Acoustic characterization of Silica aerogel clamped plates for perfect absorption purpose

International audience; Silica aerogel has been widely studied as bulk material for its extremely low density and thermal conductivity. Plates or membranes made of this extremely soft materials exhibits interesting properties for sound absorption. A novel signal processing method for the characterization of an acoustic metamaterial made of silica aerogel clamped plates is presented. Detection of deuterated molecules, but not of lithium hydride, in the z = 0.89 absorber toward PKS 1830−211

Deuterium and lithium are light elements of high cosmological and astrophysical importance. In this work we report the first detection of deuterated molecules and a search for lithium hydride, 7LiH, at redshift z=0.89 in the spiral galaxy intercepting the line of sight to the quasar PKS1830-211. We used ALMA to observe several submillimeter lines of ND, NH2D, and HDO, and their related isotopomers NH2, NH3, and H2^18O, in absorption against the southwest image of the quasar, allowing us to derive XD/XH abundance ratios. Autotrophic and Heterotrophic Picoplankton in Wetlands: Differences with Lake Patterns

This study describes the occurrence, importance and seasonal patterns of picoplankton in two wetlands (TDNP and La Safor), and compares them to a system of fifteen interconnected lakes (Ruidera). In TDNP we performed a six-year monthly study in three sites of the wetland. Bacterial abundance increased throughout time and the autotrophic picoplankton (APP) range was wide (up to 33 x 10 6 cells/ml). The annual averaged APP contribution to total picoplankton and phytoplankton biovolumes was 0.5-22% and 0.03-6% respectively. The pineal complex in Roman high avoidance and Roman low avoidance rats.

Previous studies have shown that the pineal gland of Roman high avoidance (RHA/Verh) rats is larger than that of Roman low avoidance rats (RLA/Verh). In the present study measurement of enzyme activities (serotonin-N-acetyl-transferase, hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase) revealed that pineals of RHA/Verh rats are twice as active in melatonin production than pineals of RLA/Verh rats. Indoleamine content was also higher in RHA/Verh rats, whereas noradrenaline content was the same in both lines. When values were expressed per mg protein, these differences disappeared except for N-acetyl-serotonin and noradrenaline which were higher or lower in RHA/Verh rats, respectively. Ultradian rhythms in avoidance behavior of DBA mice

This study investigates ultradian rhythm in avoidance behavior of mice, which may constitute a basic rest activity cycle (BRAC). Reaction times (RTs) of an avoidance response to a visual warning stimulus that preceded an electric shock were measured by the use of a computer-controlled shuttle box. The male naive DBA mice were brought to a criterion of 98% correct responses in numerous training sessions. Affordance theory provides one of the most prominent lenses through which the socio-technical aspects of a system’s use can be investigated and understood. In this context, the literature has proposed that perceived and actualized affordances may be adjusted over time. Yet, how the adjustment of affordances occurs has not been explained in detail. Thus, in this article, we develop a conceptual model of feedback mechanisms that includes a more explicit description of how affordances are perceived by users, whether actualized and adjusted.
