YK:n lapsen oikeuksia koskeva yleissopimus, joka velvoittaa viranomaiset ja lainsäätäjät ottamaan huomioon lapsen edun esisijaisuuden. Kaikissa sosiaalityön lapseen välittömästi, tai välillisesti, liittyvissä kysymyksissä harkinta kohdistuu tavalla, tai toisella aina lapsen etuun.
