Mechanical and electrical behavior of human muscle during maximal concentric and eccentric contractions

The force-velocity relationships of human muscle (e.g., Asmussen, Hansen, and Lammert, 1965; Komi, 1973a) characterize the main mechanical differences in concentric and eccentric work. Some information also has been reported on the interrelationship between neural input and mechanical output during submaximal concentric and eccentric contractions. The slope of the regression line representing the relationship between IEMG and muscle tension is greater when muscle shortens at a constant velocity than when it lengthens at the same velocity (Bigland and Lippold, 1954). Equivariance in topological gravity

Abstract We present models of topological gravity for a variety of moduli space conditions. In four dimensions, we construct a model for self-dual gravity characterized by the moduli condition R + μν =0, and in two dimensions we treat the case of constant scalar curvature. Details are also given for both flat and Yang-Mills type moduli conditions in arbitrary dimensions. All models are based on the same fundamental multiplet which conveniently affords the construction of a complete hierarchy of observables. Studies of inelastic cross-section in Rb(7S) + Rb(5S) collisions

The cross section σ = (8 ± 4) × 10−15 cm2 was determined for the Rb(7S) + Rb(5S) → Rb(5D) + Rb(5S) excitation energy transfer process, and the quenching cross section σq = (2 ± 1) × 10−14 cm2 for the Rb(5D) state in collisions with ground state Rb atoms. Applying rubidium quasimolecular asymptotic potential curves at relatively large internuclear distances, a qualitative interpretation of the experimental results is presented. It is shown that the quenching of the Rb(5D) atoms in collisions may be explained by a reversed energy pooling process Rb(5D) + Rb(5S) → Rb(5P) + Rb(5P).

Rotational States of the Helium Trimer in the Symmetry-Adapted Hyperradial-Adiabatic Approach

We have searched for bound rotationally excited states of the helium trimer using the symmetry-adapted hyperradial adiabatic approach. Since the calculated J p = 2+ and J p = 1− potential curves are both completely repulsive, we infer that there are no bound rotational states of 4He3. A recent adiabatic calculation [1] based on the direct solution of the Coriolis-coupled Schrodinger equation agrees with this conclusion.
Uniform estimates for the X-ray transform restricted to polynomial curves

We establish near-optimal mixed-norm estimates for the X-ray transform restricted to polynomial curves with a weight that is a power of the affine arclength. The bounds that we establish depend only on the spatial dimension and the degree of the polynomial. Some of our results are new even in the well-curved case.

Investigation of Inspiratory Pressure-Volume Curves on Mechanically Ventilated Patients Using Least Square Polynomial Fit

Abstract An on-line method for the registration of pressure volume 1 oops TrT mechanically ventilated patients was developed using a personal computer with analog/digital interface. A third order polynomial function was fitted to the measured inspiratory pressure volume pairs. The significance of the fitting procedure was calculated using regression ANOVA. The inflection point of the pressure-volume curve was determinated by calculating the root of the second derivative of the polynomial. The method was teseted on 20 patients without major pulmonary dysfunction and on 6 patients with severe ARDS.
Identification of electroactive sites in Prussian Yellow films

Abstract Prussian Blue films were electrogenerated on the surface of the transparent ITO electrodes. The electrochemical oxidation to the Prussian Yellow form was investigated by means of in situ voltammetry and vis–NIR spectroscopic techniques. Changes of the whole spectra between 400 and 950 nm were analyzed and three characteristic wavelengths were selected to in situ follow the electrochemical changes of the films. Voltammetric peaks and absorbance derivative curves at these three wavelengths were deconvoluted and were interpreted such as the overlapping of different electrochemical processes.
