The angiopoietin-Tie2 pathway regulates Purkinje cell dendritic morphogenesis in a cell-autonomous manner.
2021
Neuro-vascular communication is essential to synchronize central nervous system development. Here, we identify angiopoietin/Tie2 as a neuro-vascular signaling axis involved in regulating dendritic morphogenesis of Purkinje cells (PCs). We show that in the developing cerebellum Tie2 expression is not restricted to blood vessels, but it is also present in PCs. Its ligands angiopoietin-1 (Ang1) and angiopoietin-2 (Ang2) are expressed in neural cells and endothelial cells (ECs), respectively. PC-specific deletion of Tie2 results in reduced dendritic arborization, which is recapitulated in neural-specific Ang1-knockout and Ang2 full-knockout mice. Mechanistically, RNA sequencing reveals that Tie…
Electric field enhanced water dissociation at the bipolar membrane junction from ac impedance spectra measurements
1998
Abstract Preliminary experimental results of the ac impedance spectra of a bipolar ion-exchange membrane are reported and interpreted on the basis of a previous theoretical model based on the Nernst–Planck/Poisson equations. It is shown that the experiments can provide valuable electrochemical information about the bipolar junction structure and the electric-field enhanced water dissociation phenomenon that occurs at this junction, although the high number of unknown parameters involved makes it difficult to obtain accurate values for the parameters characteristic of this phenomenon.
Nitrogen-15 NMR Studies on Hydrazines. 2— Substituent Effect Analysis inortho-Substituted Phenylhydrazines and Anilines
1996
15N and 13C NMR spectra of some ortho-substituted phenylhydrazines were measured at natural isotope abundance in DMSO-d6 solutions. The substituent present exerts a larger effect on the chemical shift of the nitrogen atom directly bound to the aromatic ring (N-1), the second one (N-2) showing an attenuated trend of similar sign. Contrary to what observed for para and meta isomers, the cross-correlation between N-1 and N-2 SCS values of ortho-substituted phenylhydrazines is not satisfactory; on the other hand, N-1 SCSs show a reasonably good linear regression with the σR− constants. As expected, no correlation was found between N-1 and C-1 or H-1 SCS values. Correlations between 13C and 15N …
Electrical impedance spectroscopy of ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium methanesulfonate (ECOENG™ 110)
2011
Abstract Ionic liquid “ECOENG™ 110”, a promising electrolyte for electrochemical devices, was investigated by impedance spectroscopy. Metallic electrodes (Pt, Cu, Ag, and Mo) as well as carbon were used for the electrochemical characterization. The dependences of the real and imaginary impedance, polarization resistance and electrochemical capacity of the double layer on the electrode potential were investigated using electrical equivalent circuits of R1(QR2) and R1[Q(R2W)] types.
A kinetic interpretation of a negative time constant in impedance equivalent circuits for the dissolution/passive transition
2007
Abstract A theoretical impedance function is proposed for the active/passive transition of nickel in an acid sulphate medium. It is considered that passivating species progressively covers the electrode surface. This approximated model predicts the appearance of negative time constants in the impedance spectra when coverage coefficient θ values for passive species are greater than 0.5.
Alternating current electrogravimetry of copper electrodissolution in a sulfuric acid solution
2017
Abstract Copper electrodissolution processes have been studied by means of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and ac-electrogravimetry (mass impedance). During ac-electrogravimetry acquisition, mass decreases or increases due to the electrodissolution or the electrodeposition of copper, respectively. As a result, this continuous mass drift makes impossible obtaining a true ac-electrogravimetry response unless a numerical correction was applied. It has been compared the electrochemical behavior of copper layers previously treated and other freshly deposited on the gold electrode of the quartz crystal microbalance. The simultaneous analysis of both impedance functions has allowed separati…
Bipolar membranes under forward and reverse bias conditions. Theory vs. experiment
1994
Abstract Bipolar membranes are layered structures composed of one cation-and one anion-exchange membrane joined together in series. The current—voltage curves of two recently developed bipolar membranes have been analysed theoretically and experimentally under both forward and reverse bias conditions. The experimental trends observed are high conductivity under forward bias conditions and high impedance first, and then electric field enhanced (EFE) water dissociation for high enough applied voltages, under reverse bias conditions. The forward bias measurements can contribute to a better knowledge of some of the transport parameters entering also in the reverse biased membrane. Comparison of…
Radical Formation by Fine Particulate Matter Associated with Highly Oxygenated Molecules
2019
Highly oxygenated molecules (HOMs) play an important role in the formation and evolution of secondary organic aerosols (SOA). However, the abundance of HOMs in different environments and their relation to the oxidative potential of fine particulate matter (PM) are largely unknown. Here, we investigated the relative HOM abundance and radical yield of laboratory-generated SOA and fine PM in ambient air ranging from remote forest areas to highly polluted megacities. By electron paramagnetic resonance and mass spectrometric investigations, we found that the relative abundance of HOMs, especially the dimeric and low-volatility types, in ambient fine PM was positively correlated with the formatio…
Effect of pruning-derived biochar on heavy metals removal and water dynamics
2014
Biomass-derived biochar is considered as a promising heavy metal adsorbent, due to abundance of polar functional groups, such as carboxylic, hydroxyl, and amino groups, which are available for heavy metal removal. The aims of this study were to evaluate the effectiveness of an orchard pruning-derived biochar in removing some heavy metals (through the evaluation of isotherms) and to study water dynamics at the solid-liquid interface as affected by heavy metal adsorption (through an innovative nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxometry approach). Both isotherms and NMR spectra revealed that Pb and Cr showed a good affinity for the biochar surface (Pb > Cr), while Cu was less affine. Accordi…
Vascular resistance arm of the baroreflex: methodology and comparison with the cardiac chronotropic arm.
2020
Baroreflex response consists of cardiac chronotropic (effect on heart rate), cardiac inotropic (on contractility), venous (on venous return) and vascular (on vascular resistance) arms. Because of its measurement simplicity, cardiac chronotropic arm is most often analysed. The aim was to introduce a method to assess vascular baroreflex arm, and to characterize its changes during stress. We evaluated the effect of orthostasis and mental arithmetics (MA) in 39 (22 female, median age: 18.7 yrs.) and 36 (21 female, 19.2 yrs.) healthy volunteers, respectively. We recorded systolic and mean blood pressure (SBP and MBP) by volume-clamp method and R-R interval (RR) by ECG. Cardiac output (CO) was re…
