Lower and upper bounds for the mixed capacitated arc routing problem

2006

This paper presents a linear formulation, valid inequalities, and a lower bounding procedure for the mixed capacitated arc routing problem (MCARP). Moreover, three constructive heuristics and a memetic algorithm are described. Lower and upper bounds have been compared on two sets of randomly generated instances. Computational results show that the average gaps between lower and upper bounds are 0.51% and 0.33%, respectively.

Advanced Scatter Search for the Max-Cut Problem

2009

The max-cut problem consists of finding a partition of the nodes of a weighted graph into two subsets such that the sum of the weights on the arcs connecting the two subsets is maximized. This is an NP-hard problem that can also be formulated as an integer quadratic program. Several solution methods have been developed since the 1970s and applied to a variety of fields, particularly in engineering and layout design. We propose a heuristic method based on the scatter-search methodology for finding approximate solutions to this optimization problem. Our solution procedure incorporates some innovative features within the scatter-search framework: (1) the solution of the maximum diversity prob…

New Results on the Mixed General Routing Problem

2005

[EN] In this paper, we deal with the polyhedral description and the resolution of the Mixed General Routing Problem. This problem, in which the service activity occurs both at some of the nodes and at some of the arcs and edges of a mixed graph, contains a large number of important arc and node routing problems as special cases. Here, a large family of facet-defining inequalities, the Honeycomb inequalities, is described. Furthermore, a cutting-plane algorithm for this problem that incorporates new separation procedures for the K-C, Regular Path-Bridge, and Honeycomb inequalities is presented. Branch and bound is invoked when the final solution of the cutting-plane procedure is fractional. …

A Boundary Control Approach to an Optimal Shape Design Problem

1989

Abstract We consider the problem of controlling the coincidence set in connection with an obstacle problem. We shall transform the obtained optimal shape design problem into a boundary control problem with Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Effect of Cutting Size and Basal Heat on Rooting of Micromeria fruticulosa Stem Cuttings

2017

Micromeria fruticulosa (Bertol.) Grande is a small pulviniform shrub, belonging to the Labiates, and characterized by twisted stems and pink-purple flowers. Endemic to Campania and Sicily (Italy), M. fruticulosa grows from sea level to 600 m altitude. This specie might be considered an excellent native plant for landscape purposes in Mediterranean areas because of its long flowering period, extending from November to June, and its tolerance to heat and drought. The exploitation of wild plants for ornamental purposes implies knowledge on the factors influencing the propagation methods. Root development of stem cuttings of M. fruticulosa was investigated in relation to basal heat and cutting …

Researches regarding cutting tool condition monitoring

2017

The paper main purpose is monitoring of tool wear in metal cutting using neural networks due to their ability of learning and adapting their self, based on experiments. Monitoring the cutting process is difficult to perform on-line because of the complexity of tool wear process, which is the most important parameter that defines the tool state at a certain moment. Most of the researches appraise the tool wear by indirect factors such as forces, consumed power, vibrations or the surface quality. In this case, it is important to combine many factors for increasing the accuracy of tool wear prediction and establish the admissible size of wear. For this, paper both the theoretical data obtained…

Thin film growth into the ion track structures in polyimide by atomic layer deposition

2017

Abstract High-aspect ratio porous structures with controllable pore diameters and without a stiff substrate can be fabricated using the ion track technique. Atomic layer deposition is an ideal technique for depositing thin films and functional surfaces on complicated 3D structures due to the high conformality of the films. In this work, we studied Al2O3 and TiO2 films grown by ALD on pristine polyimide (Kapton HN) membranes as well as polyimide membranes etched in sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and boric acid (BO3) solution by means of RBS, PIXE, SEM-EDX and helium ion microcopy (HIM). The focus was on the first ALD growth cycles. The areal density of Al2O3 film in the 400 cycle sample was det…

Customizable Patient-Specific Cutting Guide for High Tibial Osteotomy

2019

Abstract The paper is an interdisciplinary medical and engineering approach that aims to optimize the accuracy of the High Tibial Osteotomy surgical intervention. The axial deviations of the human inferior limb are presented in the first part of the paper. Without altering the shape of the bones, these deviations cause the wear of the knee’s articular cartilage by gonarthrosis. One of the most common and effective treatment modalities for eliminating axial deviations is High Tibial Osteotomy. Because the surgical procedure involves 3D spatial bone cutting, the accuracy of the procedure and thus the success of the operation and the recovery of the patient is dependent on the execution of the…
