Low-spin excitations in the 109Tc nucleus

2012

Monoisotopic samples of ${}^{109}$Mo nuclei, produced in the deuteron-induced fission of ${}^{238}$U and separated using the IGISOL mass separator coupled to a Penning trap, were used to perform $\ensuremath{\beta}$- and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-coincidence spectroscopy of ${}^{109}$Tc. Spin and parity 5/2${}^{+}$ for the ground state of ${}^{109}$Mo, proposed earlier, are supported in the present work. Three new low-energy levels observed in ${}^{109}$Tc are interpreted as bandheads of the $\ensuremath{\pi}3/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$[301], $\ensuremath{\pi}5/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$[303], and $\ensuremath{\pi}1/{2}^{+}$[431] configurations, respectively. A further three levels observed around 0.4 Me…

Change in structure between the $I = 1/2$ states in $^{181}$Tl and $^{177,179}$Au

2018

Abstract The first accurate measurements of the α-decay branching ratio and half-life of the I π = 1 / 2 + ground state in 181Tl have been made, along with the first determination of the magnetic moments and I = 1 / 2 spin assignments of the ground states in 177,179Au. The results are discussed within the complementary systematics of the reduced α-decay widths and nuclear g factors of low-lying, I π = 1 / 2 + states in the neutron-deficient lead region. The findings shed light on the unexpected hindrance of the 1 / 2 + → 1 / 2 + , 181Tl → g 177 Aug α decay, which is explained by a mixing of π 3 s 1 / 2 and π 2 d 3 / 2 configurations in 177Aug, whilst 181Tlg remains a near-pure π 3 s 1 / 2 .…

Combining data from high-energy p p -reactions and neutrinoless double-beta decay: Limits on the mass of the right-handed boson

2016

From the recently established lower-limits on the nonobservability of the neutrinoless double-beta decay of 76Ge (GERDA collaboration) and 136Xe (EXO-200 and KamLAND-Zen collaborations), combined with the ATLAS and CMS data, we extract limits for the left-right (LR) mixing angle, of the SU(2)L ×SU(2)R electroweak Hamiltonian. For the theoretical analysis, which is a model dependent, we have adopted a minimal extension of the Standard Model (SM) of Electroweak Interactions belonging to the SU(2)L ×SU(2)R representation. The nuclear-structure input of the analysis consists of a set of matrix elements and phase-space factors, and the experimental lower-limits for the half-lives. The other inpu…

An ion guide for the production of a low energy ion beam of daughter products of α-emitters

2006

A new ion guide has been modeled and tested for the production of a low energy ($\approx$ 40 kV) ion beam of daughter products of alpha-emitting isotopes. The guide is designed to evacuate daughter recoils originating from the $\alpha$-decay of a $^{233}$U source. The source is electroplated onto stainless steel strips and mounted along the inner walls of an ion guide chamber. A combination of electric fields and helium gas flow transport the ions through an exit hole for injection into a mass separator. Ion guide efficiencies for the extraction of $^{229}$Th$^{+}$ (0.06%), $^{221}$Fr$^{+}$ (6%), and $^{217}$At$^{+}$ (6%) beams have been measured. A detailed study of the electric field and …

Pinning down the strength function for ordinary muon capture on 100Mo

2019

Ordinary muon capture (OMC) on 100Mo is studied both experimentally and theoretically in order to access the weak responses in wide energy and momentum regions. The OMC populates states in 100Nb up to some 50 MeV in excitation energy. For the first time the associated OMC strength function has been computed and compared with the obtained data. The present computations are performed using the Morita-Fujii formalism of OMC by extending the original formalism beyond the leading order. The participant nuclear wave functions are obtained in extended no-core single-particle model space using the spherical version of proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA) with two-nucleon…

Isotope shift and hyperfine structure measurements at the242f Am fission isomer

1996

Istope shift and hyperfine structure measurements have been performed for the242fAm fission isomer with target production rates of only a few per second. The method is based on resonance ionization spectroscopy (RIS) in a buffer gas cell with radioactive decay detection of the ionization process (RADRIS). A relative isotope shift ratioX exp=IS242f,241/ IS243,241=41.7±0.9 has been measured for the 500.02 nm transition corresponding to a nuclear parameter Λ242f,241=5.4±0.3 fm2. The analysis of the quadrupole moment based on the deformed Fermi-model of the nuclear charge distribution including second order corrections results inQ 20=38.2 ±1.4( −0.8 +0.4 )model eb. The measurement of the hyperf…

Hyperfine structure and isotope shift investigations in $^{202-222}$Rn for the study of nuclear structure beyond Z = 82

1986

The hyperfine structure (hfs) and isotope shift (IS) in the isotopic chain of the radioactive element radon have been studied for the first time. The measurements were carried out by collinear fast-beam laser spectroscopy at the mass separator facility ISOLDE at CERN. The IS between 16 isotopes in the mass range 202≦A≦222 and the hfs of 7 odd-A isotopes were determined in the transitions 7s [3/2]2-7p [5/2]3 (745 nm) of Rn I. The nuclear spins and moments, as well as the observed inversion of the odd-even staggering for218–222Rn, can be associated with the effects of octupole instability around N=134.

Decays of T Z = − 3/2 nuclei 23Al, 31Cl, and 41Ti

2012

This article gives an overview on the decay spectroscopy of T Z  = − 3/2 nuclei 23Al, 31Cl, and 41Ti performed at the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line (IGISOL) facility. The results of the IGISOL experiments are compared to the experimental results that have been published since. The isobaric multiplet mass equation (IMME) has been studied for the T = 3/2 quartets at A = 23 and A = 31. For 41Ti, a detailed comparison to the Gamow–Teller strengths obtained for the analog transitions via charge-exchange reactions has been done. Further improvements in the experimental instrumentation and methods and possible implementations for studying T Z  = − 3/2 nuclei at the new IGISOL facility are di…
