Cardiac pacing in premature infants and neonates: steroid eluting leads and automatic output adaptation

Abstract Background . Appropriate generator and lead selection as well as techniques of implantation are most important aspects of cardiac pacing in the extremely young patient. Here we report the clinical results using a new technique with automatic output adaptation based on evoked response in combination with steroid-eluting epicardial leads in small children. Methods . One neonate and 2 premature infants underwent permanent pacemaker implantation because of congenital high-degree atrioventricular block or postoperative complete heart block, respectively. Transient and Steady-State Radiation Response of Phosphosilicate Optical Fibers: Influence of H2 Loading

The radiation response of a phosphorus-doped multimode optical fiber is investigated under both transient (pulsed X-rays) and steady-state ( $\gamma $ - and X-rays) irradiations. The influence of a H2 preloading on the fiber radiation-induced attenuation (RIA) in the 300–2000-nm wavelength range has been characterized. To better understand the impact of this treatment, online behaviors of fiber samples containing different amounts of gas are compared from glass saturation (100%) to less than 1%. A Particular Focus on the Prevalence of α- and β-Thalassemia in Western Sicilian Population from Trapani Province in the COVID-19 Era

Thalassemia is a Mendelian inherited blood disease caused by α- and β-globin gene mutations, known as one of the major health problems of Mediterranean populations. Here, we examined the distribution of α- and β-globin gene defects in the Trapani province population. A total of 2,401 individuals from Trapani province were enrolled from January 2007 to December 2021, and routine methodologies were used for detecting the α- and β-globin genic variants. Radiācijas defektu pētījumi ar EPR metodi LiBaF3 kristālā

Izpētīts ar rentgenu istabas temperatūrā apstarotā L i B a F 3 kristālā radīta defekta EPR spektrs. EPR spektrs sastāv no apmēram 35 ekvidistantām līnijām. Defekts ir nestabils Jienas gaismā, bet tumsā sabrūk dažu stundu laikā. Šīs līnijas magnētiskā lauka orientācijā mralēli [111] kristāla asij atrodas vienādos attālumos (ar soli 0,9 mT) ar intensitāšu sadalījumu tuvu binomiālajam. A tooth whitening and chemical abrasive protocol for the treatment of developmental enamel defects

Abstract This clinical report describes a chemical abrasive protocol and whitening techniques to quantify modifications to the color and volume produced when eliminating white spots associated with developmental defects in enamel. Chemical (oxidative-erosive) abrasive treatment (whitening + 6.6% hydrochloric acid) resolves white spots up to a depth of 0.2 mm. At greater depths, infiltration with 16% hydrochloric acid followed by composite resin infiltration is recommended.
