The Scope of Application of Macrocyclic Polyamines Beyond Metal Chelation
2019
Recent advances in the use of radiometals for both imaging and therapy has spurred on the development of an original chemistry that endows radionuclide-chelating molecular cages with ever sharper physicochemical properties. Macrocyclic polyamines (MPAs) such as cyclen and DOTA are among the most frequently encountered cages for the design of new radiotracers, owing to their versatile chemistry that makes them customizable molecular tools. The idea of using MPAs for alternative purposes has recently emerged, with an eye towards benefiting from their unique topology, versatility, symmetry and water-solubility. This review summarizes strategies that have been recently implemented in which MPAs…
Inhibition of the pro-inflammatory mediators' production and anti-inflammatory effect of the iridoid scrovalentinoside.
2007
We have studied scrovalentinoside, an iridoid with anti-inflammatory properties isolated from Scrophularia auriculata ssp. pseudoauriculata, as an anti-inflammatory agent in different experimental models of delayed-type hypersensitivity. We found that scrovalentinoside reduced the edema induced by oxazolone at 0.5 mg/ear and sheep red blood cells at 10 mg/kg. The observed effect occurred during the last phase or inflammatory response; during the earlier phase or induction of the delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction, no significant activity was noted. Thus, scrovalentinoside reduced both the edema and cell infiltration in vivo and reduced lymphocyte proliferation in vitro, affecting the cy…
Corynosoma acanthocephalans in their paratenic fish hosts in the northern Baltic Sea
2003
First Life Cycle Impact Considerations of Two Wave Energy Converters
2018
The work presents two different revolutionary devices for the utilization of a new entry of renewable energy sources: sea wave. The first technology is based on linear generators, able to directly converts a linear motion into electrical output, limiting to minimum the chain of energy conversion. The other solution is based on a mechanical motion converter, coupled with alternators. The scope of this paper is to compare the two different systems designed by University of Palermo, through Life Cycle Assessment, in order to evaluate the global effects of the two systems to the environment.
Le collège de l'an 2000 : philosophie et enseignements de la consultation de 1999 sur les collèges
2000
International audience; This article reports the objectives, the course and the outcomes of the advisory meeting about 'collèges' (comprehensive secondary schools) held in Spring 1999 under the chairmanship of S. Royal. Political considerations had an important impact on this meeting, but the various stages of a traditional sociological survey were followed so that 'results', in terms of actor's judgement on the contemporary 'collège', can be taken into account. It is possible to see the emergence of a consensus about some issues, like arrangement of school time or compensatory education for maladjusted students, but there are many controversies concerning streaming, paths uniformity and al…
Applications to Algebraic Cycles: Nori's Theorem
2017
Deligne cohomology is a tool that makes it possible to unify the study of cycles through an object that classifies extensions of ( p , p )-cycles by points in the p -th intermediate Jacobian (which is the target of the Abel–Jacobi map on cycles of codimension p ). This is treated in Section 10.1 with applications to normal functions. Before giving the proof of Nori's theorem in Section 10.6, we need some results from mixed Hodge theory. These are proven in Section 10.2 where we also state different variants of the theorem. Sections 10.3 and 10.4 treat a localto- global principle and an extension of the method of Jacobian representations of cohomology which are both essential for the proof. …
General Theory: Algebraic Point of View
2009
It is convenient to divide our study of pip-spaces into two stages. In the first one, we consider only the algebraic aspects. That is, we explore the structure generated by a linear compatibility relation on a vector space V , as introduced in Section I.2, without any other ingredient. This will lead us to another equivalent formulation, in terms of particular coverings of V by families of subspaces. This first approach, purely algebraic, is the subject matter of the present chapter. Then, in a second stage, we introduce topologies on the so-called assaying subspaces \(\{V_r \}\). Indeed, as already mentioned in Section I.2, assuming the partial inner product to be nondegenerate implies tha…
Raloxifene increases proliferation of human endothelial cells in association with increased gene expression of cyclins A and B1.
2006
Objective To examine the proliferative effect of of raloxifene on human umbilical-vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), and to investigate whether there is an associated increased expression of some key regulators of the cell cycle. Design Cell culture for different incubation times. Setting University research laboratory. Patient(s) Sources of HUVECs. Intervention(s) Measurement of cell proliferation, of protein levels of cyclin A, cyclin B1, cyclin D1, cyclin-dependent protein kinase (CDK) 2, CDK4, and p27 Kip1 , and of messenger RNA expression of cyclin A, cyclin B1, and p27 Kip1 . Main Outcome Measure(s) Cell proliferation was measured by the 3-(4.5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazol…
Characterization of aging-associated up-regulation of constitutive nuclear factor-kappa B binding activity.
2001
Changes occur in gene expression during aging in vivo and in replicative senescence in vitro, suggesting that aging can affect gene regulation. We have recently observed age-related changes in ubiquitously expressed, oxidative stress-responsive nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B) pathway during aging. Here we report a significant age-related increase in nuclear NF-kappa B binding activity together with increased protein levels of p52 and p65 components in rat liver. An additional, higher molecular weight protein band seen in their western blots suggests that their post-translational modification (but not phosphorylation) occurs in liver, which might affect their nuclear localization and bin…
Senescence-associated HSP60 expression in normal human skin fibroblasts
2005
Normal mammalian fibroblasts cultured in vitro undergo a limited number of divisions before entering a senescent phase in which they can be maintained for long periods but cannot be induced to divide. Senescent cells become unresponsive to growth-promoting signals and exhibit senescent cell morphology with flattened and enlarged cell shape. Several chaperones have a direct effect on cellular senescence. HSP60 has been largely studied in our laboratories and it has been associated with uncontrolled cell proliferation in tumor cells. Since senescence is firmly regulated during cell cycle progression, we wanted to investigate HSP60 protein level during cellular senescence. Our data show that H…
