Donor lymphocyte infusions (DLI) are used to resolve mixed T-cell chimerism (TCC) after allo-SCT despite a substantial risk of GVHD. We analyzed the impact of prophylactic CD8-depleted (CD8(depl)) DLI in 20 recipients of anti-CD52 alemtuzumab in vivo T-cell-depleted allografts with declining donor TCC after day +60. A total of 13 patients received CD8(depl) DLI and 7 patients did not. All but one of the DLI patients converted to complete donor T-cell chimeras, whereas only one non-DLI patient converted spontaneously. Abstract Activation of the transcription factor PPARγ by the n-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is implicated in controlling proinflammatory cytokine secretion, but the intracellular signaling pathways engaged by PPARγ are incompletely characterized. Here, we identify the adapter-encoding gene SOCS3 as a critical transcriptional target of PPARγ. SOCS3 promoter binding and gene transactivation by PPARγ was associated with a repression in differentiation of proinflammatory T-helper (TH)17 cells. Pseudomorphic transformation of amorphous calcium carbonate films follows spherulitic growth mechanisms and can give rise to crystal lattice tilting

Amorphous calcium carbonate films synthesized by the polymer-induced liquid-precursor (PILP) process convert into crystallographically complex calcite spherulites. Tuning the experimental parameters allows for the generation of crystal lattice tilting similar to that found in calcareous biominerals. This contribution evidences the role of spherulitic growth mechanisms in pseudomorphic transformations of calcium carbonate.

The bladder exstrophy-epispadias complex (BEEC) represents the severe end of the uro-rectal malformation spectrum, and is thought to result from aberrant embryonic morphogenesis of the cloacal membrane and the urorectal septum. The most common form of BEEC is isolated classic bladder exstrophy (CBE). To identify susceptibility loci for CBE, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 110 CBE patients and 1,177 controls of European origin. Here, an association was found with a region of approximately 220kb on chromosome 5q11.1. This region harbors the ISL1 (ISL LIM homeobox 1) gene. Abstract Purpose The effect of recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) on the radiosensitivity of human tumor xenografts growing in anemic and nonanemic nude mice was studied. Methods and materials Anemia was induced by total body irradiation ([TBI], 2 × 4 Gy) of mice before tumor implantation into the subcutis of the hind leg. The development of anemia was prevented by rhEPO (750 U/kg s.c.) given 3 times weekly starting 2 weeks before TBI.
