Start Making Sense
2018
In this second section, focus will be given the Kristiansand Roundtable Conference and the dialogues and data that this book builds upon. Throughout this part, extracts and quotations will be taken from conferences to exemplify and illustrate issues that will be further discussed in the text. The Kristiansand Roundtable Conference provides a rare opportunity to follow the difficult discussions among key stakeholders within and outside the music industries, as they try to make sense of the current situation, the different options on the table, as well as the opposing and conflicting agendas. The dialogues and discussions display a complex matrix of different interests and agendas, illuminati…
A validated search filter for the identification of endocrine disruptors based on the ECHA/EFSA guidance recommendations.
2020
Abstract A guidance document for the identification of endocrine disruptors (EDs) in the regulatory assessment of plant protection products (PPP) and biocidal products (BP) has been published by the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The ECHA/EFSA guidance, mainly addressing EATS (estrogen, androgen, thyroid, steroidogenesis) modalities, is intended to guide applicants and assessors of the competent regulatory authorities on the implementation of the scientific criteria for the determination of ED properties pursuant to the recently implemented PPP ( EU 2018/605 ) and BP ( EU 2017/2100 ) EU Regulations. In this study, a search filter for targeted …
Temporal drivers of liking
2013
Abstract Generally liking is measured overall but is likely to vary over the food intake, like sensory perception. Replacing the attributes in Temporal Dominance of Sensations (TDS) by the categories of a usual ordinal liking scale makes it possible to monitor liking changes while eating a product (Sudre et al., 2012). This methodology allows for a better understanding of the influence of temporal dominance of sensations on liking and liking evolution over the time of product intake. Thus, it is possible to associate hedonic temporal data and descriptive temporal data (TDS profiles), which would identify drivers of liking, that is attributes which, when cited as dominant, would lead to a de…
Table of Periodic Properties of Fullerenes Based on Structural Parameters.
2004
The periodic table (PT) of the elements suggests that hydrogen could be the origin of everything else. The construction principle is an evolutionary process that is formally similar to those of Darwin and Oparin. The Kekulé structure count and permanence of the adjacency matrix of fullerenes are related to structural parameters involving the presence of contiguous pentagons p, q and r. Let p be the number of edges common to two pentagons, q the number of vertices common to three pentagons, and r the number of pairs of nonadjacent pentagon edges shared between two other pentagons. Principal component analysis (PCA) of the structural parameters and cluster analysis (CA) of the fullerenes perm…
Spatial Distribution of Fungal Communities in an Arable Soil.
2015
Fungi are prominent drivers of ecological processes in soils, so that fungal communities across different soil ecosystems have been well investigated. However, for arable soils taxonomically resolved fine-scale studies including vertical itemization of fungal communities are still missing. Here, we combined a cloning/Sanger sequencing approach of the ITS/LSU region as marker for general fungi and of the partial SSU region for arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) to characterize the microbiome in different maize soil habitats. Four compartments were analyzed over two annual cycles 2009 and 2010: a) ploughed soil in 0-10 cm, b) rooted soil in 40-50 cm, c) root-free soil in 60-70 cm soil depth a…
Paradigm of tunable clustering using Binarization of Consensus Partition Matrices (Bi-CoPaM) for gene discovery
2013

Clustering analysis has a growing role in the study of co-expressed genes for gene discovery. Conventional binary and fuzzy clustering do not embrace the biological reality that some genes may be irrelevant for a problem and not be assigned to a cluster, while other genes may participate in several biological functions and should simultaneously belong to multiple clusters. Also, these algorithms cannot generate tight cluster…
Optimization Under Fuzzy Max-t-Norm Relation Constraints
2019
Fuzzy relation equations and inequalities play an important role in many tools of fuzzy modelling and have been extensively studied. In many practical applications they are used as constraints in optimization. Algorithms for specific objective functions have been proposed by many authors. In this paper we introduce a method to convert a system of fuzzy relation constraints with max-t-norm composition to a linear constraint system by adding integer variables. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed method.
Inflation might be caused by the right: Handed neutrino
2009
We show that the scalar field that drives inflation can have a dynamical origin, being a strongly coupled right handed neutrino condensate. The resulting model is phenomenologically tightly constrained, and can be experimentally (dis)probed in the near future. The mass of the right handed neutrino obtained this way (a crucial ingredient to obtain the right light neutrino spectrum within the see-saw mechanism in a complete three generation framework) is related to that of the inflaton and both completely determine the inflation features that can be tested by current and planned experiments.
Secure and scalable dataprocessing and communications for an Animal Tracking System
2003
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2003 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad Modern technology is constantly being employed in new fields, by new industries and people. The cost of advanced technological equipment decreases continously, and equipment that was reserved for people and corporations with a lot of money has now become household products. This enables many interesting ideas and projects, Kitron Development’s radiocollar project being one of them. Kitron Development is involved in a project to track the position of animals by substituting the traditional bell collar with a collar that contains a GPS receiver. The collar transmits its position to a base station using…
Distributed medical images analysis on a Grid infrastructure
2007
In this paper medical applications on a Grid infrastructure, the MAGIC-5 Project, are presented and discussed. MAGIC-5 aims at developing Computer Aided Detection (CADe) software for the analysis of medical images on distributed databases by means of GRID Services. The use of automated systems for analyzing medical images improves radiologists’ performance; in addition, it could be of paramount importance in screening programs, due to the huge amount of data to check and the cost of related manpower. The need for acquiring and analyzing data stored in different locations requires the use of Grid Services for the management of distributed computing resources and data. Grid technologies allow…
