Sobre el Anteproyecto de Código Procesal Civil Chileno de 2006. Una "intervención provocada"

2008

The author globally analyzes the draft bill of the Chilean Civil Procedural Code, contributing with some warnings and critiques to the pre-legislator from dijferent perspectives. Among them we find the constitutional configuration of the fundamental right of access to justice; the comprehension of the procedural-legal relationship and the faculties of the parts concerning the proceedings; the boundaries of some legal authorities concerning the evidence, etc.

Mudarrisūn e muḥaddiṯūn a Damasco negli awāmir sulṭāniyyah (1876-1908)

2014

The Center for Historical Documentation of Damascus, which was founded in 1960, houses a relevant variety of first-hand sources dating back to the Ottoman period, which prove to be fundamental in order to better define some peculiar aspects of history of Bilād al-Šām, such as the role of ʿulamāʾ and transmission of knowledge. As far as this is concerned, the awāmir sulṭāniyyah represent an essential part of the documentation, not only for the number of biographical data about mudarrisūn and muḥadditūn who were living and teaching in Damascus, but also for the particular relationship that they established with the main cultural institutions of the city, such as the traditional madāris. Throu…

Credit, Debt and FInances of the Queen's Household in the Crown of Aragon at the End of the Fourteenth Century. The Agreement between the Queen Viola…

2018

At the end of the Fourteenth century, Queen’s treasury in the Crown of Aragon suffered from a heavy debt that made virtually impossible any ordinary payment. As a re…

2010

This article achieves a comparative analysis between the Citizenship and Integration Programme (2007-2010) and the spanish Migration Bill Project. Firstly, it aims to analyze whether the concept of integration, as it was introduced as a general principle within the Migration Bill, is consistent with the concept of the Programme. Secondly, it is about to examine how the notion of integration affects some of the provisions, which are introduced by the law reform, especially on fundamental rights. Finally, this leads to assess the implications and strains between migration control policies and integration policies about migrants’.

Youth perceptions of violence against women through a sexist chant in the football stadium: an exploratory analysis

2017

Gender-based violence and violence against women (VAW) refers to any violation of fundamental rights. However, some forms of VAW are viewed as unproblematic, acceptable and deserved. Taking into account that sexist chants in football stadiums reinforce VAW, the purpose of the study is to determine how a group of adolescents can normalize or challenge an example of sexist chants. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted and the participants were asked to discuss to what extent the actions could be considered as gender-based violence. Most of the youth were highly unconscious of the sexist nature of the video and only a few recognized it as gender-based violence. Such awareness i…

Molecular Identification of Yeasts Associated with Traditional Egyptian Dairy Products

2009

This study aimed to examine the diversity and ecology of yeasts associated with traditional Egyptian dairy products employing molecular techniques in yeast identification. A total of 120 samples of fresh and stored Domiati cheese, kariesh cheese, and "Matared" cream were collected from local markets and examined. Forty yeast isolates were cultured from these samples and identified using the restriction-fragment length polymorphism (RFLPs) of 5.8S-ITS rDNA region and sequencing of the domains D1 and D2 of the 26S rRNA gene. Yeasts were identified as Issatchenkia orientalis (13 isolates), Candida albicans (4 isolates), Clavispora lusitaniae (Candida lusitaniae) (9 isolates), Kodamaea ohmeri (…

Minimal unit vector fields

2002

We compute the first variation of the functional that assigns each unit vector field the volume of its image in the unit tangent bundle. It is shown that critical points are exactly those vector fields that determine a minimal immersion. We also find a necessary and sufficient condition that a vector field, defined in an open manifold, must fulfill to be minimal, and obtain a simpler equivalent condition when the vector field is Killing. The condition is fulfilled, in particular, by the characteristic vector field of a Sasakian manifold and by Hopf vector fields on spheres.

Volume, energy and generalized energy of unit vector fields on Berger spheres: stability of Hopf vector fields

2005

We study to what extent the known results concerning the behaviour of Hopf vector fields, with respect to volume, energy and generalized energy functionals, on the round sphere are still valid for the metrics obtained by performing the canonical variation of the Hopf fibration.

Miltirone Induces G2/M Cell Cycle Arrest and Apoptosis in CCRF-CEM Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Cells

2015

Miltirone (1) is a diterpene quinone extracted from a well-known Chinese traditional herb (Salvia miltiorrhiza). We investigated the cytotoxic effects of miltirone toward sensitive and multidrug-resistant acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines. Miltirone inhibited multidrug-resistant P-glycoprotein (P-gp)-overexpressing CEM/ADR5000 cells better than drug-sensitive CCRF-CEM wild-type cells, a phenomenon termed collateral sensitivity. Flow cytometric analyses revealed that miltirone induced G2/M arrest and apoptosis. Furthermore, miltirone stimulated reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) disruption, which in turn induced DNA damage and activation…
