Intramolecular proton transfer boosts water oxidation catalyzed by a Ru complex

2015

We introduce a new family of complexes with the general formula [Run(tda)(py)2]m+ (n = 2, m = 0, 1; n = 3, m = 1, 2+; n = 4, m = 2, 32+), with tda2– being [2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine]-6,6″-dicarboxylate, including complex [RuIV(OH)(tda-κ-N3O)(py)2]+, 4H+, which we find to be an impressive water oxidation catalyst, formed by hydroxo coordination to 32+ under basic conditions. The complexes are synthesized, isolated, and thoroughly characterized by analytical, spectroscopic (UV–vis, nuclear magnetic resonance, electron paramagnetic resonance), computational, and electrochemical techniques (cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, coulometry), …

Highly efficient temperature-dependent chiral separation with a nucleotide-based coordination polymer.

2018

We report a new chiral coordination polymer, prepared from the cytidine 5′-monophosphate (CMP) nucleotide, capable of separating efficiently (enantiomeric excess of ca. 100%) racemic mixtures of L- and D-Asp in a temperature-dependent manner. The crystal structure of the host–guest adsorbate, with the D-Asp guest molecules loaded within its channels, could be solved allowing a direct visualization of the chiral recognition process.

Syntheses and Structures of a Series of Acyclic Diaminocarbene Palladium(II) Complexes Derived from 3,4-Diaryl-1H-pyrrol-2,5-diimines and Bisisocyani…

2018

Reactions of 3,4-diaryl-1H-pyrrol-2,5-diimines with various bisisocyanide palladium(II) complexes were studied. The coupling proceeds with one isocyanide ligand to accomplish the acyclic diaminocarbene complexes. The structure of generated diaminocarbene complexes depends on bulkiness of isocyanide ligand in the bisisocyanide complexes of palladium(II). The imino-group of 3,4-diaryl-1H-pyrrol-2,5-diimine reacts with one isocyanide ligand of cis-[PdCl2(CN–R)2] (R = i-Pr, Cy, t-Bu, Bn), and the nitrogen atom of the pyrrole ring is coordinated to the palladium center as the second isocyanide ligand remains intact. In the case of cis-[PdCl2(CN–R)2] (R = 2-acyloxyphenyl, 2-sulfonyloxyphenyl), on…

Photomagnetic properties of an Iron(II) low-spin complex with an unusually long-lived metastable LIESST state

2007

A comprehensive study of the photomagnetic behavior of the [Fe(L222N5)(CN)2].H2O complex has been carried out. This complex is characterized by a low-spin (LS) iron(II)-metal center up to 400 K and exhibits at 10 K the well-known Light-Induced Excited Spin State Trapping (LIESST) effect. The critical LIESST temperature (T(LIESST)) has been measured to be 105 K. The kinetics of the transition from the metastable high-spin (HS) state to the low-spin state have been determined and used for reproducing the experimental T(LIESST) curve. This study represents a second example of a fully low-spin iron(II)-metal complex up to 400 K, which can be photoexcited at low temperature with an atypical long…

Ammonia Activation by a Nickel NCN-Pincer Complex featuring a Non-Innocent N-Heterocyclic Carbene: Ammine and Amido Complexes in Equilibrium

2015

A Ni0-NCN pincer complex featuring a six-membered N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) central platform and amidine pendant arms was synthesized by deprotonation of its NiII precursor. It retained chloride in the square-planar coordination sphere of nickel and was expected to be highly susceptible to oxidative addition reactions. The Ni0 complex rapidly activated ammonia at room temperature, in a ligand-assisted process where the carbene carbon atom played the unprecedented role of proton acceptor. For the first time, the coordinated (ammine) and activated (amido) species were observed together in solution, in a solvent-dependent equilibrium. A structural analysis of the Ni complexes provided insig…

Effects of confinement level, cross-section shape and corner radius on the cyclic behavior of CFRCM confined concrete columns

2014

Abstract The main results of an experimental research aiming to investigate the behavior of medium-size low-strength concrete columns wrapped with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (CFRCM) under monotonic and cyclic compressive axial loads are presented. Thirty columns with circular, square and rectangular cross-sections were tested under monotonic and cyclic axial loads to investigate the effect of the confinement level, the cross-section shape and the corner radius on the stiffness, strength, and ductility of CFRCM confined concrete columns under cyclic loads. The results prove that CFRCM confining jackets provide substantial gain in compressive strength, deformability and absor…

Male breast cancer.

2010

Male breast cancer (MaleBC) is a rare disease, accounting for <1% of all male tumors. During the last few years, there has been an increase in the incidence of this disease, along with the increase in female breast cancer (FBC). Little is known about the etiology of MaleBC: hormonal, environmental and genetic factors have been reported to be involved in its pathogenesis. Major risk factors include clinical disorders carrying hormonal imbalances, radiation exposure and, in particular, a positive family history (FH) for BC, the latter suggestive of genetic susceptibility. Rare mutations in high-penetrance genes (BRCA1 and BRCA2) confer a high risk of BC development; low-penetrance gene mutati…
