Sensitivity analysis of the fraunhofer line discrimination method for the measurement of chlorophyll fluorescence using a field spectroradiometer

The Fraunhofer Line Discrimination (FLD) principle is established as a good method for remote sensing of solar induced chlorophyll fluorescence. Some improvements to the method are analysed in order to determine and reduce the sources of error in the estimation of the fluorescence emission. A sensitivity analysis has been performed over simulated data generated from real diurnal cycle measurements.

Abstract Hamstrings injury is a common occurrence in athletic performance. These injuries tend to occur during a deceleration or landing task suggesting the negative work may be a key component in hamstrings injury. The purpose of this study was to investigate the muscular activity (EMG) of the biceps femoris (BF) in different phases (concentric vs. eccentric) of a Counter Movement Jump (CMJ), Squat Jump (SJ) and the Braking Phase (BP) of a landing task. The use of bacteriophages provides an attractive approach to the fight against food-borne pathogenic bacteria, since they can be found in different environments and are unable to infect humans, both characteristics of which support their use as biocontrol agents. Nonlinear Complex PCA for spatio-temporal analysis of global soil moisture

Soil moisture (SM) is a key state variable of the hydrological cycle, needed to monitor the effects of a changing climate on natural resources. Soil moisture is highly variable in space and time, presenting seasonalities, anomalies and long-term trends, but also, and important nonlinear behaviours. Here, we introduce a novel fast and nonlinear complex PCA method to analyze the spatio-temporal patterns of the Earth's surface SM. A novel digital control for DC/DC converters to improve steady-state performances

This paper describes an innovative digital PWM control implementation for low voltage, high current DC-DC converters. The proposed technique, based on the use of a low resolution DAC, improves steady-state performances, minimizing limit cycle effects. Sticky-Price Models and the Natural Rate Hypothesis

A major criticism of standard specifications of price adjustment in models for monetary policy analysis is that they violate the natural rate hypothesis by allowing output to differ from potential in steady state. In this paper we estimate a dynamic optimizing business cycle model whose price-setting behavior satisfies the natural rate hypothesis. The price-adjustment specifications we consider are the sticky-information specification of Mankiw and Reis (2002) and the indexed contracts of Christiano, Eichenbaum, and Evans (2005). Synthesis and biological evaluation of cyclic derivatives of combretastatin A-4 containing group 14 elements

Several tricyclic compounds inspired by the structure of combretastatin A-4 and bearing group 14 elements have been synthesized by homocoupling lithiated aryl fragments followed by ring-closing metathesis. These tricyclic compounds and their diolefin precursors were evaluated for their antiproliferative action on the tumor cell lines HT-29, MCF-7, HeLa and A-549 and on the non-tumor cell line HEK-293. In addition, their effects on the cell cycle were also measured. The tricyclic compounds show antiproliferative activity similar to that of combretastatin A-4, even though they are not so active in arresting the cell cycle. Synthesis and biological evaluation of 2- and 3-aminobenzo[b]thiophene derivatives as antimitotic agents and inhibitors of tubulin polymerization.

Two new series of inhibitors of tubulin polymerization based on the 2-amino-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl)benzo[b]thiophene molecular skeleton and its 3-amino positional isomer were synthesized and evaluated for antiproliferative activity, inhibition of tubulin polymerization, and cell cycle effects. Although many more 3-amino derivatives have been synthesized so far, the most promising compound in this series was 2-amino-6-methyl-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl)benzo[b]thiophene, which inhibits cancer cell growth at subnanomolar concentrations and interacts strongly with tubulin by binding to the colchicine site.
