lepton polarization in charged-current quasielastic neutrino scattering
2006
We use a correlated local Fermi gas (LFG) model, which accounts also for long distance corrections of the RPA type and final-state interactions, to compute the polarization of the final lepton in charged-current quasielastic neutrino scattering. The present model has been successfully used in recent studies of inclusive neutrino nucleus processes and muon capture. We investigate the relevance of nuclear effects in the particular case of $\tau$ polarization in tau-neutrino induced reactions for several kinematics of relevance for neutrino oscillation experiments.
