β-decay study of150Er,152Yb, and156Yb: Candidates for a monoenergetic neutrino beam facility

2011

The beta decays of ^{150}Er, ^{152}Yb, and ^{156}Yb nuclei are investigated using the total absorption spectroscopy technique. These nuclei can be considered possible candidates for forming the beam of a monoenergetic neutrino beam facility based on the electron capture (EC) decay of radioactive nuclei. Our measurements confirm that for the cases studied, the EC decay proceeds mainly to a single state in the daughter nucleus.

Beta Decay of 111Tc to 111Ru

1998

The β-decay of the very neutron-rich 111Tc nucleus has been observed. A partial decay scheme of 111Ru is presented, complementing the high-spin levels earlier reported in spontaneous fission work.

Universal features of the nuclear matrix elements governing the mass sector of the 0νββ decay

2005

In this work we report on manifest universal features found in the nuclear matrix elements which govern the mass sector of the neutrinoless double beta decay. The results are based on the analysis of the calculated matrix elements corresponding to the decays of 76Ge, 82Se, 100Mo, and 116Cd. The results suggest a dominance of few low-lying nuclear states of few multipoles in these matrix elements. Dedicated charge-exchange reactions could be used to probe these key states to determine experimentally the value of the nuclear matrix element.

Analysis of transverse momentum correlations in hadronic Z decays

1999

In a recent paper, evidence was presented for a significant, positive correlation between the total transverse momenta of particles on opposite hemispheres of hadronic events. A new, model independent analysis of the data has been made. Two components can be distinguished in the correlation, and quantitative estimates of each are given. The results form a significant test of Monte Carlo models and some of the physics behind them. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Beta decay studies of neutron-rich $_{21}$Sc-$_{27}$Co nuclei at GANIL

2002

Abstract The neutron-rich nuclei 2157,58Sc, 2258–60Ti, 2258–60Ti, 2360–62V, 2464–66Cr, 2564–68Mn, 2667–70Fe and 2769–71Co have been produced at Ganil via interactions of a 61.8 A.MeV 76Ge beam with a 58Ni target. Beta-decay studies have been achieved, bringing new half-lives and a better nuclear structure knowledge in this region. These results could help for understanding the overabundances of the neutron-rich stable 58Fe, 64Ni in certain inclusions of meteorites.

Beta decay of $^{61}$Ga

1999

The β decay of 61Ga to its mirror nucleus 61Zn has been measured for the first time by using on-line mass separation and β-delayed gamma-ray spectroscopy. The observed decay strength to the ground state implies superallowed character in accordance with the systematics of the mirror decays in the sd and fp shell. The β feedings observed to four excited states in 61Zn are consistent with earlier spin-parity assignments based on in-beam experiments. The ground-state spin and parity for 61Ga were determined to be 3/2−.

Ground-state spin of 59Mn

2001

Beta decay of $^{59}$Mn has been studied at PSB-ISOLDE, CERN. The intense and pure Mn beam was produced using the Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS). Based on the measured $\beta$-decay rates the ground-state spin and parity are proposed to be $J^{\pi}$ = 5/2$^{-}$. This result is consistent with the systematic trend of the odd-A Mn nuclei and extends the systematics one step further towards the neutron drip line.

$\beta$ - decay of the M$_{T}$=-1 nucleus $^{58}$Zn studied by selective laser ionization

1998

$\beta$ - decay of $^{58}$Zn has been studied for the first time. A new laser ion-source concept has been used to produce mass-separated sources for $\beta$ and $\gamma$ - spectroscopy. The half-life of $^{58}$Zn was determined to be 86(18) ms. Comparisons are made with previous data from charge-exchange reactions. Our Gamow-Teller strength to the 1$^{+}$ state at 1051 keV excitation in $^{58}$Cu agrees well with the value extracted from a recent ($^{3}$He, t) study. Extensive shell-model calculations are presented.
