The influence of a bag deformation on N-N-scattering

1984

We present a model calculation to study the influence of an intrinsic nucleon deformation on the elastic scattering of nucleons. The nucleons are visualized as deformed sources for the exchange of bosons. Both static changes in the derived OBEP and the admixtures of rotational states give rise to only small effects even for large bag deformation, in addition, the two contributions tend to cancel each other.

Probing the gateway to superheavy nuclei in cranked relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory

2003

The cranked relativistic Hartree+Bogoliubov theory has been applied for a systematic study of the nuclei around 254No, the heaviest nuclei for which detailed spectroscopic data are available. The deformation, rotational response, pairing correlations, quasi-particle and other properties of these nuclei have been studied with different relativistic mean field (RMF) parametrizations. For the first time, the quasi-particle spectra of odd deformed nuclei have been calculated in a fully self-consistent way within the framework of the RMF theory. The energies of the spherical subshells, from which active deformed states of these nuclei emerge, are described with an accuracy better than 0.5 MeV fo…

Saturation of deformation atN=60 in the Sr isotopes

1990

From the halflife oft 1/2=3.91 (16) ns for the 21 + state in100Sr a deformation parameter ofβ=0.40(1) has been derived. Within the given uncertainties, this value is equal to the recently determinedβ-parameters for98Sr and99Sr, indicating that in the Sr isotopes saturation of deformation is reached immediately at its onset well before neutron midshell. This behaviour is reflected by the “twin” character of98Sr and100Sr with identical features of their unperturbed ground-state rotational bands. These observations are discussed in terms of strong two-nucleon interactions.

Cranked relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory: Superdeformation in the $A\sim 190$ mass region

2000

A systematic investigation of the yrast superdeformed (SD) rotational bands in even-even nuclei of the $A\sim 190$ mass region has been performed within the framework of the cranked relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory. The particle-hole channel of this theory is treated fully relativistically, while a finite range two-body force of Gogny type is used in the particle-particle (pairing) channel. Using the well established parameter sets NL1 for the Lagrangian and D1S for the Gogny force, very good description of experimental data is obtained with no adjustable parameters.

The shape transition in the neutron-rich yttrium isotopes and isomers

2007

Abstract Laser spectroscopy has been used to study 86–90,92–102Y and isomeric states of 87–90,93,96,97,98Y. Nuclear charge radii differences, magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments have been obtained. Information on the nature of the Z ≈ 40 , N ≈ 60 sudden onset of deformation has been derived from all three parameters. It is seen that with increasing neutron number from the N = 50 shell closure that the nuclear deformation becomes increasingly oblate and increasingly soft. At N = 60 a transition to a strongly deformed rigid prolate shape occurs but prior to this, although the nuclear deformation is increasing with N, a proportionate increase in softness is also observed.

Smooth terminating bands inTe112: Particle-hole induced collectivity

2007

The Gammasphere spectrometer, in conjunction with the Microball charged-particle array, was used to investigate high-spin states in Te-112 via Ni-58(Ni-58, 4p gamma) reactions at 240 and 250 MeV. Several smooth terminating bands were established, and lifetime measurements were performed for the strongest one using the Doppler-shift attenuation method. Results obtained in the spin range 18-32h yield a transition quadrupole moment of 4.0 +/- 0.5eb, which corresponds to a quadrupole deformation epsilon(2)=0.26 +/- 0.03; this value is significantly larger than the ground-state deformation of tellurium isotopes. It was also possible to extract a transition quadrupole moment for the yrast band in…

Lifetimes of intruder states in 186Pb, 188Pb and 194Po

2008

Abstract Lifetimes of prolate intruder states in 186Pb and 188Pb and oblate intruder states in 194Po have been determined through recoil distance Doppler-shift lifetime measurements. Deformation parameters of | β 2 | = 0.29 ( 5 ) and | β 2 | = 0.17(3) have been extracted from experimental B ( E 2 ) values for the prolate and the oblate bands, respectively. The present study addresses the phenomenon of shape coexistence typical for the nuclei near Z = 82 and N = 104 , providing information on configuration mixing of intrinsic structures of the nuclei of interest. The results are compared with the available lifetime data and theoretical results for neutron-deficient Po, Pb, Hg and Pt nuclei. …

Comment on "Displacement along the Karakoram fault, NW Himalaya, estimated from LA-ICP-MS U Pb dating of offset geologic markers" published by Shifen…

2013

International audience; Field evidence for syn-deformation migmatization and crystallization along the Karakorum fault contradicts the study of Wang et al. (2012). The ages of such magmatic rocks provide minimum ages for the onset of deformation at similar to 23 Ma in North Ayilari and similar to 19 Ma in Tangtse. The onset of deformation at 12 Ma in the Ayilari range inferred by Wang et al. (2012) from a muscovite Ar/Ar age is a cooling age, thus only a minimum age. The similar to 60 Ma granodiorite bodies, the ophiolitic rocks and the south Kailash thrust that are correlated across the fault to provide a 52 +/- 2 km finite offset do not define reliable piercing points. Such observations a…
