β-decay studies of135–137Snusing selective resonance laser ionization techniques

2002

The decays of the very neutron rich Sn isotopes Sn135-137 were studied at CERN/ISOLDE using isotopic and isobaric selectivity achieved by the use of a resonance ionization laser ion source and mass spectroscopy, respectively. Neutron decay rates, gamma-ray singles, and gamma-gamma coincidence data were collected as a function of time. The half-life (T-1/2) and delayed neutron emission probability (P-n) values of 135 Sn were measured to be 530(20) ms and 21(3)%, respectively. For Sn-136, a T-1/2 of 250(30) ms was determined along with a P-n value of 30(5)%. For Sn-137, a T-1/2 of 190(60) ms and a P-n value of 58(15)% were deduced. Identification of low-energy transitions in Sb-135 was made p…

Microscopic description ofα+40Caquasimolecular resonances

2001

A multistep microscopic approach describing the dynamics of quasimolecular resonances is applied to the $\ensuremath{\alpha}{+}^{40}\mathrm{Ca}$ system. The lowest collective two-particle eigenmodes are used as building blocks of the four-particle states. The pair states are built on mean-field single-particle orbitals including also sharp resonances in continuum. The structure of ${}^{44}\mathrm{Ti}$ is analyzed and strong high-lying $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-like resonances are found in good agreement with the experimentally observed quasimolecular spectrum. The resonances turn out to be very collective and contain mostly proton-neutron pairs where the lowest proton single-particle resonance,…

Direct mass measurements of cadmium and palladium isotopes and their double-βtransitionQvalues

2012

The Q-value of the double-electron capture in Cd-108 has been determined to be (272.04 +/- 0.55) keV in a direct measurement with the double-Penning trap mass spectrometer TRIGA-TRAP. Based on this result a resonant enhancement of the decay rate of Cd-108 is excluded. We have confirmed the double-beta transition Q-values of Cd-106 and Pd-110 recently measured with the Penning-trap mass spectrometers SHIPTRAP and ISOLTRAP, respectively. Furthermore, the atomic masses of the involved nuclides Cd-106, Cd-108, Cd-110, Pd-106, Pd-108 and Pd-110 have been directly linked to the atomic mass standard.

New results on elements 111 and 112

2002

Experiments on the synthesis and identification of the nuclei 272111 and 277112 were performed in order to confirm previous results. Three additional decay chains were measured in the reaction 64Ni + 209Bi →273111*. The study revealed considerably improved data on the decay chain originating from 272111. One additional chain was measured in the reaction 70Zn + 208Pb →278112*. The decay properties of the chain starting at 277112 are in excellent agreement with the second chain of the first experiment down to 265Sg, where the new chain ends by a previously unknown spontaneous-fission branch. A re-analysis of all the data on elements 110, 111, and 112 measured at GSI since 1994 (a total of 34 …

Correlators of left charges and weak operators in finite volume chiral perturbation theory

2002

We compute the two-point correlator between left-handed flavour charges, and the three-point correlator between two left-handed charges and one strangeness violating \Delta I=3/2 weak operator, at next-to-leading order in finite volume SU(3)_L x SU(3)_R chiral perturbation theory, in the so-called epsilon-regime. Matching these results with the corresponding lattice measurements would in principle allow to extract the pion decay constant F, and the effective chiral theory parameter g_27, which determines the \Delta I = 3/2 amplitude of the weak decays K to \pi\pi as well as the kaon mixing parameter B_K in the chiral limit. We repeat the calculations in the replica formulation of quenched c…

Rare decay η→ππγγ in chiral perturbation theory

1996

We investigate the rare radiative {eta} decay modes {eta}{r_arrow}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{gamma}{gamma} and {eta}{r_arrow}{pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}{gamma}{gamma} within the framework of chiral perturbation theory at {ital O}({ital p}{sup 4}). We present photon spectra and partial decay rates for both processes as well as a Dalitz contour plot for the charged decay. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}

β-delayed fission of192,194At

2013

By using the recoil-fission correlation technique, the exotic process of beta-delayed fission ($\ensuremath{\beta}$DF) was unambiguously identified in the very neutron-deficient nuclei ${}^{192,194}$At in experiments at the velocity filter SHIP at Gesellschaft f\"ur Schwerionenforschung (GSI). The upper limits for the total kinetic energy release in fission of ${}^{192,194}$Po, being the daughter products of ${}^{192,194}$At after ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{+}/EC$ decay, were estimated. The possibility of an unusually high $\ensuremath{\beta}$DF probability for ${}^{192}$At is discussed.

Production of neutron rich isotopes in fission. A study for RNB facilities

2002

Abstract The theoretical model for calculations of the fission product yields in the light-particle induced fission is discussed. A comparison of the production cross sections in fission of 238 U by protons, thermal and fast neutrons, and photons is presented. The results of studies of the very asymmetric fission of 238 U by protons and neutron at the moderate energy are reported.
