Measurements ofB(B¯0→Λc+p¯)andB(B−→Λc+p¯π−)and studies ofΛc+π−resonances

We present an investigation of the decays B-0 -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over bar and B- -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over bar pi(-) based on 383 X 10(6)Y(4S) -> B (B) over bar decays recorded with the BABAR detector. We measure the branching fractions of these decays; their ratio is B(B- -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over bar pi(-))/B((B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over bar) = 15.4 +/- 1.8 +/- 0.3. The B- -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over bar pi(-) process exhibits an enhancement at the Lambda(+)(c)(p) over bar threshold and is a laboratory for searches for excited charm baryon states. We observe the resonant decays B- -> Sigma(c)(2455)(0)(p) over bar and B- -> Sigma(c)(2800)(0)(p) over bar but see no evidence for B- -> Si…
Evidence for the decayB±→K*±π0

We have measured the process B±→ (K*±→K±π0)π0 with 232×106 Υ(4S) →BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. From a signal yield of 89±26 events we obtain the branching fraction B(B±→K*±π0)=[6. 9±2.0(stat)±1.3(syst)]×10-6 with a statistical significance of 3.6 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties, and a charge asymmetry of 0.04±0.29(stat)±0.05(syst). © 2005 The American Physical Society.
Measurements of neutralBdecay branching fractions toKS0π+π−final states and the charge asymmetry ofB0→K*+π−

Branching fraction measurements using B-meson decays to Kspi+pi- are presented. These measurements were obtained by analyzing a data sample of 88.9 million Y(4S) --> BB decays collected with the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. Using a maximum likelihood fit, the following branching fraction results were obtained: Br(B0 -> K0pi+pi- = (43.7 +/- 3.8 +/- 3.4) * 10^-6, Br(B0 --> K{*+}pi-) = (12.9 +/- 2.4 +/- 1.4) * 10$^-6} and Br(B0 --> D-(--> Kspi-)pi+ = (42.7 +/- 2.1 +/- 2.2) * 10^{-6}. The CP violating char ge asymmetry A(K*pi} for the decay B0 --> $K{*+}pi-$ was measured to be A(K*pi} = 0.23 +/- $0.18^{+0.09}_{-0.06}$. For all these measurements the first error…
Electron-capture branch ofTc100and tests of nuclear wave functions for double-βdecays

We present a measurement of the electron-capture branch of $^{100}\mathrm{Tc}$. Our value, $B(\mathrm{EC})=(2.6\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.4)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$, implies that the $^{100}\mathrm{Mo}$ neutrino absorption cross section to the ground state of $^{100}\mathrm{Tc}$ is roughly 50% larger than previously thought. Disagreement between the experimental value and QRPA calculations relevant to double-$\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay matrix elements persists. We find agreement with previous measurements of the 539.5- and 590.8-keV $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray intensities.
Time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis ofB0→D∓K0π±decays

We present for the first time a measurement of the weak phase 2 beta+gamma obtained from a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B-0 ->(DK0)-K--/+pi(+/-) decays. Using a sample of approximately 347x10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage rings and assuming the ratio r of the b -> u and b -> c decay amplitudes to be 0.3, we obtain 2 beta+gamma=(83 +/- 53 +/- 20)degrees and the equivalent solution at +180 degrees. The magnitudes and phases for the resonances associated with the b -> c transitions are also extracted from the fit.
A Novel Method for the Measurement of Half-Lives and Decay Branching Ratios of Exotic Nuclei

A novel method for simultaneous measurement of masses, Q-values, isomer excitation energies, half-lives and decay branching ratios of exotic nuclei has been demonstrated. The method includes first use of a stopping cell as an ion trap, combining containment of precursors and decay-recoils for variable durations in a cryogenic stopping cell (CSC), and afterwards the identification and counting of them by a multiple-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MR-TOF-MS). Feasibility has been established by recording the decay and growth of $^{216}$Po and $^{212}$Pb (alpha decay) and of $^{119m2}$Sb (t$_{1/2}$ = 850$\pm$90 ms) and $^{119g}$Sb (isomer transition), obtaining half-lives and bran…
Electromagnetic transitions andαdecay of the223Panucleus

Actinides with $N\ensuremath{\sim}132$ present the best explored region of pear shape nuclei. Still almost no spectroscopic information is available for the heaviest elements, $Z=91--98,$ which are predicted to be octupole instable. The lack of data for the latter nuclei results from the high fission probability encountered in the heavy-ion reactions used to populate them. In order to overcome this handicap, an $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-decay tagging technique was used to identify $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays in ${}^{223}\mathrm{Pa}$ produced through the ${}^{208}\mathrm{Pb}{(}^{19}\mathrm{F},4n)$ reaction. Precision measurement of the half-life and the decay branches of 62Ga

In an experiment performed at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla, the beta-decay half-life of 62Ga has been studied with high precision using the IGISOL technique. A half-life of T1/2 = 116.09(17)ms was measured. Using beta-gamma coincidences, the gamma intensity of the 954keV transition and an upper limit of the beta-decay feeding of the 0+_2 state have been extracted. The present experimental results are compared to previous measurements and their impact on our understanding of the weak interaction is discussed.
β-decay of22O

A mass-separated 12 C 22 O molecular ion beam from the ISOLDE facility was used to study the decay of neutron-rich 22 O. The experimental results were compared with the results from an earlier experiment and predictions by shellmodel calculations using various effective interactions. The mechanism leading to the vanishing decay strength to the first 1 + level of the 22 F nucleus, predicted with the USD effective interaction but not supported by the experimental data, is analysed.
Beta decay of 40Sc to proton and alpha-particle unbound states in 40Ca

Delayed charged particle emission associated with the precursor nuclide 40Sc was studied by use of the He-jet technique. Altogether 40 proton groups (1.0 MeV < Ep < 3.7 MeV) and 21 α-particle groups (2.0 MeV < Eα < 4.6 MeV) were observed. Total proton and α-particle branching ratios were measured to be (4.4±0.7) × 10−3 and (0.17±0.05) × 10−3, respectively. Association of the delayed particle emitting levels with the levels observed in resonance reaction studies is discussed. The fact that the most prominent α-particle groups do not have a counterpart in resonance reaction data suggests collectivity or a cluster configuration for the emitting levels.
