Enabling Backoff and Eliminating Redundant Idle Period for Medium Access in LTE-U
2017
To address the burgeoning demand for mobile data, 3GPP is actively studying the capability of operating LTE in the unlicensed band, referred to as LTE-U. One of the main challenges of this approach is to maintain better coexistence between WiFi and LTE-U devices. To enable the coexistence, the listen before talk (LBT) principle has been adopted for LTE-U medium access with two flavors of mechanisms, i.e., load based equipment (LBE) and frame based equipment (FBE) access. In this paper, we consider the FBE mechanism and enhance its performance by introducing a backoff procedure for LTE devices. We investigate the original FBE mechanism defined by 3GPP and the enhanced FBE (E- FBE) mechanism fr…
Preamble Sampling MAC Protocol for Low Power Wireless Sensor Networks with IEEE 802.15.4 Transceivers
2006
In this paper a preamble sampling MAC protocol for low power wireless sensor networks is proposed. The article describes the implementation of the protocol using network nodes equipped with the Chipcon CC2420 802.15.4 transceiver. The power consumption of the transceiver has been measured and the MAC protocol has been adapted to the transceiver properties. The results show the trade-off between power consumption and transmission delay for this algorithm during the communication process.
Calculation of turbo- roundabouts with slip lanes
2013
A turbo roundabout is a particular type of roundabout where all lanes are bounded by traffic signs and by non-mountable curbs installed at entering and circulating lanes. Turbo roundabouts also have a very particular shape to accomplish the splitting of traffic streams and to prevent cars weaving through. These aspects make turbo-roundabouts more appropriate than roundabouts when a higher level of safety has to be guaranteed, particularly in presence of relevant pedestrian and two-wheels traffic volumes. Only in some traffic conditions, turbo roundabouts can offer higher capacities than conventional double-lanes roundabouts, so if more capacity must be guarantee a bypass lane can be added t…
Turbo-Roundabouts: a Model to Evaluate Capacity, Delays, Queues and Level of Service
2012
A turbo roundabout is a particular type of roundabout where entering and circulating lanes are bounded by traffic signs and by non-mountable curbs. The physical separation between lanes, both at entries and on the ring, helps to prevent side collisions crossing the roundabout. The main advantages of turbo roundabouts are: i) reduction in the number of potential conflict points; ii) lower speed of vehicles passing through the intersection; iii) safety conditions at the intersection due to lower risk of side-by-side accidents. These aspects make turbo-roundabouts more appropriate than roundabouts when a higher level of safety has to be guaranteed, particularly in presence of relevant pedestri…
EVALUATING CAPACITY AND EFFICIENCY OF TURBO-ROUNDABOUTS.
2009
Recent evolution of roundabout design has been directed towards the so-called turbo-roundabout, with the aim of ensuring better safety conditions than those afforded by traditional schemes. The few turbo-roundabout installations so far implemented have not allowed sufficient research in order to analyze operational conditions and capacity models validated by field observations. In any case the theoretical approach to the functional study of turbo-roundabouts undoubtedly involves more complex aspects compared to typical roundabouts because of the paths of entering streams (constrained to get onto physically separated lanes), the “turbine” configuration of the circulatory carriageway, as well…
MWP true time delay implemented in PbS-SU8 waveguides
2015
2012
Interventions for the removal of the causes of delay in university curriculum and the promotion of students’ logic-dialogical skills. In order to help the students of the course of degree in Sciences of the Primary Formation who are late in their university studies two types of intervention have been carried out: the testing of a counseling and a Philosophy for Chidren-based training activity. The counseling has aimed to encourage the comparison between the resources possessed by the students and the opportunities offered by the educational context in order to focus on possible interventions and support in-depth. Overall assessment of the counseling is good, as most of the students involved…
Absorption of oxybutynin from vaginal inserts: drug blood levels and the response of the rabbit bladder.
2000
Abstract Objectives. Oxybutynin has been used for treatment of urge urinary incontinence for more than 20 years. However, one of the major problems with its use is uncomfortable anticholinergic side effects that can lead to discontinuation of treatment. Alternative forms of drug administration may reduce side effects and thus improve patient compliance. Methods. A cylinder-shaped, curved silicone elastomer insert containing oxybutynin was anchored in the vagina of female rabbits. The inserts were designed to release oxybutynin at rates of 0.5, 1.0, and 5.0 mg/day, respectively. Blood drug and metabolite levels were monitored for 1 to 7 days and cystometry was carried out after 7 days of tre…
A sliding mode approach to H∞ synchronization of master–slave time-delay systems with Markovian jumping parameters and nonlinear uncertainties
2012
Author's version of an article published in the journal: Journal of the Franklin Institute. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jfranklin.2011.09.015 In this paper, a sliding-mode approach is proposed for exponential H∞ synchronization problem of a class of masterslave time-delay systems with both discrete and distributed time-delays, norm-bounded nonlinear uncertainties and Markovian switching parameters. Using an appropriate LyapunovKrasovskii functional, some delay-dependent sufficient conditions and a synchronization law, which include the masterslave parameters are established for designing a delay-dependent mode-dependent sliding mode exponential H∞ synch…
Adaptive H ∞ synchronization of master-slave systems with mixed time-varying delays and nonlinear perturbations: An LMI approach
2011
Published version of an article in the journal: International Journal of Automation and Computing. Also available from the publisher on SpringerLink: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11633-011-0595-z This paper proposes an adaptive synchronization problem for the master and slave structure of linear systems with nonlinear perturbations and mixed time-varying delays comprising different discrete and distributed time delays. Using an appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, some delay-dependent sufficient conditions and an adaptation law including the master-slave parameters are established for designing a delayed synchronization law in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). The time-varying…
