New calculations of grossβ-decay properties for astrophysical applications: Speeding-up the classicalrprocess
2003
Recent compilations of experimental gross $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay properties, i.e., half-lives ${(T}_{1/2})$ and neutron-emission probabilities ${(P}_{\mathrm{n}}),$ are compared to improved global macroscopic-microscopic model predictions. The model combines calculations within the quasiparticle (QP) random-phase approximation for the Gamow-Teller (GT) part with an empirical spreading of the QP strength and the gross theory for the first-forbidden part of ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decay. Nuclear masses are either taken from the 1995 data compilation of Audi et al., when available, otherwise from the finite-range droplet model. Especially for spherical and neutron-(sub-)mag…
Decay study ofTc114with a Penning trap
2011
The level structure of $^{114}\mathrm{Ru}$ has been investigated via the $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay of very neutron-rich $^{114}\mathrm{Tc}$ by means of Penning-trap-assisted $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ spectroscopy. The deduced $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay scheme suggests the existence of two $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decaying states in $^{114}\mathrm{Tc}$ with ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={1}^{+}$ and $I\ensuremath{\geqslant}$ 4, with half-lives of ${t}_{1/2}({1}^{+})=90(20)$ ms and ${t}_{1/2}(I\ensuremath{\geqslant}4)=100(20)$ ms, respectively. The ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\beta}}$ value, which covers a possible mixture of two states, has been determined to be ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\beta}}=11 785(12)$ keV. The level…
Finite-temperature correlations in the trapped Bose-Einstein gas
2001
There is a large literature (cf. eg. [1, 2]) which, under conditions of translational invariance, has used functional integral methods to calculate, ab initio, the equilibrium finite temperature 2-point correlation functions (Green ’s functions) \[\left\langle {\hat \psi (r,\tau ){{\hat \psi }^\dag }(r',\tau ')} \right\rangle \] \(G\left( {r,r'} \right) \equiv \left\langle {\psi \left( {r,\tau } \right){{{\hat{\psi }}}^{\dag }}\left( {r',\tau '} \right)} \right\rangle \) for a Bose gas in each of d=3, d=2, d=1 space dimensions: (…) means thermal average and τ, τ′ are ‘thermal times’ for which 0<τ,<τ′β and β−1=k B T, T the temperature. These functional integral methods [1, 2] solve the many-…

On a class of singular measures satisfying a strong annular decay condition
2018
A metric measure space $(X,d,\mu)$ is said to satisfy the strong annular decay condition if there is a constant $C>0$ such that $$ \mu\big(B(x,R)\setminus B(x,r)\big)\leq C\, \frac{R-r}{R}\, \mu (B(x,R)) $$ for each $x\in X$ and all $0<r \leq R$. If $d_{\infty}$ is the distance induced by the $\infty$-norm in $\mathbb{R}^N$, we construct examples of singular measures $\mu$ on $\mathbb{R}^N$ such that $(\mathbb{R}^N, d_{\infty},\mu)$ satisfies the strong annular decay condition.
Rigidity and Dynamics of Random Spring Networks
1996
The static and dynamic elastic properties of two-dimensional random networks composed of Hookean springs are analyzed. These networks are proved to be nonrigid with respect to small deformations, and the floppy mode ratio is calculated exactly. The vibrational spectrum is shown to consist only of zero-frequency and localized modes. The exponential decay of the amplitude and velocity of the transient wave front are shown to be exactly described by a quasi-one-dimensional model of noninteracting paths of propagation.
Direct observation of theBa114→Xe110→Te106→Sn102tripleα-decay chain using position and time correlations
2016
The triple $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-decay chain $^{114}\mathrm{Ba}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{110}\mathrm{Xe}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{106}\mathrm{Te}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{102}\mathrm{Sn}$ has been directly observed for the first time, following the $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}(^{58}\mathrm{Ni},2n)$ reaction. Implantation of $^{114}\mathrm{Ba}$ nuclei into a double-sided silicon-strip detector has allowed their $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ decays to be correlated in position and time with the $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ decays of the daughter $(^{110}\mathrm{Xe})$ and granddaughter $(^{106}\mathrm{Te})$ nuclei. In total, 17 events have been assigned to the $^{114}\mathrm{Ba}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{110}\mathrm{Xe}…
Fission Barrier of Superheavy Nuclei and Persistence of Shell Effects at High Spin: Cases ofNo254andTh220
2014
We report on the first measurement of the fission barrier height in a heavy shell-stabilized nucleus. The fission barrier height of No-254 is measured to be B-f = 6.0 +/- 0.5 MeV at spin 15 (h) over bar and, by extrapolation, B-f = 6.6 +/- 0.9 MeV at spin 0 (h) over bar. This information is deduced from the measured distribution of entry points in the excitation energy versus spin plane. The same measurement is performed for Th-220 and only a lower limit of the fission barrier height can be determined: B-f (I) > 8 MeV. Comparisons with theoretical fission barriers test theories that predict properties of superheavy elements.
The Generalized Model for the Description of Prompt Neutrons in the Low-energy Fission
2013
Abstract The generalized model for the description of neutron emission from the spontaneous and neutron-induced fission in the energy interval up to 20 MeV is developed. For accurate calculations of nucleon composition and excitation energy of the fissioning nucleus at the scission point, the time-dependent statistical model including the pre-equilibrium neutron emission and nuclear friction effects is used. For each member of the compound nucleus ensemble at the scission point, the primary fission-fragment characteristics such as kinetic and excitation energies and yields are calculated using the scission-point fission model with nuclear shell and pairing effects, and based on the multimod…
