Goodwill and Criteria for its Recognition in Financial Statements

2004

The article summarises a research on goodwill which is one of the most controversial assets. The research includes a comparison between the descriptions of the economic nature of goodwill and an analysis of various valuation methods and accounting policies. The article discusses the internationally recognised problem that there coexist several accepted methods of accounting for goodwill arising from the acquisition of an enterprise, as a result of which the accountancy data of different enterprises and countries are incomparable.

Effect of customer heterogeneity on the relationship satisfaction–loyalty

2014

Abstract The need to study the differences among consumers due to their behavioural heterogeneity and the highly competitive consumer markets is recognized. In this paper, we analyse the potential heterogeneous shopping assessment in retail and how that experience may influence on consequent customer loyalty in a different way. The effects of satisfaction on attitudinal and behavioural loyalty and positive word of mouth are estimated by a finite-mixture structural equation model, and unobserved heterogeneity is analysed simultaneously. The results show that there are three latent segments where the strength of causal relationships differs which mean that there is an overestimation of the im…

Consumer-Generated Reviews on Social Media and Brand Relationship Outcomes in the Fast-Food Chain Industry

2017

A number of studies agree on the fact that social media users tend to trust more the contents created by other users than those generated by companies’ marketing departments or advertising agencies. However, little is known regarding whether social media can actually enhance brand trust and other brand relationship outcomes that are deemed critical to the hospitality marketing literature. This paper seeks to offer some important insight on this issue by examining the impact of consumer-generated reviews on social media on four main pillars of the relationship marketing paradigm, i.e., satisfaction, trust, commitment, and loyalty. The inter-relationship between brand outcomes is also examine…

The effects of perceived value, satisfaction, and advertising on share of wallet and word of mouth in a retailing context

2016

Customer loyalty as a topic has been of interest to managers and researchers for several decades. There are a few antecedents for explaining customer loyalty in marketing literature, and researchers have discussed the consequences of loyalty. The reason for interest toward loyalty is the wide assumption that loyal customers have higher retention rates, they buy more, and are more willing to share by word of mouth (WOM) and electronic WOM (eWOM). This is why loyalty is linked to companies' financial performance. The aim of this study was to investigate perceived value (PEVA) and customer satisfaction as the antecedents of loyalty outcomes, such as share of wallet (SOW) and WOM in a retailing…

The effects of brand engagement in social media on share of wallet

2015

Customer engagement and share‐of‐wallet (SOW) are relatively new in the marketing literature, and academic research has only limitedly examined these concepts. This study presents five motivational drivers of customer brand engagement in social media and examines the nature of the relationship between these drivers and engagement. The moderation effect of consumer innovativeness on the relationship between engagement and SOW is also examined. Results suggest that community exerts the strongest positive effect on customer brand engagement and that such engagement positively influences SOW. The findings also indicate that consumer innovativeness strengthens the relationship between engagement…

Employee Satisfaction Measurement – Part of Internal Marketing

2012

Since 1980 service companies have realized that standards and technology are essential for the successful implementing of the adopted strategy, but not enough. Without employees with the proper attitude, knowledge and skills, strategy can not generate the desired results. Great service companies highlight that employees (front-line employees) are responsible for the implementation of the service strategy, their satisfaction and loyalty having a direct and strong influence on the satisfaction and loyalty of the customers. In this context, this paper aims to highlight the importance of employees in delivering reliable services, as well as how to measure employee satisfaction levels. Regarding…

Enabling Sociability When Using Virtual Reality Applications : A Design Science Research Approach

2019

Immersive virtual reality applications aim at providing an all-encompassing spatial experience where a user can feel like being in another world or dimension. The systems are inherently designed for individual use as the devices disconnect the user from the physical environment. However, the applications are seldom used alone. Specifically, when used for sales and marketing, the user often needs help from other people but also benefits from social interaction as a part of the experience. Design research methodology is applied to three iterative development versions of a virtual-reality application. The focus of the evaluation of the artifacts is in the social use emphasizing three sociabili…

Effects of Client Pressure and Audit Firm Management Control Systems on Auditor Judgments

2015

We examine the effects of pressures from client management and the audit firm’s own management control systems (MCS) on auditors’ willingness to accept an aggressive accounting that is preferred by client management. We find that auditors perceiving more pressure from client management to accept the client’s aggressive accounting react by increasing the size of the proposed adjustment needed to bring the client’s accounting into conformity with GAAP. However, we find that when client management promotes the jointness of interests they share with the auditor or the audit firm’s MCS focuses the auditor more on client service quality the auditor experiences increased affinity for the client an…

How Do QR Codes Enhance Customer Experience? : Omnichannel Customer Experiences in a Brick-and-Mortar Fashion Store

2023

In this qualitative study, we investigate how customers perceive QR codes enhancing their customer experience (CX) in the brick-and-mortar (B&M) store environment. Introducing QR codes to B&M stores is a part of the larger phenomenon of retailers creating omnichannel CXs by utilizing digital and cyber-physical elements in B&M stores. To collect data from real customers’ CXs, we displayed QR codes in a Finnish fashion brand’s B&M store and interviewed customers who had authentically visited the store. The QR codes displayed in the store were linked to a product information page on the brand’s online store, a brand ambassador’s Instagram posts, and an online survey. The data consist of 15 ind…
