Social Housing and Affordable Rent: The Effectiveness of Legal Thresholds of Rents in Two Italian Metropolitan Cities
2022
Social housing is an instrument of housing policies to support those groups of people who are disadvantaged due to particular economic weaknesses and/or social relational fragility. Consequently, to achieve the objective of social sustainability, the rents of social housing must be below the market rents and low enough to be affordable. Italian law has set several rent thresholds which are based on local territorial agreements between landlords and renters associations. This article aims to examine whether these thresholds generate social fairness and housing affordability within each city and between different cities, or instead inequalities and spatial asymmetries. A cluster analysis is a…
Renewable energy for sustainable rural development: synergies and mismatches
2020
Abstract Energy transition is increasingly regarded as a promising opportunity for the economic development of rural areas. This possibility is associated with the siting and (co-)ownership of decentralized (small-scale) renewable energy facilities. The underlying productive link, however, has been taken for granted, rather than conceptually and practically cultivated. Thus, while renewable energy-based rural development has been stated as a desired by-product of energy transitions, its potential has remained largely unfulfilled. This review aims to illuminate the ambiguous interplay between renewable energy and rural development in the context of the current trajectories of the energy tran…
Scientific abstracts and plain language summaries in psychology: A comparison based on readability indices.
2020
Findings from psychological research are usually difficult to interpret for non-experts. Yet, non-experts resort to psychological findings to inform their decisions (e.g., whether to seek a psychotherapeutic treatment or not). Thus, the communication of psychological research to non-expert audiences has received increasing attention over the last years. Plain language summaries (PLS) are abstracts of peer-reviewed journal articles that aim to explain the rationale, methods, findings, and interpretation of a scientific study to non-expert audiences using non-technical language. Unlike media articles or other forms of accessible research summaries, PLS are usually written by the authors of th…
5 - 6 gadīgu bērnu pētniecisko prasmju pilnveide dabaszinātņu mācību jomā
2020
Kvalifikācijas darba autore: Mirdza Grigola Kvalifikācijas darba nosaukums: 5-6 gadīgu bērnu pētniecisko prasmju pilnveide dabaszinātņu mācību jomā Pētījuma mērķis: teorētiski un praktiski pētīt 5-6 gadīgu bērnu pētniecisko prasmju pilnveides iespējas dabaszinātņu mācību jomā. Pētījuma hipotēze: 5-6 gadīgu pētnieciskās prasmes dabaszinātņu mācību jomas centrā tiek sekmētas, ja skolotājs: •labi pārzina 5-6 gadīgu bērnu vecumposma attīstības likumsakarības, •ja tiek izmantotas daudzveidīgas pētniecības metodes, •ja bērniem nodrošināta patstāvīga darbība un iespējas grupas dabaszinātņu mācību jomas centrā un āra aktivitātēs. Darba galvenie atslēgas vārdi: pētniecība, pētnieciskās prasmes, daba…
A methodological approach for assessing businness investments in renewable resources from a circular economy perspective
2018
Abstract In this paper, we have analyzed a feasibility project for the realization of a biogas plant at a company in the viticulture sector located in south-central Sicily. Using engineering formulas, we identified the electrical power that the plant could produce using waste products created by the vineyard itself, examined the new and interesting opportunities that have arisen with the encouragement and development of biogas production in Italy, and then assessed the economic feasibility of the investment itself, considering an investment scheme of total capital self-financing. The possibility of using wastes from wine production comes from an in-depth study of the circular economy, that …

Risk-adapted management of pulmonary embolism
2017
The presence and severity of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction is a key determinant of prognosis in the acute phase of pulmonary embolism (PE). Risk-adapted treatment strategies continue to evolve, tailoring initial management to the clinical presentation and the functional status of the RV. Beyond pharmacological and, if necessary, mechanical circulatory support, systemic thrombolysis remains the mainstay of treatment for hemodynamically unstable patients; in contrast, it is not routinely recommended for intermediate-risk PE. Catheter-directed pharmacomechanical reperfusion treatment represents a promising option for minimizing bleeding risk; for reduced-dose intravenous thrombolysis, the…
Neue orale Antikoagulanzien zur Therapie der venösen Thromboembolie
2011
In the current treatment of venous thromboembolism most patients are treated with vitamin K antagonists (VKA). VKA have many disadvantages including slow onset of action, multiple food and drug interactions and a large inter-individual variability in their efficacy. Recently several alternative oral anticoagulants have been developed, which have several advantages in comparison to VKA. So far two large randomized studies comparing new oral anticoagulants with VKA in patients with venous thromboembolism have been published: the RECOVER study with the oral direct thrombin antagonist dabigatran and the EINSTEIN-DVT study with the oral direct factor Xa-antagonist rivaroxaban. With regard to rec…
