ANOVA-MOP: ANOVA Decomposition for Multiobjective Optimization

2018

Real-world optimization problems may involve a number of computationally expensive functions with a large number of input variables. Metamodel-based optimization methods can reduce the computational costs of evaluating expensive functions, but this does not reduce the dimension of the search domain nor mitigate the curse of dimensionality effects. The dimension of the search domain can be reduced by functional anova decomposition involving Sobol' sensitivity indices. This approach allows one to rank decision variables according to their impact on the objective function values. On the basis of the sparsity of effects principle, typically only a small number of decision variables significantl…

Representing 2D Digital Objects

2000

The paper describes the combination a multi-views approach to represent connected components of 2D binary images. The approach is based on the Object Connectivity Graph (OCG), which is a sub-graph of the connectivity graph generated by the Discrete Cylindrical Algebraic Decomposition(DCAD) performed in the 2D discrete space. This construction allows us to find the number of connected components, to determine their connectivity degree, and to solve visibility problem. We show that the CAD construction, when performed on two orthogonal views, supply information to avoid ambiguities in the interpretation of each image component. The implementation of the algorithm is outlined and the computati…

Degradation of stone materials in the archaeological context of the Greek-Roman Theatre in Taormina (Sicily, Italy)

2010

In the present work results on the degradation phenomena of stone materials in the Ancient Theatre of Taormina, one of the most important Greek–Roman monuments of Sicily, are reported. Artificial stone materials in different conservation conditions were investigated. Samples of salt efflorescences from brick walls and degraded setting mortars were taken from the open gallery in “summa cavea”. The chemical, physical and structural characterization was performed by means of X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), both in situ and ex situ. Results showed that the deterioration of stone materials is due to the aggressive action of the enviro…

Relations among Gauge and Pettis integrals for cwk(X)-valued multifunctions

2019

The aim of this paper is to study relationships among "gauge integrals" (Henstock, Mc Shane, Birkhoff) and Pettis integral of multifunctions whose values are weakly compact and convex subsets of a general Banach space, not necessarily separable. For this purpose we prove the existence of variationally Henstock integrable selections for variationally Henstock integrable multifunctions. Using this and other known results concerning the existence of selections integrable in the same sense as the corresponding multifunctions, we obtain three decomposition theorems. As applications of such decompositions, we deduce characterizations of Henstock and ${\mathcal H}$ integrable multifunctions, toget…

Bioaccessibility and decomposition of cylindrospermopsin in vegetables matrices after the application of an in vitro digestion model.

2018

Research on the human exposure to Cylindrospermopsin (CYN) via consumption of contaminated food is of great interest for risk assessment purposes. The aim of this work is to evaluate for the first time the CYN bioaccessibility in contaminated vegetables (uncooked lettuce and spinach, and boiled spinach) after an in vitro digestion model, including the salivar, gastric and duodenal phases and, colonic fermentation under lactic acid bacteria. The results obtained showed that the digestion processes are able to diminish CYN levels, mainly in the colonic phase, especially in combination with the boiling treatment, decreasing CYN levels in a significant way. Moreover, the potential decomposition…

Ab initio thermodynamic study of (Ba,Sr)(Co,Fe)O3 perovskite solid solutions for fuel cell applications

2013

(Ba,Sr)(Co,Fe)O3 (BSCF) perovskite solid solutions are promising materials for solid oxide fuel cell cathodes and oxygen permeation membranes. Cathode performance strongly depends on the morphology of these materials remaining as a single phase or two-phase mixture. Combining ab initio calculations of the atomic and electronic structure of different supercells with thermodynamics of solid solutions, we have constructed and discussed phase diagrams of several important BSCF chemical compositions. It is demonstrated that in BSC cobaltite solid solution the spinodal decomposition may occur already at relatively low temperatures, while ferrite (BSF and SCF) solid solutions decompose at relative…

Metallatomsynthese, Eigenschaften und Struktur von μ 2 ‐(η 3 ,η 3 ‐Toluol)bis[(η 6 ‐toluol)eisen](Fe‐Fe)

1995

Metal Atom Synthesis, Properties, and Structure of μ2(η3,η3-Toluene)bis[(η6-toluene)iron](Fe-Fe) Metal atom cocondensation of iron atoms and toluene produces the mononuclear iron sandwich compound [(η6-toluene)(η4-toluene)Fe] 1. Complex 1 reacts with a palette of N-containing ligands such as primary, secondary, and tertiary amines as well as pyridine, pyrrolidine, and tmeda to form highly reactive instable intermediates. In the temperature range from -80 to -30°C, the proposed intermediates react with toluene to form the first homoleptic Fe/toluene complex μ2-(η3η3-toluene)-bis[(η6-toluene)iron](Fe-Fe) (3) regardless which N-containing ligand is used. Additionally, 3 is also formed when eth…

Partial wave decomposition of the N3LO equation of state

2014

By means of a partial wave decomposition, we separate their contributions to the equation of state of symmetric nuclear matter for the N3LO pseudo-potential. In particular, we show that although both the tensor and the spin-orbit terms do not contribute to the equation of state, they give a non-vanishing contribution to the separate (JLS) channels.

A decomposition approach for multidimensional knapsacks with family-split penalties

2022

The optimization of Multidimensional Knapsacks with Family-Split Penalties has been introduced in the literature as a variant of the more classical Multidimensional Knapsack and Multi-Knapsack problems. This problem deals with a set of items partitioned in families, and when a single item is picked to maximize the utility, then all items in its family must be picked. Items from the same family can be assigned to different knapsacks, and in this situation split penalties are paid. This problem arises in real applications in various fields. This paper proposes a new exact and fast algorithm based on a specific Combinatorial Benders Cuts scheme. An extensive experimental campaign computational…

Spectral decomposition of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular interactions in patients prone to postural syncope and healthy controls.

2022

We present a framework for the linear parametric analysis of pairwise interactions in bivariate time series in the time and frequency domains, which allows the evaluation of total, causal and instantaneous interactions and connects time- and frequency-domain measures. The framework is applied to physiological time series to investigate the cerebrovascular regulation from the variability of mean cerebral blood flow velocity (CBFV) and mean arterial pressure (MAP), and the cardiovascular regulation from the variability of heart period (HP) and systolic arterial pressure (SAP). We analyze time series acquired at rest and during the early and late phase of head-up tilt in subjects developing or…
