Recent Developments in Neutrino/Antineutrino-Nucleus Interactions
2012
Recent experimental results and developments in the theoretical treatment of neutrino-nucleus interactions in the energy range of 1–10 GeV are discussed. Difficulties in extracting neutrino-nucleon cross sections from neutrino-nucleus scattering data are explained and significance of understanding nuclear effects for neutrino oscillation experiments is stressed. Detailed discussions of the status of two-body current contribution in the kinematic region dominated by quasielastic scattering and specific features of partonic nuclear effects in weak DIS scattering are presented.
The nucleon axial mass and the MiniBooNE quasielastic neutrino-nucleus scattering problem
2011
The charged-current double differential neutrino cross section, measured by the MiniBooNE Collaboration, has been analyzed using a microscopical model that accounts for, among other nuclear effects, long range nuclear (RPA) correlations and multinucleon scattering. We find that MiniBooNE data are fully compatible with the world average of the nucleon axial mass in contrast with several previous analyses which have suggested an anomalously large value. We also discuss the reliability of the algorithm used to estimate the neutrino energy.
Is a low-mass Z° in general SU (2) ⊗ U (1) gauge theories compatible with experiment?
1975
Abstract It is shown that any simple SU (2) ⊗ U (1) gauge theory with a Z° mass much lower than the W ± mass leads to serious conflicts with experiment. The case of deep inelastic neutral current reactions is discussed in greater detail.
Constraining neutrino oscillation parameters with current solar and atmospheric data
2002
We analyze the impact of recent solar, atmospheric and reactor data in the determination of the neutrino oscillation parameters, taking into account that both the solar nu_e and the atmospheric nu_mu may convert to a mixture of active and sterile neutrinos. We use the most recent global solar neutrino data, including the 1496-day Super-K neutrino data sample, and we investigate in detail the impact of the SNO neutral current, spectral and day/night data by performing also an analysis using only the charged current rate from SNO. The implications of the first 145.1 days of KamLAND data on the determination of the solar neutrino parameters are also discussed in detail. We confirm the clear pr…
A study of strange particle production in nu(mu) charged current interactions in the NOMAD experiment
2001
A study of strange particle production in $\nu_\mu$ charged current interactions has been performed using the data from the NOMAD experiment. Yields of neutral strange particles ($K^0_s, \Lambda, \bar{\Lambda}$) have been measured. Mean multiplicities are reported as a function of the event kinematic variables $E_\nu$, $W^2$ and $Q^2$ as well as of the variables describing particle behaviour within a hadronic jet: $x_F$, $z$ and $p_T^2$. Decays of resonances and heavy hyperons with identified $K^0_s$ and $\Lambda$ in the final state have been analyzed. Clear signals corresponding to $\rm {K^\star}^\pm$ $\rm {\Sigma^\star}^\pm$, $\rm \Xi^-$ and $\rm \Sigma^0$ have been observed. A study of s…
Status of three-neutrino oscillations after the SNO-salt data
2003
We perform a global analysis of neutrino oscillation data in the framework of three neutrinos, including the recent improved measurement of the neutral current events at SNO. In addition to all current solar neutrino data we take into account the reactor neutrino data from KamLAND and CHOOZ, the atmospheric neutrino data from Super-Kamiokande and MACRO, as well as the first spectral data from the K2K long baseline accelerator experiment. The up-to-date best fit values and allowed ranges of the three-flavour oscillation parameters are determined from these data. Furthermore, we discuss in detail the status of the small parameters alpha = Delta_m^2_Sol / Delta_m^2_Atm and sin^2(theta_13), whi…
Charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering off 95,97^Mo
2013
Background: Reliable cross sections for the neutrino-nucleus scattering off relevant nuclei for supernova neutrinos are essential for various applications in neutrino physics and astrophysics (e.g., supernova mechanisms). Studies of the nuclear responses for the stable molybdenum isotopes are of great interest for the planned MOON (Mo Observatory of Neutrinos) experiment.Purpose: The purpose of the present work is, thus, to perform a detailed study of the charged-current nuclear responses to supernova neutrinos for the stable odd molybdenum isotopes. A special effort will be devoted to discuss in detail the structures of the most relevant final states in the corresponding proton-odd nucleus…
Even harmonics generation in plasma as a new tool of current evolution diagnostics
2005
It is shown that using even harmonics of a test wave it is possible to diagnose the fast time evolution of the current density.
Pion Exchange Current Effects in ν μ + d → μ − +p + p
1986
The effect of pion exchange currents in the process νμ + d → μ− +p + p is estimated using realistic wave functions for the deuteron and closure over the final dinucleon states. Its implications on the determination of axial vector form factor FA(q2) are discussed.
Pion exchange current effects inv ? +d??? +p+p
1986
The differential cross sectiondσ/dq2 for the processvμ+d→μ−+p+p is studied using realistic deuteron wave functions and closure over the dinucleon states. The effect of meson exchange currents is estimated using one-pion exchange diagrams in the static limit. Implications of our present results on the determination ofFA(q2) from neutrinodeuteron reaction experiments are discussed.
